Good coffee and the owner mark is very friendly. Open nice and early to get the morning caffeine hit. Food in display looked nice, will need to try it next time.

Friendly service, good chai and food. I am a Starbucks regular in the US but I have converted while in AUS even though there is a sbucks a block away. I prefer the friendly service and something different!

Had a pretty good coffee meeting here! It was pretty good and the people who worked there really knew their stuff :)

One of my favourite places in Brisbane CBD to get coffee beans. Very flavoursome decaf beans, with beautiful chocolate notes. Close to Central station — very convenient.

Here in Brisbane on vacation. Initially stopped in because I saw them advertising gluten free pastries. Coffee was great, this quickly became our go-to place each morning. Staff super friendly. They have a few gluten free breads(apple & berry, orange & almond), gluten free brownie, and another GF pecan caramel type bar.

Great coffee, great staff! The only drawback is that the shop is quite small, so it’s hard to get a seat a lot of the time. Other than that, no negatives at all. Grabbing a coffee and sitting in the park next door is a really pleasant way to take a break.

Mark and crew are the only coffee house in Brisbane who’ve gotten the coffee(regular triple shot mocha) right every time, month in, month out. The HCT toasties are bangin’, too!

Not many cafés open after Christmas and we were getting desperate! Had almost given up when we found this café. Excellent coffee. Amiable staff. Soothing atmosphere. We will definitely be going again.

What a ludicrously lovely environment. The staff here are extremely helpful and inquisitive, which lends the place a really welcoming air. I popped in for a quick coffee after arriving from Sydney, and it started my break off in a really positive way. Thanks gents — keep up the great work.* *Written after my first coffee in a couple of weeks. Please adjust comprehension accordingly; I may well still be rushing my tits off.

Wherever I live, I find my favourite café in the town and became a regular customer there. Here in Brisbane, my fav is Sugar ‘N Spice. The owner and one of the nice baristas remember my coffee, latte in a mug with no sugar! I like having a small talk with them, too. How many stamp cards did I collect? And how many free coffees did I get? Muffins(esp date and coconut one) and banana loaf are yum! As I have worked as a barista, I am picky about coffee(beans), cleanness and barista’s skill in frothing milk. This café has high quality of those. The location is convenient but buses in front of the shop are very noisy.

Yup, yup, and YUP. This coffee shop is awesome. And I’m not saying it only because their loyalty programme requires only 7 stamps to get free coffee! :) Their coffee is very flavourful and with a good punch. The staff is great and they are always nice to me and have a little chat. There is also quite nice selection of teas you can get there — loose leaf all of them and really tasty. Love the little tables around, loads of newspapers if you like to have a read while sipping your coffee/tea. Their food is also really tasty and fresh. Great place to stop by if you have some spare time while in the city!

This café does a lot of things right. It has a nice atmosphere and good service. It has a good selection of papers(including the Fin Review oh yeah!). However, the only thing holding it back from being a great café is the coffee. Its coffee is perfectly fine but just not specatular. If this coffee shop was located in an area with less competition it would definitely be my local, however given its proximity to 70bazillion other cafes within the CBD serving perfectly adequate coffee just isn’t enough. Summary: come for the atmosphere and read the paper and drink adequate coffee. Bonus: their reward card gives a free coffee after just 6 coffees. Not bad.

I am a fan of this little café, it produces some reasonably good coffee and has such a cute and cosy feel to it. The place as has an old english library/tea room type of look. Honestly, I am awful at describing cafes but trust me, it is very sweet. The tables and chairs are nice and comfy and because it is a bit further away from the busy shopping area, it is a pleasant spot to stop by and have pleasant conversations. The coffee itself is a little bitter which is sometimes what I am in the mood for but other times, it can be abrasive on the palette. But this is a café you would visit more for the atmosphere than a caffeine kick. Overall, Sugar N’ Spice is not a bad café at all. It is only a short walk away from Queen street shops and well worth the walk.

After ordering a long black with a shot of caramel with a ham and cheese toastie on corn bread, I took my seat at a tall, mahogany table and checked out my surrounds. If it hadn’t been for the blazing sunshine outside, I’d have sworn I was in some teeny NY coffee spot in a little side street somewhere, waiting for serendipity to strike. It’s dark, cosy and just isn’t really… Brisbane. Which is not a bad thing. I sat beside two newspaper-reading regulars who looked like they were there for the duration(it’s that kind of place — you really feel at home) and eyed up the shelves full of dinky little teapots, perculators and coffee for sale. Within 5 minutes my lunch and coffee had been served. And while I found the coffee to be a bit too bitter(I like mine strong, but I couldn’t stomach this), my toastie was truly melt-in-your-mouth scrumptious. This Sugar and Spice is(almost) all things nice.

This is a cute little café near Central station and reminds me of some of the coffee shops I’ve been to in Melbourne. It’s a great place to meet a friend for a chat and a cup of tea or coffee because the cosy, dark interior with its walls of teapots and teacups invites you to sit and linger and maybe even discuss something a little bit philosophical. If you’re not in the mood for deep and meaningful chats, then have a peek in the cake cabinet at their sweet little offerings. The petit fours of lemon curd tarts and mini cheesecakes go perfectly with a nice cup of English Breakfast(the best tea, am I right) or Earl Grey if you’re that way inclined. The staff are busy but friendly, and very efficient. The atmosphere is bustling and a little bit old fashioned which coupled with Sugar n’ Spice’s location in the old part of Central station makes you feel like you wouldn’t be surprised to see a WWII soldier sitting with a girl he met while she nursed him back to health in a makeshift army hospital when he was injured in France or something. Maybe I just watch too many movies, but Sugar n’ Spice has a very 1940s wartime era vibe, except with better coffee!

As you walk by Sugar and Spice there is something immediately appealing about it. The smells emanating from inside this cosy looking establishment seem to call you in and who am I to refuse such an invitation. The interior is very charming with various teapots, peculators and coffee mugs lining the rich, brown walls. On the wall four clocks indicate the time in New York, Tokyo, London and Brisbane — coffee time around the world. I stepped into Sugar and Spice on my way to work and it seemed to be peak hour in the relatively small space. The gentleman was workmanlike in his order taking, efficient but not exactly a conversationalist. The barista more than made up for his colleagues dry demeanour, however, as he joked with customers whilst effortlessly churning out order after order. Despite the amount of customers and his laid back approach my coffee was being handed to me within the minute. It was a damn tasty drop too, packing a little bit of a kick. All in all I was quite impressed with my maiden Sugar and Spice visit and will definitely add it to my rotation of morning coffee haunts.

If you have read some of my other reviews you would know by now that I am a coffee fan, that’s probably the understatement of the year — I love my coffee! Sugar and Spice is in my top 5 coffee shops in Brisbane not simply because it serves up some amazing bean but also because they have the whole customer service thing perfected. I come here almost every second day of the week because I know what I am going to get, consistency and service. Your regular coffee shop should remember who you are, what you like and how you like it and nothing should be too much trouble. When I first discovered the strip of shops on Adelaide street where S&S is located I had my work cut out for me, close by there are several decent cafés all offering up quality coffee but only one could offer the whole package. There is a similar café only a few doors down from S&S but lost out because putting the sugar in the cup for me whilst pouring the milk was too much trouble, their response to my(what I think reasonable) request was ‘there is sugar over there’. It’s the little things like this that can turn someone like me away or if offered make someone a regular and with so many small café style businesses going out of business every year, Sugar and Spice sets a great example of how it should be done.
