Mel Garces

Mel and her team were wonderful! A friend had recommended this salon to me and I was NOT disappointed. From the second I walked in the door of the salon, I was taken care of. Firstly, the salon itself is beautiful and all of the products high quality. Secondly, the staff was extremely kind and accomodating. As this was my first time getting my hair done in a foreign country, I was definitely nervous. Mel herself cut my hair and her warm and carefree attitude and fun conversation immediately put me at ease. I would absoutely recommend this salon to anyone, especially English speakers who may be concerned about a language barrier. That was a concern of mine while choosing a salon to go to and there is definitely no need to worry with Mel’s.

I would also like to state for the record that after writing this review on Unilocal,I was endlessly harassed, insulted, and threatened by the owners of the salon. This was done in a private message. Instead of addressing each of my issues that I reviewed on a public forum as a response to the review, the owner or manager Thomas decides to continuously, in a series of messages, threaten me. Obviously this shows a serious lack of professionalism where a business owner threatens the customer privately if they don’t get a positive review? This is called EXTORTION, and these actions say so much more than my words need to say.

I LOVED Mel. I was searching everywhere for a salon that had good reviews and was English friendly and I finally found this one. I made the appointment online (really simple) and was able to find an appointment with Mel for the same day.
The salon is really cute. The waiting area is this upstairs loft area and below are the chairs, mirrors, etc. Mel was great. I brought a bunch of pictures what I wanted (a «lob» aka long bob) and she knew exactly what I wanted. She’s very easy to talk to, even in English, and very sweet.
I definitely recommend this salon, especially to English only speakers. It’s really scary to go to a new salon and have a language barrier but Mel made everything ok. She is definitely up to date with all the trends so you don’t need to worry about getting a cut that will make you look like a soccer mom or something. Prices are reasonable. I paid about 70 € for the hair cut (I cut off about a foot of hair), which is about the same as what I paid in the states. I plan on going back to Mel in the next couple weeks to get a balayage done.

I was surprised to receive a very poorly done, extremely short haircut (shorter than my husband’s and without my permission) *at a different salon*; and after waiting four weeks for a bit of growth, I visited Mel. I went in with hair that embarrassed me terribly and walked out feeling beautiful! Mel worked wonders on me and I am so thrilled that I have found her. She is my go-​to haircutter now. Danke, Mel!

Hair design or saloon can be quite an important stuff in ones routine scheme of things, and nevertheless how much we underplay it, we always end up working around our schedules to key in an appointment with our favorite designer.
so, I wanted to try something different start from this year and have had heard a lot about this place from my fellow Unilocalers. So, I paid a visit knowing pretty well, its a risk, where I am ditching my old no fuss, quick & easy hair dresser with a more sophisticated, stylish, nice ambiance, in short offering better hospitality hair saloon. And in the end I think, the risk taken was worth it.
This place gets full marks for the way you are treated and welcomed. The staff are friendly, cordial and warm — Mel the owner is super charming & enthusiastic always, Betany, Alex — I’ve tried all of them and difficult to distinguish one from other. All are brilliant. While, Mel can speak pretty good English, apparently she has worked in many English speaking countries her staff often struggle. But you end up managing with a bit of sign language and their broken language. Until now it has worked for me, so I guess it should work for everyone. The place is not so big, but adequate for 5 – 6 hair cuts at a time. on price point they are average, not so cheap at the same time not so expensive. hair cut with wash before & after costs around 35 bucks.
A note, this place is quite busy specially on weekends and all their staff calendar is full with back to back appointments. I sometime wonder how do they manage. So, a advise, please do make appointments well in advance. Lastly one thing I really loved was their new cool App on Appstore & Playstore. its freely downloadable and it will enable you to make, edit, cancel appointments through the app. This is a great stuff, now you no more need to wait for the shop to open and call to make appointment. All done through your handy.
So, whoever is looking for a change to their hair stylish, please consider Mel and I guess you wont regret.

Bei Mel Garces lasse ich mir seit 1 Jahr regelmäßig die Haare schneiden. Ich bin immer wieder überrascht über den tollen Service. Dieser Friseur ist einfach Spitzenklasse!!!

Ich war das erste Mal bei Mel und sie hat mir wunderschöné blonde Haare gezaubert ganz ohne Ammoniak, da hat nichts gejuckt oder gebrannt und die Haare sind wunderbar natürlich geworden, aber trotzdem hellblond ohne Gold oder Rotstich. Auch beim Schnitt hat sie wirklich NUR DIE SPITZEN geschnitten und ist total auf meine Wünsche eingegangen, kein lästiges Beraten was doch besser wäre, nein, die Friseurin hat alles so umgesetzt wie ich es wollte. Der Laden selbst ist sehr hell und angenehm. Man fühlt sich hier gut aufgehoben, sehr sympathisch und professionell. Vielen Dank für wunderbare Haare!!! Sehr weiter zu empfehlen!

Super profissional. Mel retocou minhas luzes — eu estava com uma raiz de três dedos e um aspecto de cabelo tingido… Mel manteve a cor no cumprimento do cabelo e retocou a raiz deixando o cabelo com um ar iluminado e natural. Muito satisfeita com o resultado. Voltaria, sem dúvidas.

Ich bin Super zufrieden mit diesem Friseur!!! Habe mich sehr gut aufgehoben gefühlt, weil Mel sich eine Dreiviertelstunde Zeit für die Beratung genommen hat. Mit dem Farbergebnis bin ich total zufrieden. Tolle Arbeit! Angenehme und lockere Atmosphäre! Ich werde definitiv wieder kommen.

Sehr gute Beratung und perfekte Schnitte stehen auch im neuen Laden von Mel auf der Tagesordnung. An der Einrichtung wird derzeit noch gefeilt allerdings ist der hohe Raum mit Galerie schön fürs Auge und garantiert gute Luft und gute Stimmung.

Der zweite Salon von Mel Garces’ befindet sich in der Leopoldstraße (direkt neben McD). Da für die nächsten Monate der erste Salon renoviert (neues Design, mehr Platz) wird, solltet ihr hierhin gehen/​fahren. In Zukunft wird Mel in der Leo sein und Flo wird in der Kurfürstenstraße bleiben.
Das Team wurde vor kurzem mit jungen und talentierten Damen verstärkt, die die gleiche Qualität und den gleichen Service bieten, wie wir ihn von Mel und Flo gewöhnt sind.
Der Salon ist zwar noch nicht vollständig fertig, ein paar Lampen fehlen noch oder sind ungünstig platziert, doch dies beeinträchtigt weder den Service noch die Qualität — und nach einer Baustelle sieht es auch nicht aus. Es fällt einem nur dann auf, wenn man weiß, wie es einmal aussehen soll oder wenn man sich mit dem Team unterhält. Im Smalltalk liegt auch eine Stärke des Teams — und das sage ich als Mann ;-) Ihr wollt Geheimtipps für eine tolle Bar, eine Partylocation etc. Sie kennen sehr viele ;-)
Preis: angemessen, wenn man die Qualität und den Service (Kopfmassagen und 2x Haar waschen immer inklusive) berücksichtigt. Meine Frisur (Mann: normaler Haarschnitt) kostet etwas über 30 EUR.
Fazit: Super Qualität, super Service, nettes und junges Team.
