The best thing about Collingwood Train Station is that it is close to the Park Hotel and Collingwood Children’s Farm at Abbotsford Convent. Unstaffed and with infrequent trains, watching the expresses speed by while you try get to somewhere better can be frustrating. The station is a little bedraggled, like the flag attempting to flutter above the adjacent police station. Like much of Collindwood, the station has ‘character’, looks right but is harmless enough.

Collingwood is one of Metro’s somewhat neglected stations: it’s not a premium station so it’s unstaffed, and the Metcard and Myki machines are fairly regularly out of order. The biggest problem with this station(and others around it such as West Richmond, North Richmond and Victoria Park) is that the frequent express trains on the Epping and Hurstbridge lines go straight from Jolimont to Clifton Hill and skip this station and the surrounding ones altogether. This can mean a nearly twenty minute gap between trains(even in peak hour), and if the train is cancelled or running late as has happened on several occasions, even longer. On the plus side, there’s a great view from the station platforms of Collingwood Town Hall and Gahans Reserve!
