Bassendean Shopping Village: A warm and friendly shopping centre. Good food served at the Village Café, at a good price. Bus service only one bus every hour, but the train station is not far away. Other shops and services all along Old Perth Rd, to Bassendean Train Station. Should be called Bassendean Shopping Centre(as it is a proper shopping centre with a major retailer, Woolworths and Coles), and the Bassendean Shopping Centre nearby, Bassendean Village(as it is not a proper shopping centre, just a collection of small shops together). 20 shops/services counted, with a lot more planned in the future, with a 20 million dollar renovation being done. Was happy to see that this shopping centre had a wide path(with no poles in the way), from the footpath to the shopping centre. Much safer than most shopping centres, where you normally have to walk through a carpark. A good shopping centre for sure. My fiancé and I will go back in about a years time, to check it out again.

Bassendean is one of the only suburbs I’ve known(anywhere in Aus) to have a shopping village and a shopping centre less than 400metres away from each other. I also question how they ended up with the corresponding names as to me– village has a smaller, more medieval– less developed connotation opposed to the commercially fuelled«centre,» alas, this is not the case with the Shopping village. This village is the major shopping centre(if you will) in Bassendean. Directly opposite the Recreation Reserve, the generously sized car park indicates how popular this complex is.(I have never seen it completely full, but during peak times– like mid morning shopping time it certainly gets busy.) With several banks, gift shops, florist, bakeries, retails stores, cafes, a video store and major grocery giants– this is a bone fide shopping complex. This Shopping«village» is BIGGER than Ben Who?!
