My wife lives and works in Hamburg, so I came to live with her and I am here 3 weeks. Today we had an apointment at 5pm by the Vet but since she was working, I took our cat on my own. Doctror's assistant was kind and she told me that she doesn't speak English but the doctor does. At some point the doctor came out and I asked him kindly to speak in english with me (as I don't know any German at the moment) but he responted negatively and rudly in German. He CONTINUED to speak in German making me feel bad aboud not understanding what he was saying and I told him AGAIN "sorry I dont understand German meine Frau is at work and I brought unsere Katze" (I used all the German I know). He replied again rudly and IRONICALLY "emeeergency do you know what an emeergency is?" Again I didn't understand what he was saying as emergency was the only english word he said and I told him "I have a termin at 5pm". He responded in german again showing me the practice room and told me "lets do quickly I have an emergency." (Outside there was only regular calm people with peacefull animals.) Me and my wife had prepared a printed word file IN GERMAN witch I gave it imidiatelly to him when I saw him and told him "here are some information also in German if it helps" and he IGNORED it. When we got inside I had to tell him again that this PRINTED word is for you in German if it helps." He readed the file and called my wife. HE asked HER what type of alergy is that and what are these red scars on our cat. My wife kindly explained again, that the problem is that WE DON'T KNOW what these symbtoms are and what type of allergy this is and that's why we booked an apointment with the ''VETERINARY''. Not to mention the most important thing - he LITERALLY was AFRAID to touch my cat (witch at the time WAS HUGGING his assistant). He was trying to avoid touching her by asking my wife on the phone to tell him more about our cat's skin (!). I told him "I cut her nails" and he responded "but she also has teeth". WHAT KIND OF RESPONSE IS THAT? And ok let's say that you don't want to be polite or help me, after all I didn't come here for me, I came for my cat. He DIDIN'T want to help my cat. He went close but HE WAS AFRAID to touch her and I had to show him by myself where the most of the allergies are.
Let me tell you something Mr. Mark-Niklas Klingberg. The way you treated me was TOTALLY RACIST. You are A DOCTOR and English is a UNIVERSHAL language that WE ALL HAVE TO SPEAK. When a human being aks politely to speak in english YOU DONT CONTINUE TO SPEAK IN GERMAN WITH A RUDE WAY and making him feel UNWELCOME HERE.
And one last thing. If you are afraid of heights you don't become a pilot. If you are afraid of nails and teeth DON'T BECOME A VETERINARY.
