Disaster this mornings brekkie was. From the minute I sat down in their uncomfortable chairs I knew there was going to be a problem. The whole vibe of the place threw me off the minute I walked in but still decided to give it a try. I decided on an almond milk latte and the egg on a baguette special. My friend went up to place the order. he came back saying they hope they get my eggs right as he had to say it firmly OVEREASY!!! the lady running the cash behind the counter had NOCLUE what he was saying and when he explained eggs flipped and cooked on both sides she just nodded and said yaya. Bit rude if you ask me! When the coffee came it was way to hot and burnt. I wasn’t able to drink it until have my meal was completed… and we didn’t get our meals at the same our drinks! Sure enough when my meal came it was cooked sunny side up with extremely running eggs. I explained to the server this isn’t want I ordered and he looked at me in disgust. they did offer to take it back but wasn’t happy about it… when it came back the baguette was hard as a rock and I was only given a knife to eat this meal with. There was no easy way to eat it. I had to pick up this overstuffed open faced baguette and bite into it. the minute I did that the loose spinach(which I expected to be cooked) came flying out and I ended up wearing it. This whole experience was no pleasing for the start of my Sunday. Bondi Beach has plenty of café’s so there is no need for me to return

They have no EFTPOS. How is this even a thing in this day and age?! How could you not have EFTPOS? And you know what lovelies? There’s nowhere near by that you can get to an ATM. Just nowhere. Which is highly irritating because I wanted to eat. Thankfully my workmate shouted me so I raced up to the counter to order. The lassy behind the counter seemed to have issue with my order. I asked if they do deviations from the menu. She said yes. I asked her for a plain egg roll. Like a bacon & egg roll… minus the bacon. Thrice I had to repeat my order and thrice she put me down for a bacon and egg roll. Cue the owner stepping in and telling her to put it down as an egg roll like on the menu. Which they charged me $ 13 for an egg roll. That’s 2 fried eggs with some bbq sauce on a baguette. $ 13. Let that sink in for a minute there. And without coffee I couldn’t help but be exasperated while paying her over $ 10 for 2 eggs. On a roll. With BBQ sauce. That didn’t come out on a plate but a chopping board. No plates fail. The coffee here is so so. However the only redeaming feature about this place is that they do freshly squeezed juices which are great on a sunny arvo.

Food is good. Vibe is good. Service okay. But in 2013 you need cash. No eftpos no cards. Owner obviously doesn’t like paying his taxes.

No EFTPOS on a sunny Sunday morning?! If there was anywhere else with seating I would have walked… UNIMPRESSED.

Come to Sun Café if you want a casual but delicious breakfast while you soak in the rays(read: hangover brunch, because let’s face it, you woke up at 11am and you need an excuse to keep your sunglasses ON.) FOOD: I’ve never been disappointed in the quality of breakfast food. If you’re a sweet breakfast eater, then you must definitely get the blueberry pancakes. They are more dense than usual but are topped with a scoop of ice cream which just hits the spot. And it lasts longer than the syrup which your pancakes annoyingly soak up anyway… but don’t worry you still get both sugary toppings. If you’re a savory breakfast eater like me, then the omelettes and other egg dishes are also tasty and served with toast and butter. The coffee is average but served fairly quickly which is essential. Their hidden strong point is in their smoothies. They also own a joint juice bar and their Acai Berry Shakes are phenomenal. AMBIANCE: Can’t beat the outdoor seating, but don’t expect anything fancy. Common place for friends to catch up, or families coming with their dog. SERVICE: Service is terrible. But I give them some credit in recognizing that and have eliminated the ‘ordering with your waitress at the table’ and have customers come straight to the register. You don’t have to be ignored any longer, plus people don’t dine and ditch as a result of the crappy service. Win-win for everyone.

Although to some extent I have to agree with Paul J. and Joel Amigo, there is something really romantic about Sun Café … eons away from the pretentious tapas and wine bars a few blocks down. This place is perfect around dusk. You’re all sun-kissed and looking for something scrumptious to go with a bottle of white wine. You don’t want to hear another insipid conversation; you just want to sit down and have a lovely time with your soul mate or whoever. Look no further.

I had food for the first time at Sun Café this past weekend. On their lunch menu, what I noticed in particular was wide selection of different baguettes. For around $ 13, these sandwiches are served with a variety of fillings. I was between the breakfast baguette with eggs and one with grilled chicken, lettuce, sun-dried tomatoes, and a zesty aioli. I chose the latter. It was just okay. The baguette was fluffy and soft(I usually like crusty), the grilled chicken was well seasoned, but there was a bit too much aioli inside. I think $ 13 is much too high a price for a sandwich that can be whipped up in no time.

This small and quaint café in Bondi offers two things on a regular basis, great food and coffee, and bad service. At least they’re consistent says the optimist within. Although the coffee is good, it’s definitely not the best, made with speed and haste, consistently served by the owner, who may or may not have ever learnt how to use a professional coffee machine. I like my coffee’s strong, and unfortunately, milk got the better of my strong latte. I’ll stick to a macchiato, which looks pretty good, hopefully it won’t be burnt next time. This café is popular with the locals as it sits on a busy corner in North Bondi amongst the residents. The outdoor seating flooded with natural light, so much so that they should provide sand, and sexy beach babes. Oh wait, there’s ample of that in Bondi already.
