Love this place! Great food, beer and great bartenders. First time in Germany and I’ve made this place my regular.

how do I rate this restaurant. The service is good and food was great one day, only to come back and receive horrible service and a horrible breakfast. This place is nothing special, I am all about the service, which is horrible. Forget about it. I do not recommend this restauran, very baddddddd service from staff.

Oscar’s is one of my very favorite places in Landstuhl. It’s family friendly, clean, with a beautiful beer garden and great service. The food is amazing, especially the cottage pie which is self made! The new owners made Oscar’s a really fun place to hang out in the summer. They’re try to expend their beer selection as much as they can, which just think is really great. So whether you’re looking for a nice lunch or some cold beer, Oscar’s is the place to go to.

So far so good. My husband and I were looking for a cool place to have lunch and I think we found it here! Nice atmosphere, good beer and good food. We’ll definitely be back!

2.5 stars I’ll preface this by saying that I came to an Irish pub for German food so I probably should have felt letdown. But in Germany all food is somehow German? I ran into the flight attendant who was super helpful to me on my flight — even went out of his way to give me a large bottle of water and offer me snacks after I slept through both of the meals — and he recommended coming to Oscar’s rather than ordering at the overpriced restaurant in my hotel. I told him I was really wanting to get good German food and he mention that there was also a German place near Oscar’s. By the time I rounded up my group of Americans and we set out on our quest for a German restaurant, none were open. Apparently almost everything closes before 9pm in this little town. Needless to say, we ventured into Oscar’s for the promise of reasonably priced beer and any food. I scoured the menu looking for anything resembling authentic German food and was relieved to see schnitzel on the menu. I ordered it with Jäger sauce and what I thought the British server said were curry fries. Disappointments abounded when the server returned to announce they had only three schnitzel left. Naturally five of us had ordered the only German entrée on the menu(there’s always got to be one non-conformist) so two people had to volunteer to change their order. Sorry, not throwing myself on that landmine. She returned again to announce they were out of the Jäger sauce for the schnitzel despite having a healthy supply of the spirit itself in the bar(Jäger shots were on special — six for € 12…regular price € 3 each). I went with the garlic butter sauce instead which had a € 1 markup. The drinks arrived while we waited for Oscar’s entire inventory of schnitzel to make its way to our table. The non-conformist ordered the Jäger specials for those in the party who wanted to partake and everyone got a bottled hefeweizen — much like our meals, the only German beer available. The half-liter of beer hit the spot, knowing that it’d be some time before I have another beer… but also sort of sad(or ironic) that the selection didn’t compare at all to that of the beirgarten where I had my going away party in the US. When the food arrived I discovered that the fries that accompanied my meal were curly fries not curry fries. I guess being in Europe I was the one with the weird accent so… oops, my bad. It’s too bad, those fries were damn good, but could have been even better with some curry dusted on top or a nice curried mayo on the side. The pork schnitzel was pretty tough and the garlic butter sauce was good(very garlicky) but not the best pairing for pork. Overall dinner was so-so but when the bill came the € 10.99 +1 for sauce somehow became € 13.49 before tax and tip. I was too tired of dealing with some individuals in my group to deal with arguing over the extra $ 2 so I paid and left. Of note, the curry chicken apparently had very little chicken in it and the burger that another table mate ordered was huge but otherwise not noteworthy.

If I had to choose one word to describe this place I’d go with: «meh» — it was just okay in my book. The appetizer sampler was good. I ordered a BBQ bacon cheeseburger and it wasn’t very good. The meat didn’t taste right to me. There was red wine on the menu but they were out of it the night I was there. Our waitress was sweet but she was running the whole place solo: bar tending, serving tables inside and outside, prepping for closing. I’d go back again and maybe try the Guinness pot pie or one of their other Irish dishes.

It was a toss up between 4 and 5 but I went with 5 because of the superior menu to that of other pubs in the Landstuhl area. It’s not your typical rowdy pub but it has the common pub amenities that you might be accustomed to seeing. Beer on tap/bottled, liquor, coffee/espresso drinks, billiard table, music, TV’s with sports, and good food.

After too many years of drinking too much in too many bars, pubs, watering holes and various parties I consider myself an expert on the consumption of spirits and the nature of a damn good bar. Don’t expect neon lights mirror balls or a packed dance floor, If your looking for that I’ll send you my Address. Oscars is about good friends, good food and good fun; the fundimentals could not be more simple or done much better. The menu is robust and hearty pub food, you won’t be hungry after a meal at Oscars, if your mom was here she would eat here with you. The kitchen staff takes their work very seriously and they turn out a nice range of consistently wonderful meals. You will always find the bar well stocked and the tenders willing and able to mix your favorit combinations. For those who are brave enough order a few shots of black death and for those that enjoy a large bowl of chocolate ice cream drizzled with kaluah and fresh raspberry sauce, there is something special for everyone. Oscars has a wonderful crowd it’s steady stream of regulars mixed well with a variety of locals, european travelers, Americans, British, Irish, Germans and even a few Italians all make a dynamic crowd. Oscars not surpriseingly does not have many French which is not a shocker considering the rest of the crowd. If you can bring some that would be «a real treat». The wait staff is without a doubt the most talented team I have ever seen; no other bar in the area is lucky enough to have such good looking dynamic and intelligent servers. The whole team will make you feel welcome and keep you entertained. Some will say the proprieter is such a grumpy bastard that he had to open a bar to keep ‘rosie palm and her five sisters’ drunk enough to pull his pud. However, the man has invested quite a tidy sum in an area that is prone to the overly litigious actions of neighbors and police. He also must manage, daily costs, advertizement, schedules for everyone, banking, quality control and 1000 other things that come with running any new business. I give him credit the hours are long the work is hard and he still makes time to know his customers and I find him quite funny and personable, so will you, when you visit. For what it may be worth thats my take on Oscars. I’ll see you there soon! Probably Tonight.

Finger weg!

This pub is quite popular among some of the American ex-pats and military folks. Friends of ours are regulars here and have spent thousands of euros. Unfortunately, the owner is a very unpleasant individual. The other night after a wonderful good-bye dinner, our group wanted to finish the evening at Oscar’s, their regular hangout. There were many tables outside. Folks were chatting; no one was rowdy. The owner proceded to go from table to table chastizing patrons to be quiet. When I told him in German that his behavior towards his guests was inappropriate and uncalled for, he replied to me in English that I should take it up with the Germans. OK, as a German I understand all about Nachtruhe. But then there should not be any tables out. After all this is a pub, not a place for quiet romantic dinner in moonlight. Interestingly enough, on our way home, we stopped at our favorite watering hole, Can & Erdals Kebab Haus. People were still sitting outside conversing normally. No one complained and we had a great time. Too bad owners can get away with rudeness just because the Americans can speak English.
