This informal café, is a great place for lunch and dinner! They have happy hour at 5.30−6.30pm with cheaper tap beers. The sushi is great and freshly made and the chicken Karage is excellent! The goyzoya stays with you a kitty too long with yucky burps throughout the day/night so avoid that if going on a date! But overall a cheap and cheery night out or great lunch option! Couldn’t recommend more highly! Go go go check it out for yourself! Enjoy!

Decent Japanese food and great gourmet sushi selection. Made fresh, served hot and great variety. Modest little place with limited seating and a $ 10 eftpos minimum… But good food. It has become our go-to for Japanese, although recent changes in management have brought smaller portions and a drop in quality. Still worth checking out.

High quality and reasonably priced sushi. I would get it more often if they didn’t have a 10 dollar EFTPOS minimum; I work in the area and sometimes just want a couple of hand rolls. I wish they did brown rice rolls also. Tsuru is the best ready made sushi shop I’ve encountered in Brisbane. Check it out.

Service can be a bit slow… because there is nearly always a queue of people waiting. The sushi is so good: freshest and best variety I’ve had in Oz. Lots of other offerings too. It pays to browse the menu. Not a bad idea to pick up a menu and phone your order through if you want to collect at apeak time and don’t feel like waiting. BUT it is worth the wait. Good coffee too. Worth coming across a few suburbs to this place.

Best sushi in Brisbane, and my favourite place for a quick affordable lunch. The focus here is on the fresh ingredients — no overwhelmingly sickly sweet rice or overpowering rice wine or sauces. In fact I reckon its the freshest yummiest sushi in Brisbane. They can get busy over lunch but takeaway sushi is quick to order and grab on the go even during the busy periods. This is a small shop and has a few dine-in tables but not huge so not great for big groups. They have a second store in Melbourne St Southbank that looks more suited to dine in, but for some reason the sushi I’ve got there a couple of times just wasn’t quite as good, not sure why, maybe a different chef running the kitchen? After 1pm you need to order sushi in lots of two, and they make them to order, but this means made-on-the-spot yumminess, and the kitchen is usually very quick. My sister is pregnant and usually can’t have sushi because of the risk of old rice but they were happy to guarantee a freshly-rolled sushi with freshly-cooked rice, she was so happy. They are open from mid-morning all the way through to 8 or 9pm so good for lunch, afternoon snack or dinner. They also do excellent sushi platters which I have ordered for a couple of different events and have been very much enjoyed by all the guests. All up, definitely worth a visit if you enjoy good sushi.

I had the chicken pancake and katsu chicken pieces. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

Four out of five paper cranes! I love this place. I live within walking distance from it and I am there all the time. It’s a small café near the Woolworths at Ashgrove. They have a few tables(inside and outside) and offer take-away. I have been going to Tsuru’s ever since it opened and I have never had a bad experience. They always use fresh ingredients, which is super important in good sushi. I often order the Sashimi Salad, made with fresh salmon. The salman is so fresh that I have occassionally gone in to order it and they have asked me if I mind waiting a little bit, as today’s order is being delivered as we spoke. Super fresh! But it’s the dressing that they put on this salad that makes it awesome. I can’t explain it, you need to experience it for yourself. They make sushi rolls in the morning but if you go in after about 1:30 they make the sushi fresh as you order it. Nice, eh? As well as the daily sushi rolls made in the mornings they also have a menu of speciality sushi, hot dishes and entrée’s. These hot dishes include Miso Soup, Katsu Curry, Noodle Soup; pretty much all items you’d expect to see at a sushi café. I think the sushi is their speciality(Hence the name of the place) but I do still enjoy the other items. I often order the Edamame, but I always think they need more salt. But then, I end up pouring half the container of salt on them, so I think that’s just me. I am not a coffee drinker myself but I have friends who live/work in the area who say that the coffee there is good as well. We were all particularly surprised as we didn’t expect this of a Sushi Café, but there you have it. The price is really reasonable: — $ 2.50 to $ 3.00 for the sushi roll — $ 6 to $ 8.50 for the speciality sushi — $ 10 for most of the hot dishes(One of them is $ 16 but it’s the only item) — $ 14 for the Sashmi Salad with Salmon. A lot of the items are gluten free(or gluten free available on request) and they also offer party trays. Overall, Tsuru is one of my favourite restaurants, and is my fallback choice of when I don’t know what to have for dinner. It is tastefully decorated inside; I particularly like the branch with paper cranes. If you go there, you’ll see it(Nudge, nudge). It’s a little nod to their name: «tsuru» means crane in Japanese(…according to Google).

I can’t believe no one has reviewed this place yet. My wife is obsessed with their food. Me, well for someone who isn’t a big sushi eater, I think its pretty tops too. Lucky for me they also serve meals like teriyaki chicken and chicken katsu curry. When you go there, don’t be surprised that the cabinet is empty, everything has already been sold. That shouldn’t matter anyway, cause the best meals from Tsuru are always served freshly made. Simply, the cooks are always under the pump, especially on weekends when the line up goes out the door. For those wanting to sit down for a feed I recommend getting a seat on one of the street tables as the inside has limited space and gets pretty crowded at a rush time. That’s why I would recommend ordering ahead and bring it home. As mentioned before, I’m not a big sushi fan. However I do make an exception for Tsuru. Sometimes if my wife moves away from the table for a minute, upon her return she’ll notice a roll missing and a sly smile across my face. If you’re more into your hot meals definitely get a serving of the steamed and salted soy beans and a serving of katsu curry, its one of the best I’ve tasted in Brisbane.
