The bento here is delicious! So good that I will probably regularly make the walk from my office at the Wharf and Adelaide all the way down to Broadway on the mall for this bento. What made it good? The sushi was tasty, the chicken teriyaki was delish, the katsu was fantastic and the salad wasn’t bad either. I’m struggling to find good Bento here in Brisbane and I think my wait might be over! Plus the staff are super polite and bring the food out even if you choose to sit in the food court. It’s cash only though. so keep that in mind!

Not feeling particularly restaurant-y, I wandered into Broadway on the Mall, a place I had been for years since my school days. I decided that since half of the food court was under renovation, and there were only a few shops open, I would try Sumo for some Japanese Bento. The Bento boxes start from $ 7.95 which is a bit of a bargain for the Chicken Karaage one, comes with chicken, rice and a nice fresh shredded cabbage like salad. I didn’t expect the world, but when it came out in a little under 5 minutes, it was fresh, it was hot and the salad had a dressing on it which made it taste out of this world. I stuffed all of it in my mouth in 2 mouthfuls and boy was it a great appetizer. There is a weird little appeal about this place as it has a little inside part where you can ‘eat in’ and it is little, like a sushi train, but you’re all facing the wall. Cute though… not much space, and the air-con was a little cold for me so I sat outside in the ‘take away’ section. They still brought my food out to me which was lovely. What a satisfying meal in the big city under the magical $ 10 mark, will definitely be back for more.

When I’m not feeling particularly hungry or I’m in a rush, there is one type of food I can always rely on– and that’s good sushi! When I’m in the city, I like going to Sumo Japanese Takeaway. I really enjoy eating at this spot for two main reasons; It’s cheap and it’s tasty. Sushi’s are generally $ 2.00, the Udon soups start from $ 6.00 and the Bento Box meals are under $ 8.00. With those prices, it certainly gathers a crowd too. The sushi’s are nice big fat ones. The sushi rice is cooked to perfection, it is packed with filling of your choice(my favourite is California roll) and the seaweed wrap is soft and not the cheap crumbly stuff. It’s soo good! The Bento Boxes are more than generous int their serves and is definitely high value for money. The customer service here is one of their best qualities. The staff are very friendly, happy and easy to deal with. It certainly eases the rush hour lunch time craziness. Not many people notice it, but on the right side of this takeaway spot, behind some Japanese curtains is an entrance to a small private dining area for patrons of Sumo Japanese. If it feels a little cluster-phobic in there, you can eat in the communal food court tables just in front. Great value for money Japanese takeaway with excellent customer service.
