Sigiriya

Wir waren an einem Nachmittag durchgefroren hier eingekehrt. Von der Vorspeise bis zum Hauptgericht war alles sehr lecker, der Chai ist auch super und meine Begleitung war auch begeistert, dass es mal nicht nach dem «typischen» indischen Einerlei schmeckte, sondern jedes Gericht für sich sprach. Innen ist die Bestuhlung recht eng, im Sommer gibt es sicher auch draußen Plätze. Fazit: Sehr lecker und entspannte Atmosphäre.

In order to combat the bitterly cold onset of winter in October, we thought we’d go for some fiery Sri Lankan food. I have been to Sri Lanka and I must say that the food here bears little resemblance in terms of authenticity, to what you would find on that beautiful island. I would describe the offering at Sigiriya as a modified form of ‘German Curry House’ with the addition of some coconut.
Excellent, welcoming service. The spiciness has been adjusted for the German palate, but you can add some additional chilli zing with the condiment on the table.
We tried a mutton and a chicken curry. Both were well spiced but disappointingly the portions were frugal to the point of stinginess. There could not have been more than a few grams of meat on each place. But if you went there with a light appetite, I don’t think you would be disappointed.
Two people could eat a simple meal there with a couple of beers for around € 30. A well-​known Berlin food blog recently wrote that Sigiriya was the best Indian food in Berlin. I’m new here and haven’t sampled the competition, but I sincerely hope I have not reached the apex!

Super leckeres Essen, allerdings sollte man reservieren da das Lokal recht klein ist. Völlig neue Geschmackserlebnisse & –Explosionen aus der Küche sri Lankas. Nicht indisch, nicht Thai, sondern eine eigene Küche mit vielen vielen Gewürzen! Da dort auch diverse Menschen aus Sri Lanka mit Deutschen Freunden aßen, gehe ich davon aus dass es dem essen in Sri Lanka selbst recht nahe kommt!!!

In a word — Sri-​lankan dishes, if you never tried it… Now is a good time!
Longer version (for the brave) — I’ve passed by that restaurant several times and was always curious about the flavors of Sri Lanka.
So a couple of friends gathered and we decided to give this place a try, we took a table outside and went through the menu.
The dishes remind me a lot of the Indian cuisine, with lots of curry dishes and spices… But the seasoning is a bit different and the plates are a bit more diverse.
The dishes are also a bit «lighter», which is good because you don’t have to nap after it haha :)
We started with Vadai -(vegetarian) a southern Indian specialty, my friend said the original are a bit fluffier but these ones taste great too.
For the main dish I had a mung bean curry and chicken, both made differently and I asked to them to make it extra spicy, I handled it pretty well (and added extra sanbal) so beware if you’re sensitive, some of the dishes are spicy from its core :)
The plate was very aesthetic and the food was well seasoned and very delicious.
Mung beans are a very unusual choice for me and I loved how they made it!
In the middle of the plate there was a nice portion of rice and on the side some caramelized onion and a some salad — I loved everything about it.
We also got complimentary papadams (sorry if it’s spelled wrong) and sambal so it won’t be dry
Excellent service, fair prices, definitely coming back again!

Stumbled upon this place and since we never had food from Sri Lanka before, we needed a little introduction. Wonderful waitor who explained all the spices and flavours, and then came the food. OH LORD! Best choice for people who loves indian food and want’s to level up.

I really enjoyed this place. I was coming to an end of a two week stay in Europe and was tired of the same old same old on every menu (pork knuckles!) so this was a great change. They serve Sri Lankan food here and it was really tasty. I had a curry dish with rice and naan bread. There are so many different curries it can be hard to choose. I really enjoyed the food and it wasn’t overpriced. Would definitely recommend a stop.

Overall the food was well prepared but the flavours were not well balanced. Curry was a little too salty and too much mango chutney on the starter. I felt the service was good but food standards were lower than I expected.

Ein unfreundlicher Kellner gab uns mit kargen Worten zu verstehen, dass unser (wohlerzogener, kleiner) Hund hier nicht willkommen sei. Obwohl wir gern indisch essen, werden wir hier garantiert nie wieder hingehen, nicht mal, wenn der Hund nicht dabei ist. Freunden haben wir auch schon abgeraten.

Wir waren das erste mal hier und haben es aufgrund des Eindrucks von der Strasse ausgewählt. Die Speisekarte machte einen spannenden Eindruck. Unsere Erwartungen wurden absolut erfüllt. Schmackhaft und authentisch waren die Speisen. Die Bedienung war nett und half uns die Speisen zu verstehen und hat uns im Grad der Schärfe optimal beraten.
Wir finden, die anderen Bewertungen, die aus der Reihe fallen nicht so ernst zu nehmen. Wir empfehlen dieses Restaurant weiter und kommen auch wieder hierher.

Das Gemüse klassisch Blumenkohl/​Erbsen/​Möhren gewürfelt-​Tiefkühlkost ohne Geschmack, total zerkocht.
die Rote Beete dazu fade in kleinen Streifen, frische und aromatische Gewürze fehlten komplettfür 9 EUR erwartet man mehr
Schade, der Laden ist nett eingerichtet ein Stern für die freundliche Bedienung

Vor meiner Sri Lanka Reise möchte ich doch mal das landestypische Essen mal probieren. Durch Internet Recherché sind wir in Sigiriya gelandet. Ein sehr kleines Restaurant nähe Simon-​Dach-​Str. Sehr gemütliches Ambiente. Das Personal war auch super freundlich. Das Essen erinnert an indische Curry. Aber man merkt es ist doch nicht indisch. Viel mehr Gewürze stecken noch drin. Viel aromatischer als Indisch. Das Fleisch ist bio dort. Mein Lammfleisch war butterzart. Der Lachs von meinem Freund schmeckte auch sehr frisch. Preis-​Leistungs-​Verhältnis ist auch super. Wir kommen wieder! :)

Sehr nettes, liebevolles Restaurant. Tolle Speisekarte mit Gewürzkunde! Sehr freundliche Bedienung. Verzicht auf unnötige Zusatzstoffe und Bio-​Produkte. Sehr angenehm. Wärmstens zu empfehlen.
Einzig die Lage an der gut befahrenen Straße ist ein Kritikpunkt.

Im Sommer ist es nett, draußen zu sitzen, deshalb kann ich über die Enge drinnen gar nichts schreiben. Sehr nette Bedienung. Das Essen originell zusammengesetzt (Curry mit jeweils 2 verschienden Gemüsen). Auf Wunsch auch veganes Salatdressing. Die Portionen zu klein für mich; musste noch Reis nachbestellen. Es schmeckte schon irgendwie anders (ist ja auch ungewöhnlich: Sri Lanka), aber dann doch nicht so überraschend gut. Solide, mehr nicht. Der Preis ist in Ordnung. Für die Gegend eher am oberen Level.

Ein schönes Restaurant mit für die Gegend etwas gehobenen Preisen (aber auch Neuland-​Fleisch und Bioprodukten). Freundliche Bedienung, spannend, mal etwas Neues auszuprobieren. Die Portionen sind absolut ausreichend. Einziger Kritikpunkt. Die Tische stehen extrem nah beieinander und es wird recht laut und voll.

Achtung: kein indisches Restaurant, sondern ein Restaurant mit sehr guter Küche aus Sri Lanka. Das bedeutet, dass es kein Chicken tikka etc gibt, dafür aber viel vegetarische Küche und viele Currys, wie sie typisch für die ceylonesische bzw südindische Küche sind.
Das bedeutet auch, das das Essen eben immer etwas schärfer gewürzt ist; also vorher Bescheid geben, wenn man es nicht mag (für mich hätte es sogar noch schäfer sein können).
Service ist gut; Preis-​Leistung ebenfalls.
Positiv: Fleisch und gemüse ist Bioware!

Zu aller Erst: Sigiriya ist KEIN typischer Inder, wie manche Vorredner irrtümlich annahmen. Der typische Inder in Deutschland kocht auf Deutsche abgestimmte Gerichte, die mit Indien meist genauso wenig zu tun haben wie der Thüringer Kloß mit China.
Sigiriya ist ein Restaurant, in dem es wohlschmeckende Spezialitäten aus Sri Lanka gibt, die der indischen Küche teilweise ähneln. Die Karte bietet dem Unerfahrenen auch gleich eine nette Gewürzkunde, so dass man überlegen kann, an welches Gericht man sich rantraut. Es gibt eine große Auswahl an vegetarischen Gerichten. Das Lokal ist nett eingerichtet und meistens voll. Mit den Kellnern habe ich noch keine Probleme gehabt.

Ich habe dem Restaurant aufgrund der recht guten Bewertungen einen Besuch abgestattet und kann leider nichts Positives daran finden.
Das Essen war extrem überwürzt. Ich habe den Klassiker Chicken Curry gewählt und konnte das Essen kaum essen, so scharf war es.
Unschön finde ich auch, dass es das Gericht komplett auf dem Teller gibt. Andere Indische Restaurants servieren es in Schälchen, was für ich auch einen typischen Inder ausmacht.
Ganz schlimm war vor allem die Bedienung: Extrem unfreundlich, schnippisch, frech, Fragen zu Inhaltsstoffen konnte sie nicht beantworten und war sehr genervt.
Nie wieder!

Exzellente Küche aus Sri Lanka, alles lecker und nicht zu viel.
Auch vegetarisch sehr gut.
Geschmackvoll eingerichtet.
Ein Sternabzug für die vorlaute bis hilflose, radebrechende, freche, verschlampte Aushilfe heute, die mit dem Ärmel ins Essen wischt, den Teller fast ans Kinn knallt und dem Gast in die Unterhaltung quatscht über ihre Sicht der Dinge aus ihrer Welt. Und zum Abschied honigverklebte Karten hinlegt. Ein Jammer um den tollen Laden hoffentlich nur vorübergehend

Sehr sehr gut! Ich finde die Auswahl echt reichlich & es ist wirklich mal was anderes, als indisches Essen. Scharf ist es aber (auf Wunsch aber auch mild möglich) bei manchen Kreationen doch zuuuu sehr für meinen deutschen Magen (da überlegt man sich den Spruch ich vertrage scharfes Essen beim nächsten Mal lieber). Ganz lecker finde ich die vegetarischen Kreationen bspw. mit Rote Beete (ist WIRKLICH gut!).

Tolles Restaurant!
Ich habe es jetzt einige Male zum Mittagstisch ausprobiert und bin begeistert. Inwieweit es authentisch Sri Lankisches Essen ist, kann ich leider nicht aus erster Hand beurteilen, es schmeckt mir jedoch super und ich freue mich, dass es noch asiatische Restaurants in Berlin gibt, die keine Gerichte anbieten, die man genau in der gleichen Form an der nächsten Ecke auch bekommen würde. Ich rechne es ihnen auch hoch an, dass Neuland-​Fleisch verwendet wird und jede Woche spezielle Wochengerichte erhältlich sind.
Mein favourite: die leckeren (und gesunden!) ayurvedischen Tees, wie z.B. den Samahan-​Tee, den ich bis jetzt nur aus Indien von Freunden mitgebracht kannte.

Wir waren heute hier. Leider war das Essen nicht so überzeugend für uns, wie das andere hier sehen.
Aber mag sein, das wir verwöhnt sind, und nicht auf Massenabfertigung aus dem grossen Topf stehen.

Ich war aufgrund einer Blog-​Empfehlung hier und leider sehr enttäuscht. Die drei Sterne gibt es für den sehr netten Service und die Bio/​Neuland/​Fair Trade Zutaten.
Das Essen fand ich ziemlich langweilig, kaum gewürzt und eher einfallslos präsentiert. Preislich dafür in Ordnung, aber natürlich nicht günstig, was bei den Bio-​Zutaten ja auch total ok ist.
Der Raum ist sehr vollgestellt, man sitzt sehr eng bei den Nachbarn und für einen privat-​lauschigen Abend finde ich es deshalb ungeeignet.
Meine Empfehlung: lieber zu AmmAmma in der Urbanstr/​Körtestr. genauso nett und günstig, aber viel kreativer und besser!

Into it. So into it, you don’t even know.
So far I’ve been a huge fan of the food in Berlin, and it seems like I’m one of the few. It’s true though; I love the food here.
Sigiriya topped it all. The food + the service = a place I’ll be visiting over and over again.
We started off with #12, which was their version of a samosa. This was ok, but probably not something I would order again.
Then we ordered the chicken curry and some sort of pasta dish with mutton.
Both were INCREDIBLE. Perfect amount of spice, fresh flavors and excellent portions. I was here three weeks ago and can’t wait to go back!

Sehr leckere indische Küche und schmackhaft auf dem Teller angerichtet. Wirklich mal was anderes als der Berliner-​Indische-​Einheitsbrei. Ein Pünktchen Abzug gibt es für den nicht ganz so gemütlichen Gastraum, denn zu nah an den Toiletten riecht es nacht WC-​Stein und an der Küche ist es laut.

My favorite Sri Lanka Restaurant. Excellent food. Partly organic ingredients. Highly recommend the salads.

I have come here several times for Indian and Sri Lankan food. OH IT WAS DELICIOUS. I took my Mom here, took a few dates here, took my old teacher here, took my aunt here… yes. I really enjoy it.
It has yummy lassi, tons of vegetarian options, and the raita is to die for.
The food has wonderful presentation and the wait staff is very helpful. They speak English and German, which was helpful for my family, as they don’t speak German.
If you are looking for an authentic mix of Thai (REAL THAI – i.e. just not with peanut sauce), Indian, and Sri Lankan food that has real spice (not just the hot kind), then I highly suggest this lovely place for gastronomic experience. I like to sit outside in the summer and people watch but if you are lucky enough, you can sit by the window and people watch in the winter too.
I can’t wait to go back here again :-)

Do you know much about Sri Lankan food? No? Yeah — we have no idea.
What we do know is that this food was delightful. In a neighborhood littered with Thai & Indian, this is a little different. The food was presented so beautifully and with a smile! by our server that we were instantly in a good mood. As seekers of spice, we were pleased when our faces turned red and we proceeded to sweat in subzero January temperatures. Excellent food, great place… we are plotting our next visit.

Wir waren sehr zufrieden. Sehr große Auswahl auf der Karte, inklusiver ausführlicher Einweisung in die Ceylonesische Küche und Gewürzratgeber. Preise für Friedrichshain gerade noch okay, dafür gute Qualität.
Die Portionen sind wirklich ordentlich (große Teller, die z.B. mit Reis + 2 Sorten Curry gut gefüllt sind), bissl Papadam als Vorspeise ist doch eh mal klar (und wurde uns nicht einmal berechnet). Die Schärfe wird vorsichtshalber nochmals hinterfragt, so dass man noch zurückrudern kann, wenn man aus Versehen «sehr scharf» gesagt hat :-)
Kleiner gemütlicher Laden drinnen, aber auch draußen sitzen an der belebten Grünberger Straße ist schön. In jedem Fall meine Empfehlung, wenn man nicht grad den «größten Inder am Platze» (an der Simon-​Dach mit gefühlten 200 Außenplätzen) nehmen will!

I was quite pleased with the quality of the food, atmosphere and service here, as were my 3 friends. Plenty of choices for vegetarians, and the service was fast and friendly. I’m looking forward to going back and trying more options from the menu. It could very well deserve 5 stars, but I’ve only been there once so far, so I’m holding out on the last star until I return to try some more options.

I really love this Sri Lankan /​South Indian place (don’t expect to find your normal vindaloo here)
In the afternoon they have 3 dishes for a very good price (⁴⁄₅ euro for a vegetarian main course, around 7 for something with meat /​fish).
In the normal menu starters are around 3 euro and main courses between 6 — 10 euro. Both well worth it.
The fish and meat is very good and where possible everything they serve is biological, sustainable, and without hormones.
Both the woman and the man who served us were great, and inside it’s warm and cosy.
The quality of the food is amazing, and it’s something you won’t find again soon.
Try the salmon curry /​red beet curry combination… mmm!
They also offer nice teas and wines btw… so all in all, try it!

Wow. I always thought Sri Lankan food was not as good as Indian. After eating at Sigiriya, I’ve changed my mind. The food here is excellent. Lots of fresh flavors, and not as heavy as Indian food.
Check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

I was initially put off by the seats outside due to the heavy footfall of people moving from simon-​dach to boxi (and their slightly tacky green plastic flower holders), however based on other reviews I went inside the actual restaurant which comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Food wise, it was also excellent — I had a beef curry served with 4 appes (a type of coconut/​yeast/​ricefloor pancake), with a side serving of pol cambole (coconut shavings mixed with tomato, lemonjuice, onions and chilli). The whole dish was very tasty, with the food being well spicied, but without being overpowering. As people have noted, it’s a bit dearer than others in the area, but as far as I’m concerned the EUR8.90 i paid was money well spent and i’ll be returning.

This is my favourite Indian-​style restaurant in Berlin, so far. I’m still searching though. Their dishes are definitely a step above what is normally served but still served with too much sauce and too bland which is typical of the Indian places in Berlin. Prices are a bit higher here as well as they serve organic meats, etc. very nice!

This is a fantastic Sri Lankan restaurant, and I enjoy this more than any curry/​Indian place i’ve been to in the city. I’ve tried more than 5 dishes and they have all been phenomenal. This is my favorite find in Friedrichshain so far. Lots of choices for vegetarians as well, with exotic curries such as beetroot, carrot and more. note: i just deducted a star because they recently raised their pricesby as much as a euro for some things. booooo. i’m still going, but not as often.
