Disappointing and it’s such a shame, it could be so much better. I heard some years ago they used to do the full factory tour so that’s what I was expecting, but unfortunately all they do now is a short info video, and besides that it’s just the«discount» chocolate shop to stock up on bargain chocolate — except most of it is not really a bargain, as another reviewer wrote, nothing that a good special at the supermarket doesn’t beat on a regular basis. Wouldn’t go again, and I don’t even encourage visiting relatives to go to save their disappointment too.

I’m quite sad to write a 2 star review for this place as I was so excited to go — but unfortunately 2 stars is the most accurate as I did feel fairly ‘meh’ about our visit. Several years ago you were able to do a tour of the factory — getting to see behind the scenes and see how some of the products are produced — but due to craziness in Health and Safety regulations this is no longer available. Unfortunately this means that the main drawcard(and in my opinion, the most exciting part) of the factory is gone. In place of the tour is an info session. These run every hour on the hour for about 30 mins in a small room just off the gift shop area. It featured a bit of a talk about how chocolate is made and a short video. If it wasn’t for our amazing and hilarious host Shirley it would have been a fairly lacklustre event. The info and video was interesting but nothing that you couldn’t find out in 5 mins with a quick Google and/or YouTube search. It cost $ 4 per adult to get in to the factory(as at Sept 2015) and when we entered we were given a little gift bag which had a couple of Freddo frogs and a bar of the ‘Marvellous Creations’ chocolate. This was the only sample offered throughout our visit. There is a small café on site, and we had a mocha there(I wanted a coffee but felt it would be kind of sacrilegious in a chocolate factory, so I compromised). It seemed a bit like the girl in the café didn’t really know what she was doing, but she was pleasant enough and the drinks were enjoyable. As for the shop, I was actually really disappointed. It did have a large range of products and a couple of interesting bulk buys(such as a 2kg bag of ‘naked’ Chomps I was tempted by), but there were none of the factory seconds or amazing discounts I had expected. The prices for individual bars and even some of the bulk deals were the same as when the supermarket has them on special(and that’s pretty often). I was expecting to spend a fair amount on gifts to bring home for family and friends but in the end all I walked away with was a $ 5.50 out of date box of Milk Tray. Even though it was probably not totally in their control, I feel like the tour not being run anymore took the ‘magic’ part of the factory away. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit but if you happen to be passing you could give it a go and see if you have a better experience than I did.

It’s an icon for chocolate lovers. The shop is a must see, with discounts and seconds. calling. me. It’s. smooth. creamy goodness. . I’ll only buy a small. box. I’d better test it. Only one. Maybe another…. Noom nom nom nom nom. … So good. Noom nom nom.. Just one more. Noom nom. … Oh yeah baby. Sorry. they were calling me. Come for the chock stay for the view. The factory tour was cancelled a few years back, so it’s a quick stop now.

The Cadbury factory was something I wanted to see when on this trip to Hobart, I was happy with what we did get to see but not access to the factory is provided, there is a session that is run every hour for around 45 minutes where a video is shown and a small demonstration is given but nothing too groundbreaking that you probably could find on Youtube. There is a souvenir shop in the visitor centre where there are all the usual items, kids clothing, adult clothing, hats, gym drink bottles(had a laugh at the idea of taking a Cadbury drink bottle to the gym) and more. There is also a factory store where you can get all your Cadbury goodies as well as associated brands at reasonable prices. There is also a café where you can get hot chocolate which I am told is good but didn’t have any on this visit.

Such a fun little bit of chocolate haven in Tasmania! I took the boat ride to the factory and then the tour of Cadbury! Especially fun for a total tourist like me that can’t get the really good Cadbury stuff back in the states. Like any chocolate factory they are samples along the way, you get to see most of the factory and the processes they do to create all the treats! At the end of the tour you have access to a store with all the Cadbury products which of course I spent far more there than I cared to admit so that I could sent treats home to the family! Enjoy!
