Not my favorite style of dumplings but they are good at what they do I guess. Fried ones were a bit dry inside, and with no liquor license I couldn’t wash them down with a beer or wine. The staff are really friendly and they make the dumplings fresh in front of you so you know they’re not pre made and frozen. Not too keen on their sauce either; I asked for soy sauce… How embarrassing for my dinner companions

I walked past this place a number of times when I was working out of the Adelaide office, and I always noticed the large number of ‘people love us on Unilocal’ stickers on the door. Well, since they had those stickers I thought it might be a really good place to check out. They basically do dumplings, and I have to admit that I haven’t had dumplings all that much so I guess it was going to be an experience. I have to say it definitely was — these dumplings were nothing short of awesome. In fact I’m going to have to give them a try more often than not now that I have discovered how great they are. The service was awesome, and before I knew it I had a steaming hot plate of dumplings in front of me, and the price was pretty good as well. No wonder people love this place on Unilocal

Its great to see hand made Korean food in Adelaide. The dumplings here are delicious and some of the best I have had either in Korea or in Australia. Even the dough is expertly prepared in front of your eyes, a welcome change from many Korean restaurants in Adelaide. Compared to Chinese dumplings, Korean mandu tend to have a lot more vegetables or tofu than meat. They also can be quiet spicy especially the kim chi ones, but others are completely non-spicy. My favourite is gunmandu or fried dumplings. Here they are served with a generous cabbage salad and a sesame dressing. Apart from the dumplings their other speciality is hot pot, which is so good and fresh. They have recently been very successful and this shows in some new high quality ingredients. I love the approach they have taken, sharing a small part of korean culture while using fresh local ingredients and making nearly everything from a scratch. This is what food should be about! I only wish they had a licence and imported some of the new craft beers being made in Korea now or even some dong dong ju!(a kind of brewed rice soup)

The dumplings are delicious, they are certainly different to Chinese dumplings. I do like how they accompany the dumplings with lots of pickles and salad, which cut through the greasiness. The restaurant do have a really nice atmosphere, and the service was also lovely.

I really wanted to like this place more, especially after seeing quite a few reviews and reading about it in the Adelaide Street guide but I was not blown away. I have the veggie steamed dumplings and tried the fried pork dumplings. Both were tasty but I’m not desperate to go back … Too many other places to try!

Homg, well worth the wait. The steamed pork dumplings and the soup was oh so flavoursome! It’s all in the awesome wicked looking chilli Kim chi sauce. Well worthy of a return visit!

As with most totes amaze balls Asian restaurants, you could easily walk past and instantly dismiss it. It just ain’t got no vibe. But they sure as hell deliver on flavour. My hotel was just around the corner and after a very boozy lunch(booze heavy, in fact I don’t even recall food) I was in desperate need of a quick snack. After a quick phone order I was back in my hotel with two piping hot containers of fresh and full of flavour dumplings. Boy they were good. The Kim Chi were everything I thought they’d be but the pork blew this dumpling lovers tiny mind! So do yourself a favour(I’ve suddenly turned into Molly Meldrum) and get yourself some of the best dumplings on offer. Anywhere.

Fresh and delicious dumplings! When the fried veggie dumplings arrived(a massive portion, yay!) I expected them to be a bit greasy. But quite the opposite — they were light, fresh and crispy. I also tried some of the dumplings soup, which was really tasty and filled with fresh vegetables. The staff is lovely and we didn’t wait for long for our meals. We were lucky in terms of seating and managed to grab the last table available(this was a Friday just before 7pm). It’s a small and busy place, so book if you want to be sure to get a table on a Fri or Sat night. You don’t want to risk missing these delicious dumplings!

This is my fifth time at Mandoo now, and the experience was the same from when I had my first dumplings here, GLORIOUS! This time I got the vegetarian dumplings, but it was just as good as the meaty options. The chilli sauce competes each watering bite. Definitely one of the best dumpling place in Adelaide.

I am a self confessed dumpling slut. In Melbourne it’s Shanghai Street for me. Sydney, Din Tai Fung. In Adelaide, Mandoo has definitely got the moves! The Kim Chi dumplings are a joy. A bundle of delicious fermented cabbage wrapped up in a crispy shell. A treat! A modern day dim sim. Authentic Korean taste too. The pork dumplings are amazing. The subtlety of texture yet punchy flavour means you’ll eat them all and want more. The cucumber and cold potato mash condiments are a nice included touch too. Korean food is not Korean food without a good accompiament or seven. I look forward to getting back here on my next Adelaide trip. Thanks a plenty Mandoo.

After a second visit specifically for the pan fried prok dumpling, I decided to give it four stars— not only because the fried dumpling is better, or the side pickles, mashed potato and lecture salad were a pleasant surprise, It’s that the owner will give you a big super friendly smile and politely nod to say hello to you, no matter how busy he was in the business. That can make any ordinary customer come in just for a take-out after a busy day feel hearty, warm and wanna come by again.

Love this place. Serving up some Korean Dumpling(Mandoo) Delights. Whether Steamed, Fried or in a Soup the dumplings from here are great. They do a couple of other Korean dishes as well for those that aren’t in the mood for a great dumpling.

Amazingly fast service, good food, very efficient and friendly. I went the steamed dumplings(no soup). The texture and consistency makes me think pairing with a soup would make it even better.

The bi bim Bab was recommended, hence am here to check it out. True to word it was a flavoursome one with plenty of accompaniments, the beef was perfect n the clear soup was just perfect. The last time I was here, I only had the dumpling n this time around with 2 of us, I was able to try the kimchi dumpling. So glad we did, it had smashed tofu, minced pork etc as filling. Awesome with the dipping sauce. Definitely well satisfied lunch n all I need now is a nice ice cream on a warm spring day on my way home.

The great dumpling debate rages on while everyone«in the know»(including the Koreans) of Adelaide go to Mandoo. Mandoo is a tiny little hole in the wall in Bank St, run by the sweetest Korean couple who on the night proved to us there were famous(they were featured in the Advertiser). It is the most welcoming venue on a cold winter’s night but you will struggle to get a table if you get there anywhere between 6pm-7:30pm in the cold season. Our eyes were almost bigger than our stomachs when we saw the Mandoo Hot Pot on the menu until we saw one come out — not recommended for a 2 person share(more like 3 – 4)! We settled for 6 pork and 6 chicken steamed dumplings with a serving of Vegetarian Bibimbap. Like a true foreigner we ate our meal the completely wrong way, and were given some concerning looks by our waitress, when mixing the clear soup broth we were given with the Bibimbap ingredients and with our steamed dumplings. Note to self: Bibimbap is meant to be eaten like a salad. Despite that little hiccup everything was so refreshingly light and packed with flavour. The meat was cooked to perfection and the dumplings had plenty of «juice» to suck from them. The salad was crispy(prior to being dumped in salty soup goodness) and a huge serving — enough for 2. Meals came out quickly and this is a great place to go if you are on the run. They also do takeaway which is on the cards next season for me on the way home from work!

I put the call out on social media about two months ago for ‘Adelaide’s Best Dumplings’. I know, I know: not an original tweet, but within 5 minutes, I’d received 5 replies, all shouting ‘Mandoo! Mandoo! Mandoo!‘ First I ducked. Then I checked overboard. THEN, I realised these helpful Twits were unanimously urging me down Bank Street, and to a cosy little dumpling haven. Now I know about Mandoo, Tuesday’s no longer exist. It’s now MandooDay. And I actually park in a completely different car park on to make it easier to perform the dumpling pick up come end-of-day. I’ve never dined in, only take-away — the food travels well. We’ve had dumpling soup, steamed dumplings, and my latest obsession, the vegetarian Bimbaboo(eeeeeee fun to say! *wiggle*) — tasty seaweed, tofu, mushrooms, the lot: so super tasty. Like, actual. I inhale it. The staff/owners are so so lovely. Big smiles. Happy nods. Cheerful acknowledgement. I love it. It shouldn’t be called Bank Street, really — Mandoo’s fare is cheap. I can feed three males, and myself, for under $ 50.00.(And these are blokes that spend $ 200 at Ying Chow. I know, they achieve the impossible). A happy place.

I’ve tried going to Mandoo many times. Usually I start at the Train Station, make my way past Mamak Corner which is closed, and then stare through the windows of Mandoo interested but also disappointed. Interested because I’ve heard they do great dumplings. Disappointed because it’s always packed and there is usually a crowd of people already waiting outside. Thankfully I managed to finally sneak in on a Wednesday afternoon at around 4pm. I was instantly greeted by a friendly man who I assumed was the owner. He was sitting down having a chat at one of the tables, but he did a quick look around, saw everyone else was busy, and jumped up straight away to serve me. I went for the steamed kim chi dumplings, kim chi has been a favourite of mine since International schooling in Vietnam when I’d hang around my Korean friends at lunch time staring jealously into their bento boxes(I’m sure I’m committing a real faux pas here using a Japanese word… but you get my drift). My dumplings and udon noodles came out quickly, and they were a bit more stylish than the likes of Dumpling King. Each dumpling looked perfect. They tasted delicious as well, especially when dipped into the accompanying sauce. The other thing I loved about this place: they had instructions for how to eat a Korean Hot Pot. I’ve never ordered a hot pot in my life because I’ve always been worried I’ll ‘eat it wrong’. So maybe I’ll suck up the courage at Mandoo, using their menu as a guide.
