Stay Boardinghouse

Hamburg ist immer eine Reise wert. Die Frage ist dann nur, in welchem Hotel man unter kommt.
Das Stay! Boardinghouse liegt im Stadtteil St. Georg und ist nur wenige Minuten vom Hamburger Hauptbahnhof entfernt. Und damit meine ich zu Fuß.
Es liegt an einer viel befahrenen Straße, direkt gegenüber dem örtlichen Rotlichtviertel und in Nachbarschaft einer Polizeiwache.
Luden, Huren, Dealer, Polizei… vor dem Hotel trifft sich alles. Ängstlichen und zurückhaltenden Personen, die am späten Abend wieder zurück ins Hotel wollen, sollten sich eventuell sichere Gegenden in Hamburg aussuchen.
Das Hotel ansich ist recht modern eingerichtet, liegt aber auch vornehmlich darin das man sich noch in der abschließenden Bauphase (Ende 2015) befindet.
Die Zimmer sind zwar weitestgehend fertig, aber man bemerkt die Bauarbeiten weiterhin. Auch am Samstag Abend gegen 19 Uhr dröhnten noch die Baugeräte der Handwerker durchs Haus und der Aufzug ist mit Holzplatten verkleidet, damit beim Transport von Baumaterial nichts beschädigt wird. Hübsch ist natürlich was anderes.
Auf anderen Bewertungsplattformen liest man auch vom auffällig freundlichen Team am Empfang, dies können wir jetzt nicht bestätigen. Mürrisch, aber nicht unfreundlich wurden wir bedient.
Unser Zimmer (3. Etage) hatte die Fenster zur Straße und war zu dieser Seite auch top isoliert. Die Geräusche von aussen hat man nicht gehört. Hinter dem Fenster befindet sich ein weiteres Glaselement, welches sich nicht öffnen lässt. Im Winter war das für die Temperatur im Zimmer förderlich, im Sommer könnte es eventuell warm werden.
Doch nochmal zurück zur Akustik. Das was man von aussen nicht hört, hört man dafür vom Flur her umso lauter. Schritte, Gespräche und vor allem die Zimmermädchen kommen nahezu ohne Schalldämmung akustisch im Zimmer an.
Ansonsten sind die Zimmer toll eingerichtet. Großer Schrank, Schließfach, Großbildfernseher, kostenlos Sky-​Sports, Wasserkocher, Kaffeepadmaschine, Minibar… alles vorhanden.
Das Badezimmer ist modern und sehr schick gestaltet. Da gibt es nichts zu meckern.
Die Lage ist nicht ideal, der Bauzustand (noch) etwas unschön, die Zimmer in der kalten Jahreszeit top.

The hotel is fairly new and there is still some construction work going on. They started drilling around 9 but that’s still kind of early if you expect to get some rest after a long trip. Nobody told us anything about this, nor did they inform us about anything else, like breakfast for example.
I guess they are having some startup issues but when we arrived the door was closed, no person behind the counter, we even called but no answer. After some time a guy finally let us in but this person didn’t seem to speak proper English.
The rooms are clean and nice. Pillows suck (but hey, that’s everywhere) and we had no soap in the shower (we used the hand soap). Talking about the shower; expect a waterballet and reserve at least 3 extra towels to clean up the mess as the water is getting everywhere.
WIFI is working properly and seems to be quite stable. Although the provided code stopped the next morning already.
They don’t accept card payments and will tell you the machine broke down this morning. It seems like a lie to get cash money and there are more entrepreneurs doing the same in this area. If you read other reviews you’ll see it’s not only you that needs to pay cash. Quite a bummer considering the area. It’s definitely not the place where you would wanna pull out some hard cash at the ATM.
There is no parking and the nearest parking is around 7 min walking. That’s fine but after we’ve seen the area I wish I’ve picked a hotel with parking. And there’s at least one close by.
I would not recommend staying in this area unless you are here for religious reasons. It’s packed with Muslims from all countries and probably a lot of refugees and gypsies too. Or maybe they are street girls. Anyway, there is no German culture to sniff up here and it doesn’t feel save at all. It’s also extremely rural until the late hours so don’t expect to have a nice rest with the window opened. Closed it’s quite ok since they have pretty good isolation.
Anyway, don’t go to this area if you have no good reason. We didn’t even explore it since my gf didn’t feel save at night.
