Wombats City Hostel Berlin

My friends and I stayed in a 6 Bed Mixed Dorm room (~€ 22/​person/​night) and we loved this hostel! We lucked out and everyone in the room ended up being friendly non-​snoring females. Our room was well lit, very clean, and comfortable. This hostel almost felt like a luxury hotel after our recent stay at a crappy hostel in London.
The front desk staff was super chill and friendly to us the entire time we stayed at the hostel. They also spoke almost perfect English so it was easy asking for help/​directions/​recommendations or just having a conversation.
The hostel itself is very cool and feels like a place for young adults. Pretty much everyone there was around our age (early-​mid 20s) so it was easy meeting new people. The hostel has a rooftop bar but we never got to check it out because we were too busy exploring Berlin.
Another thing I liked about Wombats City Hostel is that it’s close to some really good cafes, restaurants, and shops. My friends and I would look on Unilocal for lunch/​dinner places and we would see all these affordable restaurants with 4 or 5 star ratings within walking distance.
I cannot say enough positive things about our stay at this hostel. You won’t be disappointed!

En mis viajes solitarios, llegué a este hostal y es el mejor hostal en el que me he quedado.
Me hospedé en una habitación para 6 mujeres. El espacio está súper bien, espacioso, ventana amplia y una mesita con dos sillas al centro.
Cada cama tiene su lámpara y enchufe, además de una minimesita plegable al lado de la cama. Cada quien tiene su locker y el baño es compartido con las chicas de tu habitación.
El staff es muy amable, siempre dispuestos a ayudarte. Hay internet en todo el hostal y también puedes rentar una compu.
Si compras comida, la puedes disfrutar en las áreas comunes y hay cosas de cocina disponibles. Un día desayuné en su restaurante y quedé satisfecha.
Hay una estación de metro muy cerca y el barrio está muy bonito. En la misma calle, hay una panadería/​cafetería, un bar, una librería, un parque y tiendas de ropa.

I recently stayed at Wombats in Berlin and I was pleasantly surprised! It was my first experience at a hostel so I was quite nervous as I usually stay at regular hotels. It was very easy to locate and close to lots of shops and restaurants, as well as the metro and bus.
Everyone at the front desk was super helpful and friendly. And they all spoke English too which was comforting to someone who doesn’t know German! They have lots of tourist information and also post the daily weather report in the lobby.
The room I was given was spacious with large lockers to store my personal belongings, and a private bathroom inside the room. To get to the rooms, it was secure card access after exiting the elevator which I found a very good idea! There was free wifi access in the lobby and a nice breakfast daily also.

A fantastic hostel. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful, spoke great English, and the walls in the lobby have a lot of information helpful for the traveler. The location was pretty good; near some public transportation options.
Wombats is clean, modern, and well-​equipped. I highly recommend paying a little extra for a four-​person dorm. The rooms are spacious, with in-​room large lockers (provide your own lock), and ensuite bathrooms that were clean, spacious, and functional. There is a small light, small ledge, and power outlet next to every bunk bed.
The rooftop bar is a terrific place. Lots of travelers and inexpensive drinks. There is an outdoor terrace to enjoy the beautiful view.

Bar au 7e étage avec terrasse ouverte avant la nuit.
Le bar pratique des tarifs tout à fait correct, mais est un peu trop bruyant.
Cuisine avec tout ce qu’il faut.
Petit déjeuner pour 3.20 dans le resto a côté.
Bref hostel parfait, je conseille.

This was the first hostel I stayed at and it was pretty great. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The entire place is decorated nicely and they have plenty of maps to help you out. It’s a fairly decent price and everything is SO CLEAN. The bar was great. In fact, we preferred to go to the hostel bar instead of others. The bar also has access to an outside sitting area and it’s a great place to meet new people. Staying at this hostel made my time in Berlin worthwhile.

I stayed at this hostel when I went to Berlin for eight days in May of 2012. The facility was simply excellent. The staff was very helpful, the rooms are clean and affordable, there is free wifi in the lobby, and they have both a kitchen so you can cook your own food AND a rooftop bar. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is traveling to Berlin and wants to stay at a nice, comfortable place on a budget.

Hostel: Zentral und freundlich! Leider etwas laut in der Nacht, daher einen Stern Abzug.
Zimmer: Sauber, modern, manche sogar mit Balkon! Wer ein Doppelzimmer mit eigenem Bad bucht, kommt weitaus günstiger weg als im Hotel!
Frühstück: Keine große Auswahl, aber alles da, was man braucht! Und für EUR 3,80 wirklich ein super Preis-​Leistungs-​Verhältnis!
Für einen Kurztrip nach Berlin unschlagbar! Gern wieder! :)

Amazing!
Very Clean. Friendly staff who know the city well and can direct you on what to check out.
Location is great. You can rent a bike for 10 Euros next door and cruise around the city. Free wifi. Cheapest happy hour of all time. 1 Euro beers. I went there by myself and ended up meeting a big crew of people during happy hour. Had a lot of fun in the city — even if the bouncers at most clubs are giant douche bags. Highly recommend this place whether you are travelling by yourself or with a group.

If you like to hang out with only Americans, Brits and Australians texting non-​stop this place is for you. The rooms are fine and it’s definitely cheap. But be cautious. We had no hot water the first night, the bar on the 7^th floor is packed with loud and wasted Americans being stupid. Breakfasts are lame (unless you really like a roll). And the folks at the reception desks can be jerks. I booked 19 people for six nights. One girl in the group lost her breakfast ticket. The reception refused to give her another. A rule is a rule, as the Germans say. Oh and the elevator broke. Hey, but it’s cheap.

****SPOILER ALERT****
There are no actual wombats at this hostel (at least none that I saw) and hopefully none were harmed during the construction of this hostel. Alright enough of the silliness. Onto a positive review!
I’ll preface this review with stating that I recently backpacked Western Europe for 7 weeks. During my trek, my girlfriend and I stayed in many different hostels, B&Bs, cheap motels etc. and Wombats was easily our favorite hostel.
Where to start? Oh, how about the friendly staff who will provide you with a map of the city? Or the rooftop bar with super cheap prices and great drink specials? Maybe you’re all about location. Perfect because Wombats is just a couple of blocks from Alexanderplatz and several other metro stops. How about a great view of the city with the infamous Fernsehturm tower as seen through the window of your (very clean) room? Maybe you want to use free WiFi downstairs in the lobby? You could also always take advantage of the free storage room to store your luggage for a short time. Maybe you want to pay a couple extra euro for a pretty decent breakfast of yogurt, cold cuts, toast, juice etc?
So as you can see I really enjoyed my stay here for all of the reasons listed above. I should also note that we came here just days before New Year’s Eve and prices were probably a little higher due to the holiday but I found that this hostel was well worth the money since it literally had everything I could have asked for. Berlin ended up being one of our favorite cities on our trip and Wombat’s most certainly added to our great experience.

Bottom line: The Wombats brand rocks the hostel scene like no other, but even so, the Berlin Wombats is a true standout as far as hostels go.
The good…
1) The 6^th-​floor apartment was ridiculously spacious for any European hotel, and it is complete with a couch, wrap-​around balcony, fridge, stove, glasses, plates, flatware, wine opener – you name it. All for less than $ 100 (US dollars) a night (in August). The best deal in all of Europe.
2) The Wombar – rooftop bar with large deck and great views of Berlin – is the reason for the quote above. Happy hour boasts drink specials that include very decent sized beers for € 1 and wines for € 1.50. Guests and staff are friendly. Everyone just wants to hang out and chat with each other. We ended up spending more time in the Wombar than we should have. Meaning: We saw less of Berlin because we were having so much fun here, we forgot to go see the city!
3) Staff – they’re friendly and helpful. They all speak perfect English, and they’re all hipsters you wish you could be more like.
4) It’s an all-​ages venue! While it’s a given that most hostels cater to the college-​age, get-​drunk-​til-​I-​puke-​on-​your-​shoes crowd, this place caters to everyone. There were guests there who were just learning to walk (and not because they had too much jäger) and others who remember where they were when JFK took that bullet. And all are equally welcome … by staff and guests alike.
5) Great location. It’s about a 5 minute walk to Alexandeplatz, and about a 10 second walk to the U2 Rose-​Luxemberg Platz stop, from which you can easily get almost anywhere in all of Berlin.
The bad…
1) It’s too awesome.
Don’t take my word for it. Book your flight. Book your Wombats room. And have a wonderful Berlin experience you’ll never forget!

I 100% ecommend this place. SSOOO clean. Staff was extreeeeeemely helpful and it was close to all the bars and the S/​U Baun.

Another hostel stay during the Euro tour– yay! Clean, in new condition, nice that they have a bar downstairs — that way you don’t have to go out to go to the bar. Small dance floor, but we were able to make it work. The staff is really nice and very informative. Free wi-​fi, close to supermarket as well as the stores.

I stayed here for 4 or 5 nights a couple months ago. It’s really clean, in great condition, and the staff is helpful and they all speak English, which, you can probably tell from the language I’m writing this in, is a perk for me.
I stated in a 6 person suite. It had a bathroom in the room, and it was cleaned every day! Also, each person gets a personal locker. The lock is hard to use at first, but once you figure it out, it’s no big deal
I highly recommend!

I really enjoyed my time at this hostel when I was in Berlin. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were able to give me all sorts of ideas for places to go for sightseeing, shopping, partying, etc.
The bottom floor has a pretty good size common area with computers and vending machines that sold drinks. The kitchen looked clean with a pretty good sized fridge, but be careful if you put your food there… My pizza was STOLEN! :(The bottom floor is is connected to a restaurant place that has a buffet breakfast that’s like 3.50EU (?) and you get an assortment of coffee, tea, juices, fruits, cold cut meats, rolls, cucumbers, tomatoes, cereals, and oatmeal. It was a pretty good deal if you didn’t want to wander outside in the cold.
I stayed in the 6 bedroom all females room and I would say I was really happy with it. It’s basically bunk beds, with a little table and short stools to sit on. We had our own bathroom-​sink, toilet, shower, and it was clean! The room was cleaned daily so everything was pretty spotless. Each bed had it’s own plug and night light which I thought was very useful. The lockers were a good size and could fit a carry-​on luggage. The lock is operated by your room key and so it was very secure.
On the rooftop there is a bar where there were crazy drink specials from 6−8pm and 11−12am. 4 Jäger bombs for 10EU!!! Not to mention pitchers of beers and mixed drinks for very reasonable prices. There’s also a bucket hanging behind the bar on top of a doorway and if you are able to toss 1EU in it you get 3 shots of whatever you want. I pre-​partied there every night before I went out since it was such a good deal. There’s also a TV, pool table, and outside smoking area up there. It got pretty rowdy most of the time!
The last thing I would mention about this hostel is the location. It was close to the U-​bahn and there’s lots of shops, food places, etc around the area so it’s easy to navigate. It’s def worth the price!

I didn’t participate in any of the stuff while I stayed at Wombat. I needed a bed and bathroom and that is what I got and used. Had it been sunny, I probably would have been more inclined to use the kitchenette and balcony seating in my apartment.
I did go to the Wombar which served its purpose to be a hang out place for its guests. There is a patio area, billiards in the back (I think), and plenty of sitting room.
A word of caution for other Americans, their Nacho and Salsa is not what we consider nacho and salsa. We received dorito nacho flavored chips and sweet ketchup. My brother wasn’t very pleased. I asked a friend who said this is what nacho and salsa means for hostels — who knows!

Das Wombats Hostel ist eine Hommage an John, den die zwei Wombats Hostel Gründer aus Wien in Melborne kennenlernen durften.
John war verrückt nach Wombats, diesen kleinen Beutelsäuger, deswegen hatte er auch 6 Wombats zu Hause gehabt.
Sein Traum war es ein eigenes Hostel zu haben mit dem Namen «wombats Backpackers».
Leider konnte sich John diesen Traum nicht mehr erfüllen, da er kurz danach bei einem Unfall umgekommen ist.
Also beschlossen die Gründer Marcus und Sascha einige Jahr später seinen Traum zu leben und eröffneten ihr erstes Hostel in Wien, mit dem Namen Wombats Hostel. Nun gibt es schon drei Wombats Hostels, es ist eins in München und eins in Berlin dazu gekommen.
Das Wombats Hostel hat den Nerv der Hostel Zukunft genau getroffen und bietet eine Kombination aus Allround– Komfort, aber mit Partybar an.
Das Konzept zieht internationale Backpackers an und befriedigt die jungen Trendsetter damit.
Die Mitarbeiter sind selbst viel gereist und haben Spaß daran ihre Reise Erfahrungen mit den Gästen zu teilen.
Tolles Konzept, zu moderaten Preisen mit Partyspaßfaktor.

Ich kenne das Wombats nicht als Schlafgast, sondern von einer Fotostrecke die wir in der Sky Bar im 7. Stock produziert haben. Besonders erwähnenswert ist der tolle Blick von der Terrasse. Man schaut in zwei Richtungen, die eine in altem, romatischem Flair, die andere urban und modern, das erzeugt eine spezielle Stimmung.
Zu den Zimmern kann ich nichts sagen da ich die nicht betreten habe. Die Stimmung im Hostel war gut, später am nachmittag kamen auch einige der Gäste, allesamt sehr jung und aufgeschlossen.
Die Leute an der Rezeption waren sehr aufgeschlossen und hilfsbereit.

Nun gut, ich muss mich hier auf die Aussagen anderer stützen (ich denke jeder versteht, dass ich als Berlinerin, es vorziehe in meinem eigenem Bett zu schlafen). Das mag etwas gefährlich sein. Auf der anderen Seite können so viele Lobgesänge nicht aus der Luft gegriffen sein.
Das Wombats liegt in Mitte, was für ein Hostel schon mal ein toller Ausgangspunkt ist. Die Preise sind für die Lage total in Ordnung, ich bezweifel, dass man dort in der Nähe billiger unterkommen kann.
Es gibt eine Hotelbar auf dem Dach, die 2 Happy Hours hat, einmal von 20 – 21 Uhr und dann nochmal von 23 – 24 Uhr. Man muss also keine Angst haben, dass man dort auf dem trockenem sitzt. Das elende Geschmuggel von Getränken aufs Hostelzimmer erübrigt sich damit auch, hurra!
Apropos Zimmer, die meisten sind natürlich Mehrbettzimmer, mehr als 6 Betten gibt es aber nicht. Jedes Zimmer hat zudem ein eigenes Bad, das auch regelmäßig geputzt wird. EIne Küchenzeile gibt es auch. Née, das war gelogen. Aber es gibt mehrere Küchen, falls man mal keine Lust auf Restaurant hat oder zu viel Geld beim Feiern auf den Kopf gehauen hat und nun am Essen sparen muss.
Morgens gibt es die Möglichkeit im Restaurant nebenan zu frühstücken (3,70 € kostet ‘s) und das auch recht lange. Man muss sich im Urlaub also nicht um 8 Uhr aus dem Bett quälen um labbrigen Toast zu essen. Man kann bequem um 11.30 Uhr zu einem ausgewogenem Frühstück mit Brötchen, Aufstrich, Früchten, Müsli, Tee, Kaffee (also alles was das Herz begehrt) gehen.
Ich würde, wenn ich in Berlin Urlaub machen würde auch dort hingehen. In so einem tollen Hostel hab ich nämlich, glaub ich, noch nie genächtigt!

Ein nettes, modernes, sauberes Hostel im östlichen Teil Berlins.
+Einmal umfallen und man ist bei der U-​Bahnstation Rosa-​Luxemburg-​Platz, eine Station von Alexanderplatz entfernt. Eine Straßenbahnhaltestelle ist auch nicht weit weg.
+Man hat keine Schlüssel, sondern erhält eine einzelne Karte, die den Hoteleingang, die Türen am Gang und zum Zimmer sowie den Spind im Zimmer (bei 6-​Bett-​Dorms) sperrt. Subjektiv gutes Sicherheitsgefühl.
+Eine tolle Bar mit Dachterrasse.
+Freundlich.
+Nette Lobby mit Snackautomaten und so weiter.
+Frühstück um 3,50 ist gut (für alle, die Frühstück brauchen).
+Es gibt eine Möglichkeit, selbst zu kochen (wer’s braucht).
+Die 6er Dorms haben zwar Stockbetten, aber die Zimmer sind groß und haben jeweils ein eigenes Bad.
–WLAN funktioniert leider nur in der Lobby, wer keinen Laptop mit hat muss fürs Surfen zahlen.

Für die Übernachtungsmöglichkeit unseres Berlin-​Aufenthalts wählten wir diesmal die Nähe zum Alexanderplatz. Über eine Zeitungsempfehlung hatten wir ein Appartement reserviert, das unseren Preiswünschen sehr entgegen kam. Viele Fenster im Schlafzimmer, ein Wohn-​, Küchenbereich mit Sofa, Küche und Esstisch alles von IKEA. Auch natürlich die Kochutensilien und das nötige Geschirr. Weiters eine Mikrowelle, ein Wasserkocher und Kühlschrank. Einen kleinen Bildschirm für TV und auch Radioempfang gabs, auch DVDs konnten abgespielt werden. Der Sanitärbereich mit Becken, WC und einer Dusche. Wie schon erwähnt der Preis war ausgezeichnet, die verschiedenen Leute an der Rezeption alle freundlich und hilfsbereit, Terminals zum Surfen und wenn man einen Papierausdruck brauchte, waren die netten Leute am Empfang jederzeit bereit dafür. Weniger gefallen hat uns das Lichtkonzept. Beim Bett konnte man mit Mühe etwas erkennen, lesen war fast nicht möglich. Die Deckenbeleuchtung in allen Räumen ist nicht ausreichend. Im Badezimmer reicht sie auch nicht für eine entsprechende Körperpflege. Im Wohnbereich fehlt die Stehlampe und durch das fahle Licht wirds einfach nicht gemütlich. Kerzen getrauten wir uns nicht zu entzünden angesichts der Rauchmelder. Die Loggia auf die laute Schönhauser-​Allee wird auch kaum genützt werden im Sommer, da sie über keine Sitzmöglichkeiten verfügt. Wenn man in der Nacht Ruhe haben will wird man sich auch einen anderen Berliner Bezirk aussuchen müssen. Andererseits ist man an dieser Adresse voll im Geschehen und zur Volksbühne am Rosa-​Luxenburg-​Platz muss man gerade mal zwei Straßen queren.

Das Wombats ist ein gepflegtes, sauberes Backpackerhotel. Junge Leute aus aller Welt treffen hier zusammen, aber auch ältere werden mit der nagelneuen Ausstattung der Zimmer zufrieden sein. Die Preise sind für die Top-​Lage an der Grenze Prenzelberg/​Mitte mit aktuell 29 Euro für ein Doppelzimmer (pro Person) moderat. Die Rezeptionisten/​innen sind hilfsbereit und durch die Bank sehr freundlich. Ein Planungsfehler ist allerdings die 6. Etage, wo viele Doppelzimmer direkt unter der Bar (mit lauter Musik bis drei Uhr nachts) liegen. Auch wird aktuell nebenan gebaut, wodurch man morgens durchaus mal von einer Hilti geweckt werden kann. Schade war auch, dass in der 6. Etage kaum noch W-​Lam-​Empfang möglich ist und dass die Essensqualität des hauseigenen Restaurants trotz interessanter Karte meiner Meinung nach unterirdisch ist (die Nudeln waren Brei, der Salat schal).

Very nice hostel, great location — within walking distance of Hackescher Markt, Museumsinsel and other nearby sites and directly adjacent to the U-​Bahn. We stayed in the 1-​br apartment during a business trip, and it was quite comfortable and nicely stocked. No Internet in the room, though. The bar upstairs was reasonable — we were only disappointed that we arrived too late to enjoy our drinks out on the roof terrace. Friendly, helpful staff and nice atmosphere.

Das Wombats in Berlin Mitte, nahe am Hackeschen Markt hat erst letzten Monat erföffnet und erscheint auf dem ersten Blicke wie ein Designerhotel und nicht wie ein Hostel. Alles ist noch super neu und schick eingerichtet. Man kann zwischen 2, 4 oder 6 Bett-​Zimmern wählen. Die Doppelzimmer kosten pro Person pro Nacht 25 Euro. Die Zimmer sind zwar klein, aber völlig ausreichend. In den 6 Bett-​Zimmern gibt es abschließbare Spinde, um seine Wertsachen zu sichern. In der Lobby ist eine extra Internetecke untergebracht. Für einen geringen Betrag kann man hier surfen. Des Weiteren gibt es eine öffentliche Küche mit Kühlschrank. Hier kann man sich etwas kochen, oder seine Lebensmittel lagern.
Direkt angeschlossen ist auch ein Café, Bistro. Hier kann man als Gast für 3,50 Euro frühstücken oder irgendetwas anderes essen. Das Frühstück war super lecker und für den Preis unschlagbar. Wie es mit der Lautstärke in dem Hostel aussieht kann ich leider nicht sagen. Es ist denke ich jedoch eher für Jugendliche geeignet.

die beliebteste hostelkette der welt hat an einer der beliebtesten ecken berlins ein hostel hingestellt in einer geschwindigkeit, da wirds sogar den torstrassenstrassenlärmgewohnten schwindlig.
gestern stand da noch der legendäre imbiss, in dem madonna und lady di bei curry und becks ihr menschsein für kurze augenblicke nächtlich zelebrieren durften. die pommesbude mußte weichen, ein haus wurde hochgezogen, so oft konnte man gar nicht täglich vorbeigehen, stand es frisch poliert und schlüsselfertig da.
heute ist es voll mit jungen leuten aus der ganzen welt die in der lounge vor ihren laptops sitzen und so wonderfull perfect hier her passen.
die ecke hat was verloren, und doch was gewonnen. das nenne ich mal sinnvolles city-​managment.
