On a sunday evening, i ordered a falafel. There were two other persons waiting for their meal. After 25 minutes, I got a falafel. Three chickpea balls in a cheap bread. Some Hummus, some gherkin, cucumber and tomato. Not big. There was definitely space left in it for more(usually they’re stuffed until full). 3,50 Euros. There was much too much lemon in it, it didn’t taste good. Not in any way. Just sour. And considering the price, I’d definitely go somewhere else, e.g. in Sonnenallee where you get a falafel for usually just 1,50(even 1 Euro is possible in Flughafenstrasse) or in Friedrichshain where they are about twice or three times the size for the same price. Or in Kreuzberg, a bit cheaper and just a little bigger. And they do taste well. Sorry, this was the worst fast food i’ve experienced this year in Berlin. The staff was not especially friendly, he didn’t say hello, maybe he was stressed because of the preparation of the food for the other two guests, i don’t know. The interior was nice, but it’s hard for me to give even two stars.

Yet another Israeli hummus joint opened this past fall, but this time in the unexpected kiez of Treptow! Fortunately it’s near the Kreuzberg/Neukoelln border, making it pretty accessible for adventurous food lovers living in those areas. Both the hummus and falafel are among the best I’ve had in the city. Both dishes were full of flavor, well balanced and aggressively priced. And what’s this, they even do sabich? Unfortunately they don’t have it every day, so I missed out on my first visit. Frisch-Mann is a no-nonsense Tel Aviv-style joint. No more, no less. That’s fine with me, and I’ll be back.

When everything goes wrong, a nice plate of Hummus will make it better. Finally a good place for Hummus lovers in Berlin. Felt a bit like home. :)
