Great service, good atmosphere, great food. The dark Suntory beer is a must to accompany your food!

Fantastic food and atmosphere. I’m often disappointed with Japanese restaurants in Sydney CBD or South of the bridge. Crows Nest seems to have a good concentration of great Japanese restaurants and I loved this place. The Sashimi and Tempura were fantastic as were the Cod and King Fish Head. They had a great choice of Sake too. I highly recommend this place. Lots of Japanese diners here too whilst we were eating. Do yourself a favour: if you’re staying in Sydney CBD and want to eat great Japanese food, take the bus or a 15min cab ride to eat here instead of the city.

One word: wow! Having been across the road to the more expensive, formal, and elegant«Waqu» a numer of times, we thought we’d give HaNa Ju-Rin a go, as it’s virtually always full every time we walk past. We certainly weren’t disappointed. With a more traditional Japanese menu, and an extremely welcoming head waiter keeping close guard over our every need, you really get the full, Japanese customer service experience, without it being overbearing. The food was exceptionally fresh and tasty. My tip for best on the menu would have to be the Wagyu steak Okinomiaki. Just amazing, Good value too at roughly $ 50 a head on our visit, with around 10 – 15 different dishes between the 5 of us, including sparkling water.

Sometimes I forget that Japanese is so much more than just sushi. Don’t get me wrong, I scoff sushi like the best of them, but come dinner time, I tend to search for a hot dinner instead of some delicate cold sashimi. Hence my wariness when a recent family diner was booked at HaNa Ju-Rin in Crows Nest. But I was oh so wrong. I’m sure it helped that my sister-in-law is an expert orderer, but I still managed to be dumbstruck by every dish. There was gyoza, there was udon, there was king fish salad. Then there were slightly more adventurous dishes like giblets, intestines and beef tongue. And finally there was the dish that rocked my world: okonomiyaki. Sweet mercy this fried pancake slice of savoury deliciousness canNOT be good for you, but you’ll definitely find me hoeing into one next time I have hangover. In fact, hangover or no, you’ll be sure find me hanging out in front of HaNa again soon.
