Passing this place in the morning before everything is out feels a little like 2001 with all it’s shiny surfaces and stainless steel, but finding it before lunch sees a very different picture of bustling crowds, lights and of course, fish. Seafood Paradise is run by friendly people who serve quickly and never seem to stop smiling, despite being surrounded by the smell of fish all day. The sardines — fresh and glorious — are a personal favourite, while all manner of seafood goods will be found behind glass at the counter or frozen in cases along on wall.

Do you like fish sticks? Yes. Then you’re a gay fish. It’s the joke that rocked the world but not Kanye West(according to South Park) and I can tell you’re loving it right now too. Ok, all jokes aside, here we have a fishmonger that does its thing perfectly well. It’s always nice and clean and bright in here, and the fish is consistently fresh. It’s not cheap, but neither is it expensive, it’s just conveniently placed in a busy shopping area right outside a Coles supermarket. A couple of times I’ve been here to buy something specific, I think last time it was cockles, and they had run out. It meant having to re-plan the dinner menu, which turned out fine, but perhaps the lesson here is to get here earlier in the day if you’re after a particular fish wish.
