Apfelwein Wagner

Very typical place, very German food and the only other drink they have besides water is apfelwine! No really this place is a hit. It is very busy, a tiny bit touristy as the number of reviews tell us but it is well worth the try. My brother living in FRA took me there because the food is typical, served in large portions, the wine is typical of the region, served in big glasses or in those little jars painted in blue typical of the region And they serve the famous Grüné Sauße soo typical of the region. It sits on the other side of the town next to a few places similar in concept, the old tavern German style. Though they are busy and all, service stays on point, and the crowd is cheerful and lots of good moments seem to be happening there. You want to be coming with a large group of friends and hang out for a little while. For food I had the marinated beef with Grüné Sauße and potatoes. The beef was a big slice, very tender, and the potatoes were incredibly good. Now the sauce was sooo good, I started eating it by the spoon once it landed on the table. Idea is to spread it on your meat and or dip it your potatoes. YUM. Heavy but very YUM

The food is ok, huge portions, if hungry the schnitzel makes up in quantity what it lacks in quality. apfelwine is plentiful, other drinks are sparse. If you want a nice schnitzel meal with quality meat and the cranberry sauce do not come here, go to an Austrian place. Be prepared that you share a table, and it is loud, but that’s part of the charm. Service is better than in most similar places. Try the calvado w. mispfel drink after your meal, it’s a drink and a dessert in one

Probably one of the rudest waiters and worst dining I’ve ever experienced in my life.
The stage was set when we walked in and two waiters (one of which ended up being ours) were in a loud verbal argument right at the entrance of the restaurant, in front of lots of diners. Once our group sat down, our waiter proceeded to be one of the rudest people, let alone someone who works in service, I’ve ever come across.
It was as if we were infringing on his pleasant night experience by being customers there. He berated and somehow scolded us during our order, slammed dishes down on our table, took things away before people were finished, and ignored us when we wanted the bill.
It was so bad, that a good-​humored waiter had to come by several times to try and joke with us about his colleague being stressed. That same waiter tried to calm his colleague but ended up fighting with him just as we’d seen at the entrance.
I’ve always gone to Zum Gemalten Haus, next door, because I’d heard about experiences like this. We went because of a farewell meal for a colleague and all these rumors were basically confirmed — and then some. On top of that, the food was bad, served cold and not corrected. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone.
Do yourself a favor and try Zum Gemalten Haus.

Tja, da freut man sich auf eine traditionelles Frankfurter Essen und ging einigen Empfehlungen nach. Die Speisekarte las sich noch sehr gut, aber was dann auf dem Teller kam, war weder mit Liebe angerichtet, noch entsprach es meiner Geschmacksvorstellung. Es bot sich für mich als reine Touristen Massenabfertigung dar. Erwähnt sei noch die schöné und geschmackvolle Einrichtung, die original und typisch für ein altertümliches Frankfurter Apfelweinlokal war.

Like others said here, this place is very crowded and loud at times and if this is the case, you WILL share a table with others, but so what? Apart from this, I love how Hessian this place is. From the Apfelwein to the green sauce and potatoes, this is a top spot for me here in Frankfurt. Prices are reasonable and the portions are huge. Very worth it. And the Bembels everywhere are so cute, it makes it seem even more Hessian than what it already is.
All the bad reviews are most likely from Americans who are used to getting their ass kissed and go by «the customer is always right» in the States, and since Germany doesn’t do that, they’re butthurt by that. The world doesn’t revolve around you!

Schon ganz schön da mein reinzugehen, aber die Bedienung ist nicht ganz freundlich und die Portionen recht klein. Die Erfahrung war eher wie eine Abfertigung der Gäste.
Fleisch mit grüner Soße war jedoch echt gut. Gutes Fleisch!

Ich Liebe den Wagner da ich Sachsenhauserin bin ist es natürlich das mann den Wagner kennt ich liebe den Handkäse mit Musik (mit Zwiebeln) ich könnte mich reinlegen auch der Biergarten ist super das Puplikum ist sehr angenehm und gemischt mann fühlt sich wie zu Hause.

Ziemlich gehypte Lokalität im Herzen Sachsenhausens. Ich würde behaupten, dass es eine typische Touri-​Lokalität ist.
Im Grunde unterscheidet das Wagner sich nicht großartig von anderen Angeboten in FFM-​Sachsenhausen.
Das Interieur und der Wintergarten lassen das Ganze etwas edler wirken als die übrigen urigen Lokale.
Von der Karte her keine Besonderheiten.
Das Essen ist bodenständig und lecker, der Apfelwein fließt in großen Mengen.
An die forsche-​ruppige Art der Servicekräfte gewöhnt man sich auch schnell.
Süß gespritzte («Offebacher») werden nicht gern gesehen ;)

Institutionen zu beschreiben ist ein schwieriges Unterfangen. 3000 Jahre Tradition, in 456 Führern von Lonely Planet bis zu ‘wo der Fliegenfischer schlemmt’ ist der Wagner ja gelistet. Von allen Stadtmagazinen, Rundfunk– und Fernsehanstalten gewürdigt.
Was soll ich da noch zu sagen?
Kannst ja Dein Maul halten — wäre eine Frangforder Antwort.
Abber geht dess?
Jedenfalls hatte ich einen lustigen Abend. traf meinen engsten Blutsverwandten ohne Absprache, fernerhin den Wagnerschen Weinlieferanten — was zu einem intensiven Gespräch über den Weinbau im allgemeinen und in Rheinhessen im Besonderen, führte und zur Kommunikation mit einem indisch/​deutschen Pärchen, dem ich ein paar ebbelwoispezifische Tipps, einschliesslich einer Runde Mispelchen mitgeben konnte.
Nebenbei war mein Hackbraten und der Schobbe lecker. Und genau DAS alles ist es, was einen Abend bei dieser Institution so einzigartig macht.
Beim Hinausgehen kamen mir etwa 325 Japaner/​innen mit gezückten Handysticks, verklärten Blicken und ‘Oh my god’ Ausrufen (auf japanisch) entgegen.
Gutes Timing!

Das Wagner ist ein uriges Kneipenrestaurant direkt im Herzen Frankfurts: In Sachsenhausen. Da es so typisch bürgerlich Deutsch ist, findet man hier viele Touristen. Man brauch nicht zu reservieren, denn man findet eigentlich immer einen Platz. Aber bitte keine Ruhe und Zweisamkeit erwarten, denn es kommt nicht selten vor, dass man an einen großen Tisch mit 10 weiteren Gästen gesetzt wird. Die Atmosphäre ähnelt einem Bierzelt. Allerdings geht man auch genau dafür hin und das macht es so charmant. Das Essen ist bürgerlich mit Schnitzel, Pommes, Grüner Soße, Bratkartoffeln usw. Für Salat-​Liebhaber wie ich einer bin ist die Auswahl leider nicht groß. Dafür gibt es einen Krug Apfelwein und der ist auch immer leer.
Minuspunkt ist das sehr unfreundliche Personal.

Das Auftreten des Service ist leider immer häufiger unfreundlich und unaufmerksam. Nachfragen werden oft sehr pampig beantwortet.
Das Essen ist für eine Apfelweinwirtschaft ok und die Portionsgrößen sind absolut in Ordnung.

Great food. Bad service. Decent prices.
Visited the restaurant on my birthday and wanted to give it 5 stars for the food, but could not look past the mediocre (and that’s being generous) service. Server took a long time to take our initial order and then made us feel rushed thereafter; didn’t show any desire to assist in our ordering process, and was generally curt (while some may say that’s a German thing, but I disagree).
The restaurant has 2 outdoor section — garden in the back and curbside patio in the front of the house — and is very charming.
We ordered apple wine (which was enjoyable enough but definitely an acquired taste if one is to love it), pork schnitzel with green sauce and home fried potatoes (their specialty) which was the best schnitzel I’ve ever had, and hand made klass (cheese with onions, vinegar, and paprika), which I didn’t have a taste for. Cannot give enough praise for the green sauce.
Overall an average experience which could have been way better if not for feeling rushed. It took us an hour to get here and it was going to be the only meal we were having in Frankfurt, so wanted to love it.
Also, I did have to find and fetch a high chair for my daughter myself, since the wait staff wasn’t willing to do it. They just pointed me in the direction of the chair.

Apfelwein Wagner. Eine klassische Apfelweinwirtschaft. Schoppe, Bembel und Grüné Sosse — alles Super! Die Lautstärke ist aber sehr hoch und die Bedienung braucht teilweise ewig. Viele Touristen!

So I’m no authority on German schnitzel. All I can say is that I’ve tried some of the schnitzel we have in New York, and it’s all right, but I told myself I don’t really need to try it again.
Then I ended up stuck in Frankfurt due to visa issues on a business trip. I booked an airbnb and the super friendly host Jerry told me I had to try some schnitzel while I’m here! I was like, okay, sure — lets see what you’ve got.
Hands down the BEST FREAKIN’ SCHNITZEL I’ve ever had, and I will be searching for something equivalent in New York from now on. I don’t know why, but the New York schnitzel just made me think bready and crusty and kinda dry. This was soft and juicy on the inside, and still a little crisp on the outside, and EVERYTHING was delicious! The potatoes have a nice garlic and herb mix, and were soft on the inside with a little caramelization on the outside. The cutlet with the mushrooms and gravy was heavenly. We had a giant jug of apfelvine cider that helped cut and balance the heavy meal too. Spot on.
The flavors in the cutlet and the potatoes gave my stomach a warm and cozy craving for the sort of home food you imagine in European fairy tales. Heavy but soooo satisfying and portions were really solid (when compared to NY). Absolutely coming back if I’m ever stuck in Frankfurt again.
Why four stars? Because I can’t justify a five star rating if I haven’t at least tried schnitzel at a few different places, but boy this is way beyond the schnitzel in New York!

War nun zwei mal hier. Beim erstem Mal war das Essen in Ordnung, der Service allerdings hektisch und unaufmerksam. Beim zweiten Mal katastrophaler Service. Wünsche wie «Salat ohne Zwiebel» und ähnliches wurden komplett ignoriert, zwei Mal den selben Salat bestellt und unterschiedliches bekommen, Kartoffeln versalzen, Teller verschmiert angerichtet. Das Essen kam nicht zeitgleich an sodass einige schon fertig waren. Insgesamt alles sehr lieblos und mit scheißegal Einstellung. Keine Nachfrage ob es geschmeckt hat. Danke nächstes Mal woanders.

Das Lokal war Rappelvoll, es ist wohl eine Touristenattraktion in Sachsenhausen.
Der Service war unfreundlich, das Essen maximal Durchschnittlich, die Portionsgröße war in Ordnung.
Parken mit Auto sehr schwierig in den Anliegerstrassen.

Das Essen war ein Reinfall, bestellt wurde gegrillt rippchen mit gebuttertem Kartoffelstampf und Sauerkraut. Bekommen habe ich eine arT Koteletts. Der Wirt wies mich erst in der Folge darauf hin, daß rippchen leiterchen heißt… Das konnte ich noch verkraften, aber der Kartoffelstampf entpuppte sich als das allerbilligste Tüten Püree, wie man es in jeder billig mensa bekommt, sowie das Sauerkraut mit Zitrone gestreckt, null Geschmack nur sauer. Bei einem vom Wirt als lange traditionswirtschaft angeprieses Restaurant. Ist das mehr als nur eine Zumutung. NIE WIEDER!

Vorweg: Unilocal müsste mich in diesem Fall wegen Befangenheit aussteuern in die «nicht empfohlenen Beiträge»!
29 Jahre in dieser Gegend gewohnt. Wagner hatte immer einen guten Ruf. Touristisch (ist doch in Ordnung), stets mit gehisster Eintracht-​Fahne. Anlaufpunkt für jung und alt.
Ende der 80er haben wir das Haus gemieden, weil wir mal mitkriegten, wie Kellner «sich ausließen», um einen Zechpreller hinauszutreten.
Doch wieder hingegangen, weil die Qualität gut war. Und die Lage sowieso. Und meine Großeltern dort schon ihre Schoppen nahmen und deren einzige Mahlzeit am Tag von den «Goodies» des Brezelmanns abhing (der darf immer noch rumgehen, obwohl die meisten Gäste doch aufgrund des reichlichen Angebots satt sein müßten).
Einige meiner Sachsehäuser Freunde (die seit Jahren auswärts leben, z.B. Malente, Berlin etc.) wollen mit mir ausschließlich zum Wagner. Aus guter Erinnerung. Und Tradition.
Natürlich war ich gerne wieder dabei. Auch wenn die (Rinder-)Zunge auf der Karte fehlt. Und (manchmal) das Bier (vollstes Verständnis von mir).
Ich weiß aber, dass aktuell die liebenswertesten Menschen dieses Haus betreiben.
Ebendarum schreibe ich nicht mehr und würde daher sogar eine eventuelle Aussteuerung verstehen.

Eigentlich verbietet es sich für Auswärtige, regionale Institutionen mit normalen Maßstäben zu beurteilen. Apfelwein Wagner ist so eine altehrwürdige frankfurter Äppelwoi-​Wirtschaft mit deftiger regionspezifischer Küche.
Eine freundliche Frankfurterin hat uns beim Übersetzen der Speisekarte geholfen.: Schäufelchen sind Rippchen und Leiterchen irgendwie auch.
Da uns diese Erklärung nicht vollends überzeugte, haben wir Frankfurter Würstchen mit Kraut und Hackbraten mit verkohlten Kartoffelecken bestellt.
Die Getränkebestellung verlief einfacher — mangels Auswahl. :Apfelwein. Bier gibt es hier nicht! Über das Essen möchte ich mich gar vertiefen, aber es hat verwundert, dass man Apfelwein lauwarm trinkt.
Der freundliche Mitarbeiter, der uns bediente, war in einer weißen Jacke gekleidet. Andere Länder, andere Sitten, möchte man meinen. Im Rheinland laufen allenfalls altmodische Seniorenfrisöre (Rentnerkränzchen waschen, suchen, schneiden 10 Euro) in dieser Verkleidung herum. Ansonsten empfand ich dieses Restaurant in Sachsenhausen typisch, ursprünglich, original und deshalb allein schon empfehlenswert.

Super rude service!!! If you are visiting from out of town stay the hell away. This place is what gives the reputation that Germans are not friendly.
We came in here because we heard great things about it in Trip Advisor and blog sites. I’m not sure what they were experiencing but definitely not we experienced. I am deeply disappointed that this place got so high reviews especially when the service was so rude.
When we came in, all the servers/​waiters were running around with their heads chopped off. I get it that the place was packed and they are busy but all they need to do was spend 2 seconds to tell people that either find an open spot or you need to reserve ahead of time. We got one person telling us to wait at the bar and another telling us to look for an open spot.
So off we went looking for a spot when the first server/​waiter literally yelled at us to wait at the bar. For what? Waiting for a number or the apocalypse, because they didn’t give us a number or took down names in any order. Even if they were serving liquid gold in their damn apple wine I don’t think they should treat anyone that way. This definitely left a very sour taste and a bad impression on my trip in Germany.
So let me be blunt again, STAY THE HELL AWAY from this place. I will definitely leave a review or comment where ever I can to correctly represent the reality of this place.

Honestly, if I could give this Apfelwein Wagner no stars, I would. This place is not friendly to tourists. I hate to write negative reviews, but if it helps anyone visiting Frankfurt to avoid a bad dining experience, I’m all for it.
The service was horrible and the waiters were extremely rude. Unfortunately, it’s not worth it to try Frankfurt’s apple wine if this is the service that accompanies it. Besides the fact that the apple wine in general wasn’t particularly good, this place is chaotic and the staff were extremely unfriendly.
My friend and I heard that this place might be good to taste apple wine for dinner. It was a busier night, however, when we came into the restaurant, no waiters acknowledged us. We saw plenty of them, but they were so unorganized.
I politely asked a question to several waiters (should I put my name down on a waitlist or is it first come/​first serve?), but all I got back was rude, blank stares and them ignoring us like they didn’t have the time of day.
The wait staff made me feel like I was bothering them, and one older male waiter even yelled at me for asking for more clarification. One of the younger waiters tried to apologize (with a look) for the older waiter’s aggressive behavior, but by that time, my night was ruined. Who wants to dine at a place where you feel like a second class citizen? I certainly don’t.
It’s sad overall, because I was so excited to try this place out after reading some reviews. This restaurant, if you can call it that, single handedly put me in a bad mood for the rest of the night. I recommend spending your time and money elsewhere.

Die Apfelweinwirtschaft am Schweizer Platz! Oft von Touristen frequentiert lässt sie aber auch alt Eingesessene Frankfurter Herzen höher schlagen. Der hauseigene Apfelwein schmeckt sauer (mit Mineralwasser) gespritzt einfach herrlich und der Wintergarten lädt im Sommer zum Verweilen ein! Das Frankfurter Schnitzel mit grüner soße ist einfach sehr lecker. Ebenso ist der Handkäse mit Musik sehr zu empfehlen! Der Service ist prompt und typisch hessisch maulig, einfach ein Original.

I’m not a huge fan of apfelwein (Apple wine) but I tried it and its unique. Pairs well with the flavors of the meal but I was craving a beer so that’s part of my 3 star rating.
Dinner was good, its loud and I loved it. Great feel, friendly. Unique. They have an English menu which is helpful.
Its a shared table experience which is unique and worth the experience to meet new people even if its just a nod hello as you join them at their table.

Sorry, I’am no fan of Apfeilwein Wanger. What I see in this place: showing tourists what Frankfurt can be.
What I experienced there: You can have a good applewine, thats for sure. But if you want to have a nice chat with your friends, this place can be too loud. And this place is also always very crowded. So far I’ve only seen waiters/​waitresses, who have been in a totally hurry and busy. So dont expect to much service-​wise. If you want a real dinner, go somewhere else. You’ll get some small pieces of traditional food, but nothing that really satisfies a big hunger. Also dont go there, if you have a non-​alcoholic in your group.
But this can be your place, if you are a loud group of people, who is looking for a place to drink some apple vine after dinner.

Aua! Die Ignoranz der Kellner hat richtig weg getan — ich wollte nur was Essen! Nachdem ich 10 min lang ignoriert wurde — Kellner gingen an mir vorbei und ignorierten mich — ging ich raus — NIE WIEDER

Tja, zum Essen kann ich leider nichts sagen, es kam gar nicht dazu, dass wir das testen konnten.
Wir haben zur Mittagszeit das Restaurant betreten, außer uns (2 Personen) waren nur wenige Tische besetzt, die anwesenden Kellner also nicht im Stress. Eine Begrüßung durch das Personal blieb dennoch aus. Unser Umschauen nach einem Tisch bzw. nach einem Kellner, der uns einen solchen zuweisen würde, wurde geflissentlich ignoriert, also haben wir einen der freien Tische in der Mitte des Raumes ausgesucht.
Auch dort wurde unsere Anwesenheit vollständig ignoriert, keine Begrüßung, keine Frage, ob wir schon was trinken wollen …
Nach kurzer Konsultation der Speisekarte wurde der Tisch neben uns von einem älteren Paar besetzt, die von dem vorher teilnahmslos an unserem Tisch vorbei laufenden Kellner sogleich begrüßt wurden, der sofort die Bestellung aufnahm und nach nur wenigen Minuten das Essen brachte. Unser Tisch schien weiterhin im Niemandsland zu stehen — keiner Kellner schien dafür zuständig zu sein, auch nicht der, der den Tisch neben uns so vorbildlich bedient und dort ein kleines Schwätzchen gehalten hatte.
Als er dann zum wiederholten Male wort– und blicklos an uns vorüber ging um seinem Kollegen zu helfen, der eine reklamierte Bestellung zurück gehen lassen musste, war uns klar, dass wir besser woanders unser Glück versuchen sollten. Auch unser deutlich misslauniger Aufbruch provozierte keine Aufmerksamkeit bei der Belegschaft.
Zur Ergänzung: als Rheinländer, der mit dem zuweilen etwas ruppigen Charme kölscher Köbesse gut und gerne zurecht kommt, erfreue ich mich auch an dem durchaus ähnlichen Charme der Kellner in Frankfurter Apfelweingaststätten. Aber so offensichtlich und ohne erkennbaren Grund (nein, wir leiden nicht unter eitrigem Ausschlag, Masern oder Windpocken) ignoriert zu werden ist schlicht eine Unverschämtheit.
Unseren Plan, in der Gaststätte Wagner das Abendessen für die Teilnehmer einer größeren internationalen Tagung auszurichten, haben wir nach der Erfahrung natürlich auch aufgegeben — über den Auftrag darf sich nun ein anderer Wirt freuen.

Wieso sind meine zwei geliebten Deutsche Restaurants genau nebeneinander? Das ist dann wirklich die Qual der Wahl, denn Apfelwein Wagner ist genau neben dem Gemalten Haus!
Um in Dribbdebach gut bürgerlich zu essen mit viieeeel Grüner Soße, außen knusprig aber innen zarte Bratkartoffeln, ob Worscht oder Haxe: hier wird der Hunger gestillt. Der Äppler ist selbstverständlich sehr lecker! Das Essen schmilzt und zergeht auf der Zunge; ein Traum der gutbürgerlichen Variante!
Die Bedienung ist, wie es sich in einer Apfelweinkneipe auch gehört: Hessisch, hektisch aber großzügig und recht freundlich.
Die Kneipe ist fast immer voll aus einer Mischung von Touristen, Reisenden aus anderen Städten Deutschlands und Frankfurtern. Je voller desto höher ist natürlich auch der Lärmpegel aber auch umso enger werden die Sitzplätze. Die Person am Nachbartisch kann dann schon einem ins Ohr was brüllen während man selber versucht seinem Tisch was zu erzählen. Das ist ein Teil vom Charm von Apfelweinkneipen, oder etwa nicht? Je mehr Äppler man in sich hat, umso lauter wird man ja natürlich…ist ja klar! :-)

We were staying in Frankfurt a few nights on our way to Africa and wanted to make sure to get some Apfelwein during our stay. We walked from our hotel by the train station to Wagner and were not disappointed. We being cider and beer fans thought the apfelwein was great (and Wagner’s was definitely better than the Possmann’s we had at the river festival tent). We ended up going there two days in a row during lunch time to enjoy the patio seating and tucked away vibe. The food was also tasty as we sampled the handkäse (tasty! and perfect with the apfelwein), as well as some sausage, a pork chop and a schnitzel. The servers were also nice in dealing with some american tourists.

This place I picked on a random recommendation from a guest in my hotel was definitely a good deal.
Taking 6 people from 4 countries there, we enjoyed plain traditional german dinner there with apple wine and grilled meat of all kind. Actually the waiter brought us a pile of food that was so huge that people walking by stopped and took pictures of it. The meal was tasty (Frankfurter Platte) and with everything included we had to pay 25 € each. Very good deal with a kind service and a waiter that made good jokes.
The decoration of the restaurant is traditional and worth a pic. Quite traditional with wooden walls and banks where groups can sit down. Not too lound and a nice terrace too.
If I’m back to Frankfurt some day, I’ll have to give it another try, definitely.

Das Wagner ist eine feste Größe in Frankfurt in hat eine Menge Tradition. Das Essen ist gut, die Atmosphäre auch und es liegt ein Lokal-​Internationaler Charme in der Luft. Wer im Wagner essen geht, der sollte allerdings zwei Dinge wissen: Erstens gibt es hier kein Bier und zweitens ist das Servicepersonal unfreundlich, teilweise sogar unverschämt.
Nachdem ich einmal angeschnauzt wurde, dass ich mich mit einer Freundin einfach an einen freien Platz setzen wollte, habe ich beim letzten Mal geduldig am Eingang gewartet. Ich wurde zwar nicht gefragt, ob wir zu zwei seien, oder ob wir essen möchten, ABER ich wurde zweimal angefahren, dass ich mal zur Seite gehen soll. Wir wurden an einen Tisch gesetzt, an denen schon drei Männer saßen und die Kiste war ziemlich eng, aber gut — das ist eben der Charme. Als die drei allerdings gingen und meine Freundin kurz auf der Toilette war, setzte der Kellner vier neue Personen und ignorierte meinen Einwand, dass hier ja noch jemand säße. Als sie wieder kam, hatte sie absolut keinen Platz mehr zu sitzen, sodass wir dann gegangen sind… bezahlt hatten wir schon und waren damit offensichtlich nicht mehr erwünscht.
Das Essen und das Preis-​Leistungsverhältnis sowie die Atmosphäre machen die drei Sterne aus, allerdings ist der Service extrem Tagesform abhängig.

Touristy, but I love it anyway. The food isn’t bad either. Get some Applewine. Go for a bembel if you’re brave.

One of my faves in Frankfurt… can’t go wrong here… give it a try and enjoy the Applewine… Frankfurt is about that drink… not beer… food is great and reasonably priced… try a apple schnapps shot, not to be confused with the weak American version of schnapps…

Die Apfelweinwirtschaft Wagner ist in jedem Touristenführer drin und sollte nicht verpasst werden. Klar, das lokal ist touristisch, aber trotzdem gut. Wir haben da drin auch ein paar ‘locals’ getroffen und uns wirklich toll mit denen unterhalten.
Aber als erstes mal eine Warnung an alle Bier-​Liebhaber: HIER GIBT ES NUR APFELWEIN UND KEIN BIER!!!
Obwohl ich so Zeug normalerweise nicht mag sollte man sich schon durchringen und einen probieren. Und zum deftigen Essen hier passt der Apfelwein dann auch ganz gut. Bestellt wird der in so genannten Bempel (Krug) — die Nummer (also z. B: 4,8,21) indiziert die Anzahl Gläser die man damit füllen kann.
Das Essen ist sehr rustikal und deftig — Schlachtplatten, viel Fleisch, Käse mit Musik etc. Alles was Hessen an gut bürgerlicher Küche zu bieten hat findet man hier auf der Karte.
Das Personal war freundlich, zurückhaltend, hatte dann aber im richtigen Moment einen Spruch oder einen Spass auf Lager. Das Lokal ist jetzt nichts besonderes aber trotzdem urchig gemütlich. Die Toiletten im ehemaligen Keller mit den rauen Wänden und gebogenen Decken sind da schon viel stylisher ;)

Bei Wagner hatte ich gestern zum ersten Mal Apfelwein getrunken bzw. probiert. Wollte den nicht pur trinken und hatten den süß gespritzt bestellt, aber die Bedienung entgegnete uns dann mit also zweimal Schoppe und einmal Fanta haha (wusste nicht ganz ob ich das als unfreundlich werten sollte), okay den musste ich mir dann am Tisch selbst mixen. Pur hat mir der Apfelwein nicht ganz so geschmeckt, aber mit Limonade gemischt, war es durchaus gut. Wir saßen im Garten etwas ungünstig, da hat es etwas streng gerochen, aber ansonsten fand ich es hier von der Atmosphäre ganz angenehm. Gegessen habe ich nichts, werde ich bestimmt aber mal irgendwann machen.

Great 5 meat platter here. Perfect for a table of 4. I’m not a big Apfelwein drinker, but it seemed pretty good. Wish they had at least 1 BEER! Dang! I mean it’s germany. I like that the staff was super rude. Our waiter made a great recommendation on food, but you could tell he didn’t have time to waste on talking to tourists. =o) Ha ha… I still give them good marks for good meat and sour kraut!

I was in Frankfurt for the Ambiente decoration fair and this place was recommended by the hotel staff as a «true german restaurant».
Well, it is true, you eat all german food (all king of pork, schnietzel…). However, this restaurant take advantage of the exhibition to ripp off tourists.
The waiter «parked» us on a table for 8 (though we were only 3) with 4 other people we didn’t know. Served us a HUGE pitcher of AppleWein (that was suppose to be for 8 too) though we only asked 1 glass each. Brought us a bottled water though we didn’t ask (and charged us with it though we didn’t open it).
The food was okay. DO NOT DRINK the so famous applewein. It taste like rancid cider and will give you a headache! And the service was SO bad, that it doesn’t deserve more than 1 star. And if Zero had existed, it would have gotten 0

First of all I had great fun here, but also a bit the kind of fun you get when you see tourists in Holland walking in wooden shoes (which obviously Dutch will definitely not wear). Are there just tourist in this restaurant?
To me this felt like a great typical German experience with great schnitzel, kartoffelen and bratwurst. I really enjoyed the food and the loud atmosphere.
They serve some typical apfelwein (a kind of fermented apple juice drink with alcohol) which I drank quite some of and at the end I think I started to like it :-)
I am not sure whether locals from Frankfurt would really like to promote their city with this restaurant but I think they definitely take there foreign friends there at least once because you get this typical experience in this restaurant.
Actually the staff was not friendly at all (but very efficient) and this also feels like it is part of the ‘concept’ and they don’t sell beer which I find strange and not typical German at all.

‘Be
careful there is no bear’ an online tip for this place warned me. While I was
busy wondering how this fact might lead to more caution on my part I discovered
the completely unrelated absence of any beers on the menu. So Apfelwein then?
Unfortunately unlike Beer (and indeed Bear) free pubs I have enjoyed before,
such as the wonderful Cider bar in Newton Abbot (
), this bar only served the one
cider.their own. While this served me perfectly well for a short visit, I’d
crave some more variety if staying much longer.

If you come to Frankfurt, you must go here. It’s that simple. Everyone that I’ve spoken to in my two weeks here has either recommended Wagner’s or praised me for coming here. Our first trip was with some local colleagues and we were blown away by the pork shoulder, schnitzel, homestyle potatoes, green sauce, and of course, the apfelwein. The menu is simple and highlights the traditional dishes of Frankfurt. A word of advice: get a big bemble of apfelwein, it saves the trouble of having to order more than one when sharing with neighbors.
Be ready to cozy up and meet your neighbors, because in our experience, you’ll be doing shots with them by the end of the night (language barrier notwithstanding). This place was so good and so much fun that we came back two nights in a row, and even considered it the third night. A definite must-​see for any visitor to Frankfurt.

Étonnamment un des rares restaurants où manger la fameuse Frankfürter Schnitzel mit grüner Sauce dans la capitale économique allemande. Longues tables, c’est convivial et l’ambiance est sympa!
