Ok, after two and a half years as a local, I have to update this review. Doctor Coffee at Salamanca is too slow, too hot and too disinterested to get my cash, and now Parklane Espresso exists just around the corner I’ve got a way better coffee option down this neck of the woods.

Good coffee. Bonsoy used. Very simple but ok pre made breakfast options. The muesli was nice. Good location on the street.

This remains one of my favourite Hobart coffee spots. As others have mentioned, the service can be slow, but the results are more than worth the wait. If you’re a chocoholic and coffee nut like myself, try the couverture mocha — it kills all other mochas dead. Not a great place to sit and dine/drink, despite the free wifi and iPads available to borrow. The shop is a bit narrow and can seem cramped; it’s not one of those ‘cosy’ cafes you don’t want to leave. But for takeaway coffees this is the pick of the Salamanca litter.

My bf ordered a brekky panini and coffee. The coffee took quite a while to arrive, but the barista apologised, and admitted he dropped the first one on the way out! The panini was great, a little saucy. The coffee looked perfecto. Good bang for your buck.

Doctor Coffee do take their coffee seriously, and it shows. Definitely some of the best available in Hobart! The selection of food is pretty small — muffins, brownies, paninis, but they are all exceptionally tasty. Be warned; the coffee is good, but it also takes a while to make. If you have the time I definitely recommend dropping by here, but perhaps pass on by if you are in a particular rush.
