Hotel Alex

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 9 days at the end of March, and thought it was just wonderful! It is a budget boutique hotel, but really offers a very nice experience. It is on a main street equidistant from the center of Prenzlauerberg (the hipster center where there are a million restaurants, bars, and shopping options) and Alexanderplatz (one of the central plazas of Berlin.) You cannot get a better location if you want to be within walking distance of great food, and the main subway lines. The M4 tram is directly in front of the hotel, which makes getting pretty much anywhere a breeze.
The staff was beyond helpful with suggestions for places to go, as well as just generally friendly and welcoming.
The breakfast was bountiful and delicious — cheeses, meats, yogurt, cereals, sausages, juices, coffee. And to boot, the breakfast is served until noon, so you can sleep in after a long night out, and still have fresh food right down the hallway!
The rooms are «European sized» — meaning, they’re pretty small. We were comfortable, and felt that the size was very fair for the price. The rooms were kept clean and the hanging shelves allowed for plenty of storage space. No, this is probably not the hotel where you should stay on your honeymoon, but for a week away with friends or a boyfriend where you don’t want to spend a ton of money, this should be your number one choice!

Hotel liegt gut, in der Nähe vom Alexanderplatz! Frühstücksbuffet sehr vielfältig und eine gute Stärkung für den Tag! 24h-​Rezeption! Wände nicht so dick, aber schlafen kann man trotzdem gut, man sieht sich ja auch die Stadt an und ist nicht nur im Zimmer! Tägliche roomservice und gratis w-​lan! Sehr gutes preisleistungsverhältnis!!!

It was fashion week in Berlin and we couldn’t find a hotel room. Finally found a room at the Hotel Alex. The tram stops right across the street so transport is easy.
The hotel is clean but very simple. The rooms are wood floors with very little furniture. There is a small television, a small desk, and a simple chair. There is no real closet, just some shelves and a few hangers. The bathroom was very small but clean. The towels felt very rough.
Because we were there during fashion week, the room rate was 120 euros. This seemed high for what we were getting. However, wireless internet and breakfast are included. I would say that you could probably do better for the price, but in a pinch staying here is okay.

Sehr nettes Hotel in unmittelbarer Umgebung zum Alexanderplatz (wer keine Lust zum Laufen hat: die Metro fährt vom Alexanderplatz aus, es sind nur wenige Stationen).
Frühstück und kostenloses WLAN sind verfügbar, das Personal ist sehr nett. Zwar nicht das allerruhigste Hotel (mag auch am Zimmer gelegen haben), dennoch aber ein Tipp für Berlin-​Reisende!
