Deli Talk is owned by some lovely Scottish folk who clearly miss the goodies they used to get back home, because their range of UK sweets, drinks, savouries and condiments is a rare joy to stumble across in Brisbane. I love a good Scottish accent and getting served by one in Cannon Hill was a bit of a surprise when it first happened! They also have a great selection of fresh sandwiches and baguettes, slices and tarts, and a huge range of pies(most in single-serving size but a few family-size ones are usually on offer, too). There’s also a fresh meat section in one corner of the deli counter. The coffee can be surprisingly good(definitely a better choice than the Gloria Jeans up the other end of the Plaza) and the staff are all attentive and friendly.

This is a small deli but packs goodness into every last cubic metre of space. They have an impressive selection of salamis and cheeses. To my delight, I found some traditional UK sweets I use to buy when I lived Manchester, mainly the Kendal mint cake — a high energy mint cake with a chocolate coating traditionally used by mountain climbers. You can also buy black pudding here. For those who don’t know what this is, it’s an extremely unhealthy pig’s blood sausage which is delicious with a poached egg on sourdough toast. The British love it and so do I. They also do cheap gourmet sandwiches or wraps with coffee — it’s good eating when you’re working out at Cannon Hill Plaza and you need a little cheer to get you through the rest of the week.

Deli Talk is in the Kmart Plaza at Cannon Hill. Very helpful staff and a young team. The service was fantastic. Great range of cakes, meats and ham. Their claim for having the«best ham in Brisbane» is a tall statement but they might be onto something because it was really juicy and full of flavour. Perfect place to stock up on Christmas hams and sweets. They have Di Bella coffee and the young girl who served me was nice enough to ground some for me to take home. It has to be freshest ground coffee you can get!
