It must be hard to be a tea shop, what with the prevalent popularity of T2 and the countless Chinese tea shops in China town. Lucky for Elmstock Tea, neither of these are within throwing distance of Darling St. An American Company, the tiny tea shop in Balmain is Elmstock’s main retailer in NSW. Its selection of teas include black, green, white, rooibos, oolong and herbal teas, which line the opposite walls of the shop like a modern apothecary. They also sell a nice selection of teapots and associated accessories, including my favourite Zero Japan and Beachhouse teapots. They sell gift packs too, but these are a little drab for my liking. The shop isn’t terribly exciting, but these guys know their tea and can tell you how long each individual leaf should be brewed to reach it’s optimum potential.
