Thai Imbiss Ban-Dung has been around for several years at least, as one of the fast food options along the Spree River where it flows through Treptower Park. The staff are friendly and the kiosk itself looks pretty clean. The food is typical German-style Thai/Pan-Asian cuisine, so there’s an emphasis on stir-fried noodle dishes. I try not to eat too many simple carbs so I went for a chicken and vegetable stir-fry. My dining partner went for green curry pork. I was impressed by the freshness, deliciousness, and variety of vegetables in my stir-fry. However, it was missing the advertised basil, which was sad. More concerning, the sauce seemed to be nothing more than about half a cup of soy sauce mixed with half a cup of vegetable oil, so that a pool of grease settled at the bottom of my plate. I was able to use my fork to lift food out of the grease and let it drain off, but of course that only does so much and the general effect was still… greasy. My dining partner’s green curry pork was much better. I had avoided the green curry dish because of the coconut milk but that was a mistake. His meal was much lighter and healthier than my stir-fry. The meat in both dishes was fairly low-quality which is to be expected at a little fast-food stand like this. But I thought the prices were a little extreme: 6.80 Euro for each of our meals. That said, it was a decent option for grabbing something quick to eat in this area. Next time, though, knowing now what the calorie damage is for a stir-fry at this place, I would probably just go ahead and hit up the crêpe stand instead.
