Lovely place to have a coffee and whichever cake they have. This will become one of my favorite coffee shops in Schwabing West. Prices are ok and personnel is really kind.

Yeah for cake! Yeah for extremely competent and friendly service! The joint is cosy, filled with one-off, antique-y furniture and a welcoming vibe. The owner makes all the gorgeous cakes, torts and what-not herself(although Kuchenwerkstatt sells confections from other purveyors as well) from tried and true personal recipes. On the first page of the menu it reads that one is to both order and pay at the counter. As an Ami, I’m all about that style of service and watched as some folk got behind that ethos whereas others absolutely did not throughout my stay. As I was waiting to order, the gal who would then serve me had to pop out to deliver an outside table its check. Before she left, however, she gave me the complete low-down on all the various cakes on display and a few sweet treats that were staying cool in the fridge. This was terribly helpful as there was no signage. Our gal was chipper, very competent, as has already been mentioned, and exuded an air of confidence. I felt very well taken care of. I asked a few questions about the truffles on display and received, again, solid answers. I felt compelled, actually, to buy just a bit more than I thought I wanted upon arrival. Good job, Kuchenwerkstatt! The hubs, a bit more of a coffee snob than I, would quibble with the quality of the espresso drinks. Although they weren’t exactly ‘third wave coffee’ caliber, they were still quite drinkable(no covering up of crap taste with sugar). The hard milk foam and slightly too hot milk seemed so late 20th century, but whatevs. As garnish on the capp saucers came tempting tastes of Kuchenwerkstatt’s cakes decorating the wee spoons. That was certainly a nice touch. In addition to sweets Kuchenwerkstatt also serves savory dishes, soup among them. To be honest, I went in to Ku precisely because of its name, so I didn’t actually pay attention to anything other than their desserts. –next time. Die Kuchenwerkstatt has been open for about ten months, but it feels like it’s been a part of the ‘hood for longer. This place would seem to be a very welcomed biz to the neighborhood. Note: 9 to fivers may well have a tough time visiting Ku during the week. Its hours are 12pm to 5pm, Mo. thru Sa.
