I discovered this chain a few months ago in Munich and it has become a kind of refuge for me on bad travel days. Arrive at 7:00a and your room isn’t ready until 3:00p? Head to Coffee Fellows. Your train is delayed or cancelled in Mannheim? Head to Coffee Fellows. While I prefer to seek out local and unique coffee houses on a good travel day. On a day that I’m essentially sleep walking or loaded down with luggage and not up to exploring, this German chain is my coffee comfort zone. There are three locations in Mannheim, but the lounge at the Hauptbahnhoff was a welcome site. The décor is modern, subdued and swank. In my mind it is the German version of Starbucks. They always have good space for groups so you can have a meeting or otherwise spread out and work or visit with friends and colleagues. The menu is a whole host of coffee drinks, but I’m a fan of their hot chocolate. Lots of seasonal options and special drinks. They have a few other food items on their menu, but the focus is definitely on bagels. Not just plain, but filled with all sorts of interesting items. Elegant grab-and-go for your train trip.
