I’ve eaten here numerous times and always found the food to be good but the service to be very very slow. Today was even worse as I didn’t even get to eat. We were seated upon arrival without being given a menu. 20 minutes later a waiter came with the menus and apologised that we hadn’t been attended to yet. We waiting again for another 15 minutes while everyone waiting for takeaway were served and we hadn’t even been asked for drink or starter orders. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else as 35 minutes later with no drink and only an hour for lunch at work just was not acceptable(and I’m very reasonable and patient) it wasn’t even particularly busy… Don’t know how they would manage if they had a lot of customers!

Worst Viet ever. Pretty bad food n spotted a couple flies in my noodle soup. Feel overly thirsty after eating= full of msg. Service was just OK. Wouldn’t recommend anyone to come back here again consider that there is a very good Viet just 5mins away down gouge street. It is basically overpriced, not tasty, full of msg and couple flies in the soup. Feel free to try out haha

Formerly ‘Sugar Cane’(one of Adelaide BEST Vietnamese restaurants at the time), Viet Charm is sort of stuck down the far end of King William Street, opposite the Optus Building on South Terrace. It’s not a problem getting there though as the tram stops a hundred or so metres away.(Or of course you could add to your carbon footprint and drive!) I was interested to see just how much the venue had altered since the name and staff change, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the interior had been kept the same, and the formerly wonderfully friendly staff had been replaced by more of the same! The menu however was a different matter. Sugar Cane had a wonderfully comprehensive menu covering all manner of Vietnamese cuisine, and whilst Viet Charm’s menu was good — it didn’t compare. For one, I was upset to see that their infamous Peking Duck was no longer available — quite simply the best in Adelaide at the time. When I asked why it was no longer there, I was told that«they were thinking about adding it». Hmmm — not really the answer I hoped for. Why«think’ about adding it and not just doing it? Anyway, we ordered starters and main at the same time — sate chicken skewers to begin with. They were reasonably delicious, but the chicken was quite tough and not as fresh as it could have been. The other starter was Salt and Pepper Squid which was yum! For our main course we followed that with a delicious Crispy Mint Chicken which was very unique(the mint leaves were deep fried — yum!) and also Tea Smoked Duck — also totally delicious. All this was complimented with fluffy special rice and a bottle of local Adelaide Hills Cab Sav! The bill came to $ 131 for 2 of us which I found a little expensive for the amount of food we ate. But the service was excellent, the atmosphere was very acceptable and the place was surprisingly busy for a Friday night. I definitely recommend that you pay Viet Charm a visit and make up your own mind. I’ll be going back to firstly see if they’ve added Peking Duck to the menu, but also to try some of their other dishes to get a complete idea of the different tastes.
