Spatenhaus an der Oper

Although most sites list this as a 5 star restaurant, it is quite ordinary. The view of the square & opera house is nice, the menu so-​so, the service is good. Thinking that we were going to a 5 star restaurant, we dressed up only to find folks in jeans & t shirts dining with us.
There is also much confusion re: reservations. I reserved on Open Table, thinking that I reserved for the more elegant upstairs. The downstairs people said my reservation was for upstairs, the upstairs people claimed that my reservation was for downstairs, but they would accommodate us. I doubt that downstairs would require a reservation.

Warm ambiance, tasty goulash — meat was super tender and flavorful — quite good! I recommend it for an upscale pre-​opera or more casual dinner.

Glad to have gotten there early… they hesitated to seat us yet gave us a table that was reserved for others 75 minutes later… no matter, because I had possibly the best pork dish of my life, so it wasn’t a big deal that we were a teeny bit rushed. Spanferkel translates as suckling pig. It was incredible – crispy and tasty and tender as could be. The dumplings were exceptional, too. My dining companions both had cordon bleu and were very satisfied. Between 1800 and 1900 the place became completely full. Crowd seemed like clever, knowledgeable Germans for the most part. Beer was wonderful… it’s Späten, after all. Wait staff were seasoned pros… wish we had this type of professional waiter in more places stateside. I am dying to go back.

Came here prior to the opera. I had the crispy duck which was good. The setting is quite interesting and reminiscent of an old Bavarian house. It is an upper middle older crowd that come here. Service was ok but they are busy an make you feel it. If by yourself you are likely to be shoved in a small corner. A little too expensive for what you get but must be because of the area of town surrounded by Rolex, prada, Vuitton etc…

Sadly, the place is letting me down lately. The Spatenhaus has always been a solid address when it came to Bavarian Restaurants and Bavarian food. Granted, the prices has always been quite high but Service, Location and the food HAD been always worth it.
So why only a three star rating? Well.
Service is still impeccable. Prices are still high (what brings me to the outrageous item on the menu: 2,.50 per person for bread after 5 pm? Seriously your main courses from 14 – 38 EUR don’t have a little bit of bread factored in?) and food is still — predominantly Bavarian.
But the quality sadly is declining. Steak over done, Presentation sloppy, Wienerschnitzel breading too soggy, Tafelspitz too dry (yes — dry). And sadly this has been the case the last three times I have been there.
I hope that Spatenhaus is finding its way back to former glory, as the place was my only resort when taking out business partners or friends from out of Bavaria.
With friends I will go to Ayinger Braustueberl in Aying. But with business contacts…

Wir waren im Oktober zum wiederholten Besuch dort. Wir hatten einen sehr freundlichen und aufmerksamen Kellner der uns den ganzen längeren Abend sehr gut bediente. Wie sassen am Stammtisch in einem kleinen extra Raum, einfach perfekt.
Das Essen war reichlich und sehr gut. Angefangen bei den verschiedenen Suppen bis hin zur Ente oder dem saftigen Schweinebraten, auch dass Roastbeef war reichlich und sehr gut. Abgerundet wurde dass Essen noch mit einem leckeren Dessert.
Wenn wir in München sind, gehen wir hier immerhin.

Traditionell auf gehobenem Niveau. Das Spatenhaus ist eine Institution in München. Große, typisch bayerische Karte. Exzellente Zubereitung der Speisen, beste Zutaten. Das Preisniveau ist sehr gehoben, selbst für München ist das Preis-​Leistungsverhältnis nicht bei jedem Gericht in Ordnung.
Die Einrichtung ist hochwertig und typisch bayerisch. Im ersten Stock nochmal einen Tick hochwertiger. Toller Blick auf die Oper!
Der Service ist stark abhängig von der Person, die einen bedient. Ich habe von 1+ mit Stern bis zu «müsste gekündigt werden» schon alles erlebt.

I came here per the recommendation of a friend. She advised we try the schnitzel and crispy duck. My British friend and I came here for a late dinner and sat outside. The night was warm and the setting really is beautiful at night. Unfortunately, they were out of duck! Probably a good sign that people must have also loved this dish… Oh well, we both got the schnitzel and it was very yummy!
We both ordered bellinis and they were delicious. Our waiter was kind and spoke English. Service was great by European standards. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because although our food was good I would like to try other dishes before giving a 5 star review.

Juste en face de l’Opéra en plein cœur de la vieille ville, on pourrait suspecter le piège à touristes… Des touristes, il y en a plein, des gens d’affaires aussi, concédons donc que ce n’est pas le lieu de rencontre des Munichois pur jus.
Et pourtant, difficile de né pas apprécier: on a là le meilleur de la cuisine bavaroise méga-​roborative, du cochon, du chou rouge et de la choucroute à né plus savoir qu’en faire, et c’est délicieux, avec des viandes cuites à la perfection et des accompagnements aux petits oignons.
Quelques concessions à l’air du temps sont prévues à la carte, avec des plats végétariens (si si) ou plus légers, et même des salades.
Service aimable et étonnamment rapide.
En entrant, montez directement l’escalier, l’accueil se trouve au premier étage et on vous guidera jusqu’à votre table. En semaine on peut tenter sa chance sans réservation, mais je pense que le weekend c’est blindé jusqu’au plafond.
Pas le genre d’adresse qu’on se refile sous le manteau donc, mais pourquoi bouder son plaisir?

If you want to even be noticed here, pay attention to your attire. We were Waiting by the door for a table and got passed by two other couples better dressed than us. When I asked why, the waiter simply shrugged pretending that did not understand what I was asking. We left right away. I do not recommend anyone to eat or drink in here. Walk 5 minutes and go to Paulaner, Hofbräuhaus, Augustine, Ratskeller. I can bet it will be a much more pleasant experience.

It is a decent place yet quite pricy. You can get even better for less money. Nevertheless the service was very good. Location is convenient/​right on the crossing of couple shopping streets. We ordered sausages with potato salad, and schnitzel with asparagus as a side dish. The asparagus came with spectacular sauce. I couldn’t get enough of it. The rest was tasty but nothing special. Our bill for all of the above plus 2 soft drinks & an aperol spritz was 80 euros. Once again a bit pricy in my opinion…

In exponierter Lage muss man halt weder gutes Essen noch guten Service bieten, die Touristen kommen sowieso…
Wenn der Schweinsbraten zu den teueren Gerichten auf der Karte zählt weiß man schon was los ist.
Touristen sind hier das Ziel die typisch bayrisch essen wollen.
Dass selbiger dann auch noch trocken war und unterdurchschnittlich bestätigt den Eindruck.
Dem ganzen die Krone aufgesetzt hat der katastrophale Service.
Ein Kellern der scherzt ist immer gern gesehen. Aber wenn er einfach nur noch dreist und vorlaut ist muss das nicht sein.
Wir haben 1h auf die Rechnung gewartet und mussten gefühlte 10x danach fragen.
Für diese Lage absolut nicht akzeptabel was hier geboten wird.

Gutes Essen, aber schon sehr teuer, das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Der Ausblick auf die Oper natürlich grandios.
Einziger Wermutstropfen allerdings, dass man für Brot/​Brezn und Butter 2,50 € pro Person zu zahlen hat, außer man bestellt es ausdrücklich ab. Das ist ziemlicher Touristennepp und erinnert eher an Tourifalle Mittelmeer als an eine gehobene Gastronomie, was es ja doch sein möchte…

Hard to compare to other locals as it was our first such restaurant.
The atmosphere was what we expected in a Bavarian hofbrauhaus, and we like Spaten so we were happy to be in from the cold happily drinking and eating the local fare.

Ja, die Damen und Herren vom Personal denken, dass das gute Essen ihre unterdurchschnittliche Leistung ausgleichen kann.
Ich esse aber nicht meinen Kellner!
Die Kellnerinnen und Kellner brauchen DRINGEND eine Fortbildung! Es ist einfach nicht das Problem des Gastes, ob das Restaurant Reservierungen hat oder nicht. Und den Druck, den die Angestellten empfinden, wenn sie Gästen ohne Reservierung einen Tisch geben, DARF NICHT an die Gäste weitergegeben werden. Dies sind Sachen des Restaurants. Der Service ist unprofessionell und macht schlechte Stimmung. Sehr nervig! 2 Sterne für den Service.
Das Essen ist klasse! Tolle Kalbsleber — die Gemüse passen kulinarisch nicht dazu -, ausgezeichnetes Spanferkel und delikate Sülze.

Strangely only the other day did I finally visit this well-​known establishment by Max-​Joseph-​Platz. To summarize briefly: relaxed atmosphere, nice interior, and enjoyable food. Clearly they get a lot of tourists visiting, and they seem to take well care of them. The first-​floor menu has plenty of traditional Bavarian staples, but goes beyond that, as exemplified by my «Veal Liver Berlin Style». I say first-​floor, because my understanding is that the restaurant on the second floor actually has a different menu, and is somewhat more fancy. Obviously the beer comes from Spaten and the other breweries of the same family. The competition between these traditional Munich and Bavarian restaurants must be fierce, but Spatenhaus seems to hold their own. With their location in front of the opera they should also be a nice option for a pre-​opera dinner.

Ich war am 30.11.14 zum Abendessen mit 5 weitern Freunden im Spaten. Dies war mein erster Besuch.
Bedienung
Die Bedienung war flink, freundlich, hatte Humor und sehr angenehm. Sie war aufmerksam und sehr bemüht. Dennoch bekamen wir nicht alle zur selben Zeit unser Essen, für den letzten Braten mussten wir noch einmal nachfragen. Dieser kam danach jedoch unverzüglich.
Bei den Getränken gibt es nicht viel zu sagen, wie üblich bestellten wir alle Bier und Radler. Das ist bei Spaten bekanntlich «gut»
Das Essen
Das Essen war ein wenig kostspielig. Es gibt andere Wirtshäuser in München mit der gleichen Qualität zu einem angenehmeren Preis.
Wir bestellten Suppen, Wiener Schnitzel und Schweinebraten.
Die Suppen, waren von der Einlage her «grob», mann musste schneiden und drücken um die Suppeneinlage mundgerecht zu bekommen. Vom Geschmack her aber keine Beanstandung.
Der Schweinebraten war sehr üppig und kaum zu schaffen. Leider mussten wir etwas auf dem Teller zurück lassen. (Hier lieber etwas kleiner und dafür günstiger)
Die Kalbsschnitzel sind ein Traum, jedoch die Portionsgrößen sind leider unterschiedlich gewesen, so bekam mein Tischnachbar 2 große Schnitzel und ich die 2 kleineren. Der Rösti war ebenfalls hausgemacht, jedoch sehr Farblos (ich bevorzuge knusprige gut gebräunte Röstis).
Das Ambiente
Einladend, typisch bayerisch, aber gehoben. Sehr schön. Große Tische, dennoch konnte man sich unterhalten.
Sauberkeit
Es war angenehm sauber. Die Stimmung an unserem Tisch war ebenso gut, da kommt man nicht auf die Idee, nach fehlern zu suchen.

Reservierung des Tisches hat sehr gut geklappt. Freundlicher und aufmerksamer Kellner. Angenehmes Ambiente. Schöné Lage. Das Essen war sehr gut und die Portionen ausreichend groß.
Preislich im oberen Bereich, aber auch entsprechende Qualität.

Wenn man Gäste aus Übersee mit der bayerischen Küche vertraut machen will, gibt es sicher Alternativen. Mit dem Spatenhaus wählt man aber sicher eine der besten. Davon sind viele überzeugt. Deshalb mussten wir auch an einem Montag abend reservieren. Wir saßen im Erdgeschoß um einen großen Tisch mit Stühlen und Bänken und konnten uns trotz des großen Betriebs gut unterhalten.
Die Bedienung spricht eben auch englisch und kann bei der Auswahl helfen. Die Menükarten sind dazu auch noch sehr anständig übersetzt. Also bestellten wir uns frisches helles Bier, das auch so schnell serviert wurde, und den als Hauswein angebotenen Weißburgunder von der Mosel (28 €), der uns ausgezeichnet schmeckte.
Der Bayerische Vorspeisenteller mit Kaminwurz und Südtiroler Speck kam allerdings nicht so besonders an. Man hatte wohl etwas aufwendigeres erwartet, wenn auch die Qualität in Ordnung war.
Bei den Hauptgerichten fällt die Wahl schwer, so dass letztlich eine bunte Mischung bestellt wurde. Der Service war auch hier wieder ausgezeichnet und brachte nach angenehmer Wartezeit alles gleichzeitig heiß auf den Tisch. Der Renner war Zander mit Steinpilzen auf Risotto. Etwas mehr dem urbayerischen zuzurechnen war dann die Kalbsbrust oder das Spanferkel. Aber auch das Geflügel, Backhuhn vom ausgelösten Stubenküken und die Poularde mit Pfifferlingen bekamen erstklassige Noten und vervollständigten den Eindruck einer anspruchsvollen bayerischen Küche. Vernünftige Größen auf den Tellern in ansprechender Präsentation hinterließen eine zufriedene Gesellschaft.
Dass hier die Sauberkeit am Tisch und auf den Örtchen stimmt, ist sicher eine Selbstverständlichkeit. Allerdings ist das ebenso einer Erwähnung wert, wenn man das große voll besetzte Lokal bedenkt.

Das einzige was hier wirklich stimmt ist die Lage. Das Essen ist durchschnittliche bayerische Hausmannskost. Die Atmosphäre (zumindest unten) hat etwas von Bierhalle. Die Bedienung ist freundlich und flott, nach 10 Minuten hatten wir unser Essen. Aber das alles ist nicht die astronomischen Preise wert die hier verlangt werden.

If location is everything, then here is a place that has it all, and then some. Located smack in the middle of a bustling street of shops, tourists, locals, cabbies looking for drunkards to ferry elsewhere and other similar area mainstays, Spatenhaus an der Oper would be worthy of visiting based on where it is alone. That they have some delicious cuisine to back up their popular reputation is an added bonus as this is one place you will want to hit up when in Munich, even if it may knock your wallet out.
Being that we looked every bit the tourists we were, albeit without a fanny pack or a camera around our neck, we asked the concierge at our hotel about a place to eat at in town for authentic German dishes. We got a couple of suggestions to try out but this was the first and the «must eat at» choice of our hotel’s staff, and it only took a few minutes upon arrival to see why.
For one thing, the place is massive. Tables extend pretty far out on the main patio as you walk up to the door and the inside is even bigger. The ground floor is a mass of tables and chairs, as well as some tables nestled into sections of the wall, giving them the appearance of a «private dining room» (or private dining table). Upstairs is similar with a greater view, although it is via a stairway that becomes a game of chicken if someone is going the opposite way you are when you attempt to navigate it. Our concierge called ahead and we scored the first secluded table right off the main door on the first level — it was a pretty spacious table with a wrap-​around bench for our seats, plus a couple pillows and some cut-​out «windows» in the room to see out and possibly frighten anyone coming through the door as we were the first people they would see.
Our server greeted us promptly and brought salvation in the form of an English menu. WIthin a matter of minutes, we were enjoying some local beers and a pretzel appetizer that was impossibly tasty. When it was time to order the entrees, we asked for some suggestions, as well as for opinions on dishes we thought about trying. Now here is where our guy really delivered: he was brutally honest. I had my dining choice down between a pork dish and the «saddle of lamb» and without hesitation he opted for my trying the lamb. And kudos to him because despite wrestling the fatigue of the 13-​hour flight earlier that day, the pretzel appetizer and the three beers I had waging war in my stomach, I persevered and devoured that lamb without slipping into a coma and banging my head on the table. The others went with the pan-​fried chicken and the beef medallions with spaetzle. They were similarly wondrous as 10 days later when our trip ended, they were both referenced amongst the best meals we ate during our whirlwind tour of the country.
The only possible chinks in the armor come in the form of the pricing and, oddly enough, the service. There’s no getting around the first point: this place does not come cheap. Yeah, it’s good and you will be satisfied as you struggle to stand up from your chair and walk off some of what you ate, but unfortunately your wallet will be the only one to be thinner following the meal. Keep that in mind before eating, and keep in mind the service can fluctuate wildly depending on how busy they are outside, inside and upstairs. There were a few moments where it seemed like we may have been accidentally forgotten about in our secluded hole of a dining room. If you are averse to a leisurely meal (or fear jet lag setting in and causing you to collapse face-​first in your entrée), sit out in the open where the staff can easily be flagged down if you have a request.
But those minor quibbles aside, this is a must-​see dining destination. Drown the sorrows your wallet may have in a few beers and let the people-​watching and good times commence.

In geschichtsträchtiger Umgebung sitzen, trinken und speisen. Man sollte nicht auf den Euro schauen, aber es lohnt sich, drinnen und draußen.

Situated in a fabulous location across from the Opera house, this Bavarian specialist is a wonderful place to enjoy traditional mixed with some more contemporary items in a beautiful setting. We intentionally sat in the upstairs dining area so that we could enjoy a more relaxed dinner while still experiencing the cuisine. My husband does not typically eat protein other than duck, fish and chicken. But when in Munich… you must indulge in the traditional pork! So he ordered the Bavarian plate which was the largest plate of pork, white sausages –which they are known for, and duck I have ever seen. I had grilled prawns with beautiful white asparagus (as they were seasonal) and seemed to be a special… there was an entire «Asparagus» menu!
The wine selection was decent particularly because this place is a bier kind of place if you know what I mean. Hubby and friends enjoyed the local brews.
My friend’s schnitzel was also wonderful. I do not really eat much veal, never mind breaded and beautifully fried, but this preparation was quite good and worth a taste!
While it might be considered touristy, this place is really worth trying especially if you’re looking for the traditional Bavarian experience in a more elegant setting.

For Gemuetlichkeit in the center of the city, without all the «Disney-​like» atmosphere of the Hofbrauhaus, this a great place to go. The food is really of high quality. No slap-​it-​on-​the-​plate here. The location is amazing; if you can manage to snag a seat on the second floor and front of the building, you have a beautiful view of the Operaplatz glittering in the night. Other rooms are less atmospheric, but still comfy.
The food is amazing. A large menu of classic Bavarian and Austrian grub, but truly well prepared. I had a Tafelspitz that nearly melted in my mouth. The Schweinesbraten and Schnitzel looked nearly as good. Just one thing: this place is damn expensive. 27 euro for a schnitzel? Yeah, you’re paying for location and the name. Worth it if you’re out for a group of colleagues, but chances are there’s something just as good and a quarter of the price down the street.
All in all, great gemuetchkeit and delicious food… if you got the bank for it.

The upstairs (white tablecloth dining room) is apparently more relaxed than the crowded and casual downstairs. I had the Bavarian platter which included an insane amount of meat. I shocked and amazed my colleagues when I actually finished the entire thing. I wouldn’t recommend this entrée unless you’re prepared to fight back a 2 hour food coma :). The duck, pork, and sausages were all quite tasty. I was disappointed with my pre-​main course pretzel which was a bit tough/​stale. The dark beer served was very tasty. Service was good too, overall a decent traditional Bavarian meal.

Wir wollten am Abend nach einem Theaterbesuch noch nett einkehren. Begrüßt wurden wir mit: «Sie haben erst heute reserviert, aber wir drücken da mal ein Auge zu und geben Ihnen trotzdem einen Tisch am Fenster, haben Sie noch zwei Minuten?» Aber dann standen wir irgendwie ewig im Foyer herum.
Der Salat, den ich mir bestellt habe, hat zwar ganz ok, aber keinesfalls irgendwie besonders gut geschmeckt und war aber äußerst lieblos angerichtet. Die Maronensuppe meines Mannes hat nach Konzentrat geschmeckt. Das Auge isst mit und mir wäre der 18 €(!!!)-Salat höchstens ein Zehner wert gewesen, eher weniger. Auch die Suppe war zu teuer.
Die Bedienung war routiniert, hat aber gewirkt, als sei sie unter Verkaufszwang.
In der Innenstadt gibt es sehr viel nettere Restaurants und ins Spatenhaus werde ich nicht mehr gehen.

Stuffy, snobby… this place is definitely nicht für mich.
I felt like Ace Ventura in the mansion party scene with the Monopoly guy. It was basically a less tongue-​in-​cheek version of THIS:
… but with exponentially more old-​timey aged Monopoly guys.
I think this place is meant more for the geriatric opera crowd or the grandmas and grandpas touring the city center, because our group of 4 was the youngest by about 100 years (
.god… I saw the crypt keeper here).
But after looking at the menu it kind of makes sense. It was all that crazy carb-​heavy, brown, beige, white gravy heavy foods that my grandma loves… because, well, she’s old and her taste-​buds are probably dead already. I, on the other hand, am clinging to youth for dear life and can’t afford to eat that way in my condition (which isn’t so much a condition as it is more of my not being able to afford a new wardrobe of pantalones if I get any fatter).
I was turned off as soon as we walked in here when went to head into the dining room and a bitter elderly woman with a yappy little purebred dog (allowed inside the main restaurant dining room) stood up and knowingly pushed her chair into our pathway. Then proceeded to call one of the male servers over with her fur coat and ordered him to put it on her… while the four in my group all waited, huddles and backed into a corner. Her entire old biddy group looked on while even her little dog had more room (and respect than us).
When we finally broke through, we were sat at an enormous square table that could have easily fit 12 people, only they took away the other chairs so we all had seats at the far opposite sides of the table, unable to even communicate with each other. What a great meal this should be, right? We asked to sit at one of 60 other open tables that were smaller in the dining room, but were told those were saved. ALL OF THEM. Really? Whatever. Fine.
We perused the menu and I not only couldn’t find a single thing on the menu that I felt shouldn’t come with a side of Lipitor, but we couldn’t order even if we’d wanted to. We sat and sat and sat and sat. No drinks, not even water, no bread, no nothing. We tried to flag down servers who continued to tend to the other tables and even go and start new tables who had just walked in and been sat (in the tables that we were told we saved). Some of the servers would ignore us completely, some would bump into our chairs and say nothing as they passed, and others would make a motion like they knew we were waiting and that they’d be right over, but none ever came back. We waited 25 minutes before we ended up packing up our coats, hats, gloves, etc and deciding to leave.
As we got up to leave it was obvious that every one of the staff members noticed us and seemed relieved. It was so weird… mainly because in America, old people tables are known for being some of the most work and the worst tippers, while a table of young, bright whippersnappers like ourselves would be a pretty hot commodity. Not here, apparently.
The first and only verbal contact we had with a server was when I left my hat at the table, and a server found it and tossed it over to me on my way out the door… which was funny because they literally rushed to the table once we left to clear our menus and set the chairs back up but couldn’t have cared less about coming over during the nearly 30 minutes we sat with nothing.
Let the record show that I do normally respect my elders, but that I also ask for a just a little r-​e-​s-​p-​e-​c-​t in return as well. Here, there was none of that.
I have no doubt that they deliberately treated us poorly, whether it was because we were young, weren’t wearing stuffy turtlenecks or mink stoles, or maybe because we’re American, and for whichever reason (s) it was, I can only recommend this place to as a decent hang if you’re a classic board game icon, hoity-​toity biotch, and/​or wicked witch of the west… who all already appear to be regulars here.

Walked by and it looked nice. Was there off-​hour and was able to haggle and get a table on the second floor by the window.
Very nicely decorated place and very pleasant atmosphere. I didn’t even hear music playing in the background — very nice .
Decided to try their combination Barvarian dinner so I could try a little of everything (sausage, pork, chicken). Was very very good but also very big. If you are with someone you could easily share.
I might go back tomorrow to try the pig knuckle.

Sakrisch guat aber auch sau teuer!
Wenn man in der Innenstadt richtig gut bayrische essen will tut man sich ja überraschender weise sehr schwer was zu finden. Sicherlich es gibt viele bayerische Lokale in der City, aber keines hat meiner Meinung nach so eine gute Küche wie das Spatenhaus.
Die gute Lage und exzellenter Service kostet dann leider seinen Preis. Man muss einfach mit 10 – 20 € mehr rechnen wie in der Wirtschaft vor den Toren der Stadt.
Ich bin der Meinung, dass das Preis /​Leistungsverhältnis dennoch stimmt, verglichen an der Qualität der Speisen sogar günstig ist.

War hier zum 2. Mal und wurde wieder nicht enttäuscht.
Der Service war sehr aufmerksam, wir kamen gegen 16:00 ziemlich sporadisch an und uns wurde ein Tisch im 1og in einem séparée angeboten.
Wir bestellten tafelspitz und Schweinebraten. Beide Gerichte wurden mit Beilagen servier — Blaukraut und Bratkartoffeln. Es war sehr lecker!
Kann nicht nachvollziehen wie man hier von Touristenfalle sprechen kann, hier wird bayrische Küche gemacht die schmeckt wie sie schmecken soll. Sicherlich ist der Preis etwas höher als bei anderen lokalen in der Stadt doch ich zahle gerne mehr wenn ich dafür frische Fleischstücke bekomme und keine ausgetrockenen Stücke die nach Pressfleisch schmecken und bereits hart sind.
Es geht bestimmt auch günstiger, aber nicht direkt in München, zumindest nicht bei der Qualität und dem Service. Hier werden zumindest noch richtig ausgebildete Restaurantfachleute eingesetzt und nicht irgendwelche Studentinnen die vom komasaufen am Vortag nichts auf die Rhein bekommen und dazu noch arrogant sind (wie in vielen dieser Möchtegern «in-​Bars» mit cooler Ausstattung aber wenig dahinter).
Von nun an mein lieblingsbayer, das Wirtshaus in der Au hat es leider vergeigt denn genau die Mängel bei der Qualität des Essens haben mich zum umdisponieren veranlasst.
Die Desserts sind im übrigen auch außerordentlich lecker und vor allem der Kaffee schmeckt köstlich (illy).

Das Spatenhaus an der Oper ist ein Kuffler-​Haus (bekannter Münchner Wirt). Dies merkt man vor allem an den Preisen. Allerdings sind hier auch die Speisen und das Ambiente so wie man es erwartet.
Die Portionen sind ausreichend und die Qualität der Speisen ist sehr gut. Man kann hier durchaus alles empfehlen. Der Tafelspitz hat es mir allerdings angetan.
Die Einrichtung ist wie in einer Art
Nobel-​Bierhalle. Die Platzverteiltung ist wie in einer Bierhalle (teilweise großzügig). Die Plätze sind jedoch wie in einem Restaurant eingedeckt.
Das Personal ist professionell, leider auch manchmal ein wenig angespannt.

Ein guter Ort um vor der Oper noch etwas zu essen. Wir wurden freundlich bedient und vielleicht hatte auch ein anderer Koch Dienst, aber am Essen gab es nichts zu beanstanden. Der Preis ist meiner Meinung der Lage angemessen.
Die Ausstattung ist gediegen und gemütlich, wir wurden schnell bedient und das Essen war heiß.

Great food, excellent service and weissbier served nice and cold. I was recommended this place by one of the ladies in the office and we had a team dinner here and everyone enjoyed it.
The duck or otherwise called bauerente was absolutely divine and the kartofflekanodle was stodgy and delicious. The portions were big and I could not finish it all.
Will defenitely come back here and the staff are so friendly and excellent. Whilst it is a bit touristy it is probably the best duck I have had in a while and all of my German colleagues also enjoyed it very much :-))

Eher etwas nobles bayrisches Wirtshaus mit großen Portionen und gehobenen Preisen. Alles ist auf schnellen Durchsatz ausgelegt aber unsere Bedienung war sehr freundlich und hat geduldig alles erklärt. Die Speisen sehr lecker.
In größerer Gruppe hat man ohne Reservierung keine Chance

Die schlechten Bewertungen konnten wir bei unserem letzten Aufenthalt überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen.
Unsere Service-​Dame war topfit und sehr aufmerksam. Das Essen war der Hammer. Mein Kalbsgulasch war butterzart und meine Begleitung war auch rundum glücklich.
Wir haben das Spatenhaus hochzufrieden verlassen.

Immer, wenn ich nach München komme, gehe ich im Spatenhaus essen. Das Ambiente dort ist sehr schön und das Essen war jedes Mal sehr gut. Ich persönlich bevorzuge das Schnitzel Wiener Schnitzel oder Schnitzel Wieder Art, es schmeckt beides superlecker. Für mich als Schnitzelfan eines der besten Schnitzel in ganz Deutschland.
Die Preise sind in der Tat recht hoch, aber in Anbetracht der dafür gebotenen Leistung, kann ich mich nicht darüber beschweren. Der Service war immer sehr nett, aufmerksam und schnell.
Bei meinem nächsten Besuch in München werde ich garantiert wieder im Spatenhaus essen gehen.

This is traditional Bavarian cuisine located in the center of where the shopping and stores are. It’s right in front of the opera house. We sat outside and were given English menus (I guess they overheard us talking). It was interesting to see the translations, but anyways…
I ordered a radler and got the pan fried «rosefish» which came with a remoulade sauce and potato salad. My Dad got a beer and had the crispy duck which came with blue cabbage.
The portion’s were huge! For the fish, it was 2 fillets that were lightly fried. The fish was fresh and crispy, and the sauce was tangy. Use the lemon that comes with it to really enhance the flavors. The potato salad was delicious, it was typical German potato salad but it was a large amount for a side. My Dad’s duck was basically half a duck, and he thoroughly enjoyed it, especially since the skin was light and crispy and there wasn’t very much fat in between. The cabbage was tasty as well.
The service was good, up until the point when we wanted to get the check. Our waiter seemed to disappear for 10 min and then would go to tables around us when he reappeared again.
The prices are about double then other Bavarian places in the area; for just the 2 of us it was about € 50. However, the portion’s were large and everything was very good.
Tip: most restaurants have a basket of bread and/​or pretzels out on the table, but know that it’s not complementary like it is in the states. They will charge you if you eat any.
Great place to go on a beautiful day and sit outside!

Wem beim Oktoberfest das Weinzelt gefällt, der kann hier die Wartezeit verkürzen.
Das Spatenhaus des in München bekannten Innhabers Stefan Kuffler gehört ohne Frage zu einer der angesagtesten Locations überhaupt. Durch seine zentrale Lage und der Nähe zur Oper ist es eine meiner absoluten Lieblingslokale. Schon mehr als einmal habe ich nach einem schönen Opernabend (ja, ich bin jung und finde Oper toll) hier einen kleinen Absacker getrunken oder aber vorher fantastisch gegessen. Die Speisekarte ist so vielseitig, da läuft mir jedesmal das Wasser im Mund zusammen und meine Augen sind schon mehr als einmal größer gewesen als mein Bauch. Neben einem Außenbereich gibt es im inneren auf zwei Etagen so viele gemütliche Ecken, dass man sich einfach wohlfühlen muss.
Und wer noch kein Fan der Münchner Weißwurst ist, hier wird es sicher jeder, denn Kufflers Weißwurst ist mit Gold Prämiert.

Der ideale Ort, um einen Shoppingsamstag mit einem Weißwurstfrühstück einzuläuten. Es gibt sogar regelrechte Weißwurst-​Frühstück-​Stammtische hier.
Gerhört in die Gastrofamilie Seehaus, Haxnbauer, GrünTal und Mangostin. Sonderbarerweise gibt es für das Erdgeschoss eine andere Speisekarte als für das Obergeschoss.
Zünfig bayrische Kost mit Rahmschwammerl, Schweinsbraten und –haxn. Auch die Bedienungen sind standesgemäß in Tracht gekleidet und das Interieur ist holzvertäfelt.
Perfekt auch zum Leute gucken, wenn man einen Sitzplatz draussen ergattern kann.
