Nothing all that special here. Just a laundromat with the usual, nothing more nothing less. All machines worked properly so that’s a plus. Place could use some cleaning up — plus very old equipment.

Located between the hip bars and boutiques of Wallstrasse, near its junction with Darmstädter Landstraße and thus on the edge of Ebbelwoi central, this is, as far as I know, the only laundromat in Sachsenhausen. Its functioning can be a little baffling to newcomers(as a regular visitor, I’ve often had to initiate novices), so let me give you the lowdown on this unprepossessing, but solid place. Prices are in line with the city-wide average: A small machine(6 kg) will set you back EUR3.50, a large(12 kg) EUR7. You put your money in the machine in the wall. Small notes(EUR5 and 10) are accepted. Press the number of your machine(s) and, where applicable, the red button beneath the coin slot for change. Washing powder is included in the price and also dispensed at the push of a button. Put it in the compartment at the top of your machine and then, having made sure the door is closed firmly, select your programme. The 60° cycle takes 38 minutes. Dryers operate by the same principle. With the exception of some mysterious«large dryers»(look more or less the same), they are EUR0.50 for 10 minutes. A decent load of washing may take three runs to get bone dry. Facilities are pretty basic: Just a bench to sit on, but at least you can browse the shops nearby if you get bored or the place is too crowded, or grab a coffee, falafel etc. around the corner. There’s no actual service: The manager is a hefty guy who’s usually walking his dog and doesn’t like to be troubled on his mobile(number by the central control panel), but you shouldn’t need to. A decent enough place which could do with some comfy seating, more laundry baskets and slightly better maintenance, but it works just fine. Open Mon.-Sat. 0600 – 2300 hrs. Closed Sundays, alas, due to local regulations.
