Ich mag den Laden einfach: gemütlich ausgestattet, sehr freundliches Personal und eine Bücherecke, wo man mal in aller Ruhe schmökern kann.
Cupcakes und Kuchen finde ich sehr lecker– man schmeckt nicht, dass es vegan ist ;-)
Auch vom ersten Soja-​Kakao meines Lebens war ich –vorher noch skeptisch– angenehm überrascht. Er wurde mit frischer Schokolade gemacht– da hätte die Tasse gerne größer sein dürfen :-)
Auch die veganen Spaghetti Bolognese waren tadellos; mitnehmen war auch kein Problem.
Die Preise sind dafür in Ordnung. Der Kuchen ist mit 3, 50 € allerdings etwas teuer. Aber ich kann auch nicht beurteilen, ob die Zutaten diesen Preis rechtfertigen.
Mittagessen und Getränk waren in normaler Preislage.
Ich komme bald wieder, vielleicht auch mal zum Brunch.

Zweimal da gewesen, beidemale enttäuscht worden. Bei fast leerem Laden muss man 10 minuten auf sein Bier warten, welches dann schaal serviert wird…
Vielleicht sollte man das von der Karte nehmen und nur noch Sojamilch verkaufen!

Wir hatten den Eindruck, dass es Trittbrettfahrer sind, da VEGAN ja derzeit so in ist! Der Kaffee war der schlechteste, den ich jemals hatte, hab ihn stehenlassen. Meiner Freundin war danach so schlecht, dass sie sich übergeben hat. Interieur sehr nett, shabbymäßig innen. Essensangebot defintiv zu wenig, leider!

Awesome cupcakes and incredibly all vegan! We didn’t stay to eat, so I can’t say much about the service, but the place looked nice and cozy. We’ll definitely be back for a longer stay the next time. Maybe even for the popular Saturday brunch

Leckre Cupcakes, guter Kaffee, gemütliches Flair.
Rundum eine nette Location für ein Kaffeepäuschen.
Die Auswahl ist übersichtlich aber gut.
Das Frühstück hingegen leider etwas simpel & geschmacklich keine Besonderheit. Einzig besonders ist hier lediglich, dass alles vegan ist.
Tee stammt von Alnatura & Frühstücksmenüs (süß, herzhaft oder gesund) sind sehr übersichtlich. Brötchen leider etwas fad und nicht immer frisch.
Die Cupcakes hingegen sehr schön anzusehen und lecker. Auch wenn sie etwas klein ausfallen mehr als genug (und weniger Kalorien ;))
Leider wird vieles durch Soja ersetzt & es gibt kein Angebot für «halbe» Vegetarier; daher werden wir hier wohl nicht mehr zum Frühstück hinkommen, da manch einer zumindest gerne mal ein Ei isst oder richtige Milch in den Kaffee will.
Für einen Cupcake kann man aber gerne mal einkehren :)
PS: ich persönlich begrüße das erweiterte vegane Angebot, würde mich aber auf gesündere Alternativen zu Soja freuen.

We visited Bonn’s first (and only) vegan restaurant for lunch on its opening day. Mae’s is located on a small side street bordering Sudstadt and Poppelsdorf. The interior is clean and crisp, with homey white wooden tables and chairs, dark wood bar, and Parisian-​esque decorative accents.
We were lucky to arrive when we did, as about 30 minutes later the place filled up and several people left due to lack of seating.
The service was friendly, but a bit chaotic — I’m not sure the two servers were prepared for the opening day crowd. We were offered a complimentary glass of Sekt (champagne), which made the delays a bit more bearable.
For lunch, I had potato soup and the mushroom quiche. My husband had the tomato and vegan mozzarella sandwich. The portion sizes were good for the price.
The soup was nice and hearty, with good flavor. I was surprised, at first, to find sausage inside… but then remembered that it was meatless sausage! The mushroom quiche was nice… but if was served cold. Not even lukewarm — just cold. That might be okay for some quiches, but cold mushrooms and leeks have a rather off-​putting texture, in my opinion. Had it been warm, I would guess that it would’ve been outstanding.
My husband’s sandwich was made from an interesting bread… it almost looked braided, like a Challah. The bread was soft and tasty, but the form made it difficult to eat. The tomato, vegan mozzarella, and rucola were good, but not out of the ordinary.
Unfortunately, dessert was a big disappointment. Based on the menu, it appeared that Mae’s specializes in cupcakes, so we decided to order one, along with a brownie.
Strangely, the cost for a cupcake and the cost for the cupcake’s frosting were listed separately. I appreciate the build-​your-​own idea, but why can’t I just pay 2,50 € and get whatever I want without referencing the price per part? This was just an unnecessary complication. The cupcake itself was also a disappointment. We ordered a nut cupcake with vanilla frosting. The frosting looked beautiful, like a buttercream style, but the flavor and mouthfeel were not appealing. It was «frothy», like whipped cream, but tasted and felt oily. The flavor of the cupcake was good, nutty with a bit of cinnamony spice, but again, the mouthfeel was very heavy and oily. I know that vegan pastries can be VERY challenging to make, so I’m hopeful theirs will improve with time and experimentation.
For now, I’ll give it 3 stars, but we’ll definitely visit again to try other menu items. Watch for an updated review in a month or so!
