What cool juice bar at the beach closes at 5pm when sunset is not till 8pm well it’s Bondi beach they have to get their surf on, I got in at 4:15pm and ordered a zinger, Apple, watermelon, lemon and ginger, a quick pick me up, was not cold I guess that’s a good thing because it means not watered down. Try it out and let’s see what you think!

I knew I should’ve bought some food up at the lights. I fall for it every time, thinking I’ll get away with running up and down the beach, swimming in the surf and not being hungry before we get back to the shops where the buses pick us up. I’ve never heard of a fruit salad(i.e. chopped fruits in a tiny plastic cup) that should cost any more than $ 5. But apparently so, because they do sell them at one of the only healthy food kiosks — Sejuiced at Bondi beach. It’s quite well known for their healthy breakfast options — their yoghurt and muesli combo is a sure winner(it’s so small though for $ 4.90). I bought a delicious mixed berry muffin because I was absolutely starving and it was a perfect pick me up, even though it was a little dry. It’s a good place for a quick snack but they charge a lot for such small portions. But I guess they can since they can get a whole bunch of people on the beach with the munchies — so they definitely take advantage of that with their food prices.

This is all location, location, location. Right on Bondi Beach Sejuiced is a good little juice bar with prices as spectacular as the views. Paying $ 5.20 for small juice is a stretch but given it means you can stay longer at the beach it’s worth it. Sejuiced is fast with the juicer and offers the good ol’ loyalty card scheme buy 9 get your 10th juice free. Offering all the usual juice variations, there’s also yoghurts & granola, bagels with a variety of fillings, baguettes and more.

When you’re lying in the sun, psyching yourself up to get in the water for the second time, a little sunburnt and perhaps a little sunstricken, there are two things that you want: a cold drink and an icy pole. Well friends, Sejuiced have filled this market and have nailed it, ‘sejuicing’ the hell out of Bondi’s dehydrated masses with cold drinks and Calippos delivered to you. All you have to do is wait for the orange-visored Sejuiced staff member to make their way to you, or listen our for their echo of «Calippo! Calippo!» and call them over. Within seconds, you have your Nutrient Water/Juice/Calippo/Water, all without having left the comfort of your towel. They have a little take away shop too, but that’s not that important. It’s nice and it’s juice and blah blah blah. Ice creams and cold drinks sold by kids in bright orange visors. Genius.

I’d had some great juices in the past, but a recent après-beach pit stop to Sejuiced was a little disappointing. The ‘peaches ‘n’ cream’ smoothie was tempting, made with fresh fruit, yoghurt and I requested soy milk instead of regular. What I got was expensive and sickly sweet, with a very faint flavour of peaces and a really liquidy consistency that was more like a juice. Make sure you specify what size smoothie or juice you are after — I failed to do so and ended up paying some $ 7 for a jumbo size I couldn’t finish. This hole in the wall café inside the Bondi Pavillion does also offer good takeaway brekkie options like Greek style yoghurt pots with granola and rhubarb compote, plus bacon and eggs rolls with Swiss cheese and spinach, which might tempt me enough to give them another go.

Sejuiced takes pride in their product. This is primarily a juice bar but it’s so much more than that — the staff(it often looks like there are about 50 of them buzzing around the tiny preparation area) are friendly and the coffee is primo. This place has been perched on the edge of Bondi Beach for around 10 years now and it’s a pleasant place to enjoy the sun and stare out to sea. They have a menu of juices and smoothies to select from or will quite happily let you invent your own, no matter how weird and revolting it sounds(I heard a guy ask for beetroot, pineapple, strawberry, lemon and ginger the other day. I’ll never forget the horror the sound of that combination inflicted on me). Their pre-designed smoothies are a more than safe bet so I usually stick with the East Coast and leave the creativity to other people. Food is really good here too, except they don’t have anything vegetarian. The smoked salmon bagels are divine for veg-aquarians but if you’re not then it’s vegemite toast for you my friend! They take their coffee so seriously you can choose between the single-origin or their regular blend but either way it’s faultless.
