After the change in ownership, this place has switched bagels for toast! I am impressed. The avocado and hummus toast is the perfect breakfast. I’m even on my way there now to get one. With a friendly price of just over 3 Euro, I can actually eat that fatty toast on a regular basis. And they use GOODQUALITYMILK in the coffee drinks! Who woulda thought, Berlin??? No H-milk here! They use proper spoilable bio milk and it makes a world of difference for taste!!! My favorite favorite favorite part about the café which I missed from home is being able to joke around with the people who work there and seeing them in a good mood. I used to have my go to places in Seattle which were like that, but since moving to Berlin 5 years ago, I never found that sort of fun coffee shop vibe. Being that I’m not a morning person, I really appreciate that from other people in the morning(hehe, or let’s face it… early afternoon…). Now they have soup. BTW — the owner plays guitar, so bring your guitar or trumpet and play for him!

It’s one thing, as a business, to take a bad review and ignore it. That’s totally acceptable when faced with harsh language, a heated reviewer, and depending on who you ask, the truth. It’s another thing for a business to sic their friends on the reviewer for months to come, which is just tacky. I actually never read the responses because I didn’t care to delve into a stranger’s defense of lackluster coffee, service, and toast. But then I woke up this morning to a notification that something I had posted to Facebook was reported and removed, and my thoughts immediately went to Two Planets. Who, of course, now have their pristine and suspicious 5 star rating back. Seriously? Do you care that much? Look, sometimes people just aren’t going to like you, and that’s OK. I’ve been to Two Planets twice. The first time, they advertised bagels, but had none. The guy working the front was totally aloof and unfriendly, and made me feel stupid and rushed, so I settled on an expensive iced coffee. It was terrible, and I don’t even have high expectations for coffee as I’ve happily inhaled burnt shit from spätis and bodegas alike. He didn’t have plastic tops or straws, and when I asked him about them, he waved me off. «We’re out today. Sorry.» Off I went, with a sad iced coffee sloshing in my hand, only for it to go in the orange receptacle down the street. But that didn’t stop me from going back a few weeks later. I read that they had smoothies and that’s what I really wanted. 5 euros later, I was sent away with the most disgusting banana peanut butter smoothie I’ve ever tasted. You should not be able to go wrong with banana peanut butter, since the two form an iconic, unbreakable flavor bond. This smoothie managed to be simultaneously tasteless, sour, and thin. Again, without a top or straw. Again, served with weird attitude. I still didn’t want to give up. I’ve read so many positive reviews about this place and was waiting for the right time to be won over. One morning I walked up to the front, and noticed the lights were on but the metal awning was pushed down slightly. As I looked inside and noticed the hours, the metal awning suddenly lowered directly in front of my face. I think I even said out loud, «Seriously?!». Whoever was working could have easily cracked the door and said«Sorry, we’re closed». I didn’t even dare to touch the handle myself, and that’s what set me off. Such is the way of Berlin: you can have all the kitschy chalkboard signs, arugula, and burgers in the world, but if you want to visit a business run by humans? Good luck finding one. What I would give to have such a warm, welcoming space like Two Planets and serve a product I care about. The reason I chose to air my grievances on Facebook is because I didn’t feel like writing it on Unilocal, where I prefer to share my largely good experiences. By reporting my review, Two Planets confirmed what I already knew: they’re shady, lazy, rude, and everything that’s wrong with this ridiculous community of know-it-alls who maybe once ate an avocado and decided to put it on everything in order to capitalize on whatever trend is hot at the moment. «Dope ass toast»? Do you guys own a burger place, too? Come on, sheeple. You’re better than that.

This place used to be a bagel café. It’s changed hands and is now a super fresh and modern vegan café. The toasts are made from delicious bread and piled high with tasty inspired toppings, you don’t even realise it’s vegan ;) they do have regular milk though, if that’s your jam. Finish with a coffee and a cold brew on ice, and you have a great start to the day!

The coffee is great and the toasts are probably the freshest and best you’ve had. Something completely different than the regular pub toasts. Everything on the menu is suitable for vegans and the food will make you full and feeling good. The place also probably has the nicest customer service you will run into, and the owner, Nick, is likely to be your new best friend.

It’s so hard to find a good bagel outside of New York, but Two Planets bagels are pretty much close to perfection. They’re so soft and chewy with the right amount of crunch on the outside. And if you get there early enough they are still hot from the oven. I tried the egg & cheese on an everything bagel and a plain bagel with jalapeño cream cheese and both were great. I am going to try to go here every day for my morning coffee and breakfast. Haven’t tried the cookies yet but they look really good.

It seems like New York-inspired treats are all the rage in Berlin, and the newest place to open is Two Planets. I visited during the«soft opening,» which means that it was the café’s second day. But so far, it’s got a lot going for it. First, there are the New York-style bagels. I’m not New Yorker, so I don’t know how close they are to the real thing, but the one I had(cinnamon with raisins) was quite tasty. You can also get various flavored cream cheeses and butter on your bagel, though no vegan spreads were available when I visited(a tofu cream cheese has been promised in the future). Second, they use coffee beans from Bonanza. Yum! Third, the music selection is pretty darn fantastic. Lots of good indie stuff, edging more on the side of electronic/ambient, which makes for a pleasant environment for working or hanging out. Definitely a place to keep on your radar.
