Atmosphere/comfort = 1 star Coffee = 1 star Food = 4 star Service = 4 star Not great for solo diners unless maybe u get a large table. There r 2 small tables for 2 adjacent to the kitchen that r really uncomfortable, sit there long enough and u get a nice layer of grease from the kitchen covering u. It’s also really loud whereever you sit thanks to hard furnishings. My coffee was also burnt but my almond loaf was delicious! Food coming from the kitchen smelt and looked great too.

Atmosphere, service, presentation, everything was fantastic. Even the portion sizes… too often ‘Big Brekky’ is aussie code for ‘loljk Heres a piece of 20 $ toast.’ but not here. The portion size exceeded my expectations, my desires, and even my sense of propriety. It was friggin huge. Our server was amazing, punctual, and made great suggestions. The coffee was also ridiculously good. Smooth, not bitter, brilliant liquid sunshine. If you don’t eat here, you are doing yourself a disservice.

Driving past this place daily, you get an understanding of just how popular it is. Line ups of eager diners await fresh and hearty meals, and superb coffee. We chose a Sunday lunch and there was no wait for table. I was excited at the all-day breakfast options. Service was a little slow, but it gave us time to admire the hipster cool décor and delicious sounding specials on the chalk board. Overall, a lovely experience.

Food was yummy, coffee decent. Book if you want to sit inside and away from the traffic noise, which was inconsistently loud on a Sunday morning. Friendly service. Will return — and will book first!

Love the interior, reminds me a lot of Melbourne décor at present. A very highly polished hipster joint. The typeface on the menu is quite hard to read, perfect for your typical ASIO cryptographer. I had the eggs Benedict, the eggs were cooked well and the bacon was really nice but the sauce was a bit off. Not sure if the chef needs to reevaluate what a hollandaise should taste like but this is the second one I’ve had here that’s tasted this way, a bit too vinegary and not creamy enough. Maybe I want too much though… However I did want to try to more than once before I wrote this review for that very reason. The coffee was very nice, smooth and creamy. Highly recommended. I will come here again but maybe I’ll have to branch out and have something other than a Benedict.

I am not going to write much as think I often waffle on too much in my reviews and at the end of the day all you want to know about is «Is this place worth going to?». Simple answer — YES! I highly recommend this pad for Breakfast. I recently had zucchini and mint fritters, halloumi with poached eggs and chorizo and died and went to breakfast heaven. Was the perfect start to my day.

Located in the heart of Albion Village, is the ever popular eating & drinking hot spot Artie & Mai. We were so happy to finally drop in, & try some of their beautiful food. This café/bar is in a heritage listed buliding, which feels rustic & homely inside, with several communal tables, lending itself to social dining. Perfect for friendly catch-ups. With so many delicious options to choose from, it was almost hard to decide. We ended up ordering: 1. The Zucchini & mint fritters with haloumi, chorizo, romasco & poached egg.($ 16), extra avocado($ 4). 2. The Artie & Mai Chicken burger with dukkah, tomato, lettuce, paprika aioli w/rustic chips($ 16). Both dishes were spot on! So delicious. We also ordered some coffee(they serve Belaroma coffee) which was perfect! The right mix of strength & subtlety. The service was a delight;friendly & attentive. Artie & Mai have an all day menu till 3pm, after which they have an evening menu consisting of small plates, large plates & pizzas;all about encouraging shared dining. For Australian beer lovers, you will be happy to know that they only stock Australian Craft beers. Be sure to check them out, if you haven’t already. **They open from 7am till 3pm daily. Closed on New Years & resuming normal trading hours from the 2nd of January 2015**

I’m happy to of discovered such a place to escape to. Artie & Mai, is a rarity. walking through those doors and sitting down, just sitting in the atmosphere takes you to a new place. The exposed brick, the rustic look and feel, and the lovely personality of the staff and chefs(this is something lacking in a lot of Restuarants in Brisbane) truly complete my experience. My first trip here was an early dinner(around 5pm), and I had the place to myself :). I ordered the Beef Ribs for a small main and the Cereal milk panna cotta for dessert. «Wow» was the only word that I could say while consuming this meal. Simply put, I was in food heaven. Marked this place on my Favorites List, and I made a mental note to come for breakfast first thing the next day ;) Breakfast: I awoke early and caught the train to arrive at Artie & Mai first thing to try and avoid any rush of customers, since I know how hectic a Saturday Morning breakfast can get. I arrived just after 7am, and the misty glow of heaven this place has still hadn’t worn off. The staff, although different, still greeted me with smiles and kind gestures. And the chefs, still relaxed and happy. I’m not sure what it was, but this place just made people happy and I loved it. I ordered a French Toast and a Banana Smoothie, and what I received was something not short of what I would believe a foodgasm would be. I’m not sure if it is the combination of the honey cinnamon. or just the unique combinations on the French Toast. But I had to force myself not to order another :). And the Banana Smoothie, ok, every single ingredient just explodes and you take each sip. I really do like how its all natural flavors. But, I must confess. next time I am going to give the Nutella Shake a try, mainly because of the desciption in the menu(refer to picture ;)). Seriously, give Artie & Mai a try. Even if you’re a solo foodie(like myself), you truly will not regret it :)

I recently visited Artie & Mai after recovering from Stockholm from closing down. I was not disappointed! My first visit was with my mum for brunch. Our server was this adorable British girl, who seated us promptly and took our coffee orders. I was a little hesitant as I didn’t recognise the beans(Belaroma), but was pleasantly surprised. The décor hasn’t changed much– but notably, they have high tables at the window seats which I love and can’t seem to remember them being there before. I ordered the french toast with goats cheese and prosciutto, which can be too sweet, however the balance of savoury with a little sweetness, was perfect in this dish. My mum loved her fritatta too! My second visit was for a late night snack and a glass of wine with a friend. The ambiance was great. Not too busy. We split a bunch of the small plates with our choices guided by our waitress. I was pleased with everything we ordered– including the wine choices. However the pork belly bites were a little over cooked. We split the mars bar cheese cake– I wasn’t overly enamoured with it… but enjoyed it nonetheless. Most definitely returning!

I was really looking forward to eating here ever since it opened but I definitely think they can make some improvements. First off, if you want it have an intimate dinner date, then this place is not the place to go. If you are going with a group of people, then it is perfect. Staff are reasonably friendly but did not make any recommendations — just told us what the specials were. Also, the only drinks menu they had all contained alcohol. I was able to speak to the owner on the night and he advised me that they had only been opened for a few months and are taking all feedback from customers. I told him it is probably a good idea to let people know what non-alcoholic beverages they have and to have a mocktail special as well as a cocktail special. The food was really good. I had the lamb shank which just fell off the bone. It was a little disappointing that it was not hot enough for me. The food menu is definitely catering for larger groups and share plates. Unfortunately not my thing. The parking in that area is pretty terrible but you can usually find something about a 10 minute walk away. Would i go there again? Yes — but with a group, not for a nice night out with husband!

Have eaten here twice in a week, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Cute place with a great vibe. Had the muesli for breakfast which was very satisfying. The poached pear, crispy apple, roast walnut and pork salad was the order for lunch and it did not disappoint. Beautiful salad! Will definitely be back to try their tapas and pizza selection. Highly recommend this café with friendly and helpful staff. Very coeliac friendly too, which is always appreciated!

You might be mistaken for thinking the fact that I find myself with little to say about Artie & Mai is the result of a bad experience. Quite the opposite. Our lunch at Artie & Mai was such a seamless experience I find myself simply content. We were seated promptly(there were maybe a handful of other couples dining), our drink orders taken while we were left to peruse the menu. We ordered a meat platter and pea & ricotta bruschetta which arrived soon after our order. We left satisfied with our meals. We were checked on regularly by the waitress for anything else we may want, but not too often. The space is quiet and beautiful with its exposed brick but parking can be tricky!
