Gave them a blanket with a stain on it one night and was told to pick it up the next morning. I must admit I was skeptical, after all when would they have time to send it off and get it back. Are these guys really that efficient? I thought to myself. For $ 25 I gave them the benefit of the doubt and came in the next morning. When I took it home it didn’t smell like it had even been cleaned, and the stain was still there. I confronted them about the stain and poor quality it was in, but was met with hostility and denial. My rebuttal was to never go there again and tell others not to either.

I don’t know what would make a dry cleaning business a 5 star so I gave Bentley the Butler a 3 star because they are ‘A-OK’. I’ve been going here for the past three years, not because it’s my favourite dry cleaners, but because it’s the only dry cleaners I’ve ever been to and I can’t seem to find one near me in Fitzroy. I’m sure there is one, but it was easy to go to Bentley the Butler on my way to and from school and work. Now that I no longer go to or work at the University of Melbourne, I should find a closer to dry cleaners, but old habits are hard to break, particularly when Bentley the Butler is good. Every time I drop off my clothes, I get it back when I need it and there aren’t any issues with the actual garments. It can be quite expensive — a trench coat and silk shirt cost me $ 38 one time, but I don’t know the prices of other places. Since I only go the dry cleaners once every two months, it doesn’t add up. I’m quite happy here and they’ve always given me good service.

I’ve used Bentley the Butler in the Lygon Street Shopping centre on countless occasions and have never had anything go wrong with my clothes or alterations. They give me a time when things will be ready and they’ve never not been on time. If I was to have a tiny gripe it would be that they are not the cheapest option available. However the fact I’ve been going for years buys some loyalty in my book and they do a decent job. The quickest entrance to find them is the one on Drummond Street close to the shoe repairers and the Woolies there.

I had a pretty frustrating experience here. I dropped off a suit 3 days before a job interview and was told it would be ready ‘by Friday’(which was the day of the interview). When I returned to pick it up at around lunchtime on Friday I was told it wouldn’t be available until after 5pm that day, which was completely useless given my interview was at 3pm. When I asked if there was any way it could be bought forward, or if I could travel to the site where they do the cleaning to collect it, the young girl behind the counter just gave me a withering look. Obviously I returned to pick it up the following week and the job was well done, but given the initial confusion and the subsequent poor service, I’m not likely to return in a hurry.
