Lured by a voucher deal, we ventured to Mona Lisa on a quiet midweek for afternoon tea/dessert. We found the restaurant easily, with plenty of street parking on the bustle of Lygon st. As with the usual Lygon st italian restaurant, Mona Lisa offers Alfresco seating and warm inviting space inside. It’s a shame that this restaurant doesn’t stand out immediately, because what it offers once you are inside is quite special. What i am referring to is the hospitable and attentive service. The owner greets you warmly and the waiter is prompt and professional. we came in for dessert and ordered a serve of hand cut chips to share. The desserts were ordinary but the chips were beautiful, with rosemary and garlic. I think this is only a small taste of what the mains would be: tasty, attentive and delicious. I am disappointed I didn’t come hungry enough to try a full meal. The next time you’re on Lygon st, I suggest you ignore the squawking calls of the other restaurants and give Mona Lisa a go. Order chips with your mains and strike a convo with the chef Charlie. this is a restaurant that will surprise you with genuine food and warmth of this owner run establishment. After all, i would rather spend my hard earned dollar on a business that works hard and passionate about their food, rather than a profit hungry joint. If you beat me there to review their main meals, don’t forget to tip me on your favourite dish. P. s. don’t forget those chips and the garlic crisps that it comes with! Mmm yumm.
