Very bad service. Went there for lunch last Sunday and had to beg for someone to take our order. Our mains came 3 hours later as they forgot about us even though everyone else who came later got theirs. When they did eventually come, we asked for some plates as my mum and sister were sharing and they advised they ran out of plates. Not responsive at all to feedback, in fact completely ignored. The food was ok but definitely not worth the wait. I would not recommend.

Excellent good and very authentic. They make amazing spring rolls tamarind chicken, duck pancakes, caramelised pork. Friendly service and amazing Vietnamese coffee. Bookings usually required in the weekends.

This is as authentic as Vietnamese gets in Australia. Fresh ingredients expertly prepared to deliver an amazing meal. The pancakes are unlike anything you’ve ever had, and the caramelized pork was oh so tender. How tender I hear asked from the back of the room? This pork is so tender it could write a chart topping love song in its sleep. Definitely check out VietKing, I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Stopped in for dinner alone while traveling with work. Ordered the Vietnamese Pancake(specialty) for entrée and a beef&chicken noodle dish for main. The pancake was nice and crispy but the filling and flavour left a bit to be desired. The main was ordinary and tasted pretty bland like something you’d expect from a food court. Beer was good though!

Just stuffed myself with awesome Vietnamese food and loved the friendly service. Tonight I ordered the salt and pepper calamari, rare beef salad, and beef bonfire. S&P calamari was on the money ball being deep fried with a thin crispy batter, instead of the doughy thick batter you find in other places, and it was accompanied with a sweet vinegar pepper sauce which gave it the edge. I’ve finally found a place that has nailed the authentic Vietnamese rare beef salad. Thin sliced beef cooked rare on top of a mound of beautifully dressed salad that had the perfect balance of saltiness, sweetness, and sourness. It came with a side of prawn chips which gave the salad the added crunch and texture. Absolutely yummy. Last dish of the night was the beef bonfire where they bring a hot plate with butter goodness to oil the plate before you cook the marinated thin slice beef. Now the fun part begins where you soak your rice paper and place it on your plate, adding the cooked beef, noodles, herbs, and salad to make your own roll. Roll them quick and you get to eat more. If you snooze, you lose. Love this place and the interactive eating made it more fun. Definitely will be back the next time I’m up in Newcastle to try the other Vietnamese dishes.

Basic food. Very typically greasy and a bit bland. Has more Chinese dishes than Viet.

The Phở is really tasty and the Vietnamese pancakes are yummy, crispy, tasty goodness. The comments about the service are probably fair enough, but it’s the only game in town for us Novacastrians.

My first meal Down Under: phở! On the plus side: it tasted and smelled great, and the broth was not so salty that you couldn’t drink it(unlike 90% of the fare in the SF Bay Area). On the minus side: I waited 15 minutes to have my order taken and another 30 to eat. The noodles are flat and not square. They wouldn’t serve the beef raw and let you cook it yourself. And their«spring rolls» are actually egg rolls.

The food is, 9 times out of 10, amazing and delicious. I highly recommend the soft-shell crab and the veggie spring rolls. Be warned, though, service can be very slow.

A good menu, convivial atmosphere and friendly staff. Vietnamese in Newcastle has always been somewhat less than authentic, and while Vietking supplements it’s menu with some generic Chinese-style dishes, there’s plenty on offer that is the real deal. This place offers something different on the Darby Street scene, so is well worth a visit. And the 333 beer is a nice touch that will take you straight back to streets of Saigon.
