8÷01÷2012 I was desperate for some Indian food on a Sunday afternoon. Haven’t found one on the Rundle strip that’s open on a weekend afternoon, yet. So of course, I headed straight to the David Jones Food Court! While this initially sounds exciting, you have to lower all high expectations… because this place ain’t all that great. At least Roshans cut the time of my hunt for Indian food. I have been here so many times, going all the way back to senior high school when I was just 17, so I can definitely say that my taste has significantly changed since then. I must say — today I wasn’t very impressed. Roshans does serve other Asian food, as well as traditional Indian food, but something has definitely changed about their ‘Butter Chicken’, which used to be my lunchtime favourite. Today, it tasted more like a really badly done Satay chicken, rather than that buttery taste I used to love. I was literally spitting out parts back onto my plate, it was that bad. What’s happened here? Did they change their chef or ingredients for the worse? Did some customers complain about the awesome taste, that they had to water it down? I dunno, but I was so disappointed today. Luckily i had their teriyaki chicken as a second choice, to rescue me from my hunger pangs. Maybe next time it’s actually half decent. For now, I am not content after this bad Indian food experience and now I have to find another place I can go to enjoy better Indian food that my stomach craves for! Overall: If you got nowhere else to go for lunch — this is rock bottom of my list of lunch spots! Why oh why, you used to be so good. I would like an explanation and hope for future improvement.

General disdain for food courts aside(THEYHAVENOSOULS!), I admit I have been to Roshan’s more than once and will do so again. Yes that’s a threat. I used to work around the corner and in my blink-and-you’ll-miss-it lunch breaks I would visit Roshan’s periodically, and was always impressed with the fast/fresh/cheap combo which let’s face it ALL food court foods should be. Get in, get food, get the hell out. The menu is primarily South East Asian in style, and you can grab one dish and noodle combo for under a $ 10. I can’t speak for the curries(not my bag) but the good old beef and black bean was always a winner. Hearty quick food on a budget(and if you can’t get yourself to China Town).

Do you have the tendency to face Mecca five times a day? Then you would appreciate Roshan’s. It is one of the only Halal friendly food outlets in the Mall. I like a good curry, in turn I like Roshan’s. Which if you didn’t gather, makes a good curry. I don’t remember the names of what I have tried, it is not because of lack of sensitivity, but more so because I sadly have not eaten there for some time. It makes me sad and I shall now endeavour to eat there again. It’s the first to your left when entering the food court from the mall entrance.
