I suspect they try to do too much(covering northern and southern cuisines as well as Indo-Chinese), so in all fairness, maybe I didn’t try the genre that they’re particularly good at. If I went back, I might try one of the dosas from their two-page selection. But the palak paneer was ok, the baingan masala was lacking, and the wine was warm.

This was place was nice in that you could smell the Indian food the moment you walked in and the food was also good. It was a little, okay a lot, lame that a hawker was just allowed to walk in and start singing at people asking for money though.

Considering its on Lygon St, The atmosphere, décor and feel of the restaurant is below par. The food only seems to have one level of spiciness and they don’t have things like bombay potatoes, coconut rice or jasmine rice. The naan is also naaan good, i have had better. I was also expecting this to be the best indian in Melbourne, considering it is the highest rated restaurant on Unilocal,it isn’t…

O M F G Went here almost on a whim, after seeing it had a couple positive Unilocal reviews. It was one of the best Indian meals I’ve had, anywhere. It was so good I ordered a second set of dishes to take home for the next night. The Masala Uthappam was excellent. The naan was light and fluffy. The lamb chettinadu was fiery and rich. The aloo gobi was perfectly spiced. The chicken curry was very good, though not as exceptional as everything else. The service is great. It is extremely reasonable, in terms of price. There’s nothing that’s not awesome about this place.

Namaste is pretty much a standard Indian restaurant, but I’m a big fan because I really like the staff. They’re friendly, and unlike many restaurants these days, they’re happy! I didn’t realise how few waiters actually smile and welcome you until I went to Namaste and noticed what a difference it makes to the mood of the venue! The interior is cute, with the obligatory Indian paintings and superfluous pieces of fabric draped across the furniture. I’ve eaten here a few times now and have tried much of the menu, but I’ve got a few favourites. They’re the roti(more than a mere accompaniment!), prawn masala and the idly. Namaste’s idly it comes pretty close to the one I had at a bus stop in Chennai, which is in my all time top 5 food experiences — yum — and good southern Indian dishes are hard to find in Australia. Another good thing going for Namaste: They have ready-made curries at the front for quick and tasty take away. Seriously people, Namaste is delightful. Go. Eat. Smile.
