Allpress have been here offering simple café fare for about a year now and yet the crowd is relatively small despite what is a bright an airy space, an incredibly good value menu and great coffee made with beans that are roasted in front of your very eyes(the warehouse can be spied through gigantic glass walls). Why? Because you will need to step away from the buzz of Smith Street and go deeper in to the industrial areas of Collingwood. I paid a visit with my favourite +1 for a weekday breakfast and we left satisfied. There’s dozens of tables inside and more again outside, and I pictured myself spending a couple of hours here lazing with newspapers or working on my laptop. The interior is Nordic-warehouse chic and felt rather calming. Breakfast was a mixed plate of goodies — boiled egg, goat cheese, tomato, pickles. Served with a plate of mixed Brasserie Bread it was nice to mix and math flavours. It actually defeated me and next time we would probably share(two platters between three would be ideal). The rest of the menu is simple(sandwiches at lunch), but sometimes that’s what you need, rather than tricked up hipster combos. Venture in to the back streets of Collingwood and you will be rewarded.

Nice outdoor area and friendly staff. As a roastery you’d expect great coffee and they deliver on this, although there is no chai on the menu which is disappointing for non-coffee drinkers. The breakfast menu is limited, but I really liked the eggs and soldiers I ordered.

I’ve been here twice now, the first time for a business meeting, the second time, today, to catch up with a girlfriend over lunch. Both times I’ve liked it … Visit one I sat indoors, found the menu offerings too limited(& a tad peculiar) & opted instead to order a cake from the counter display(scrumptious scone with jam, cream & fresh berries). I had an Allpress long black & left satisfied enough. The interior is very modern with Danish influences, while the outside, where I sat on my most recent visit, is more casual with communal wooden tables & a wee patch of grass. We ordered sandwiches off of the menu & split — hers a Corned Beef Russian & mine the Pork Belly with Apple Slaw. Definitely value for money, these $ 12 sangas would have easily fed 3 peeps, not just the two of us, with the Corned Beef our hands down favourite. Service was top notch too! Not sure why I’m not loving this café yet — think I’ll just need to return one more time to research further cos I definitely like it!
