Chapter One Coffee

wir Kaffee Verrückten sind extra 45 Minuten gefahren, um das Chapter One auszuprobieren und es hat sich gelohnt!
In der Nähe war passender Weise auch noch der Karneval der Kulturen.
Das Lokal ist schick eingerichtet und der Kaffee war sehr schmackhaft. Meine Schwester ist seitdem sie in Australien immer den Moccha (Kaffee-​schoko) getrunken hat, IMMER enttäuscht worden, außer hier: D was sie
trzd zu meckern fand, war die zu dünne Milchschaumschicht.
Auf meinem Macha Soy Latte (2,80 €) war viel Milchschaum und die Latte Art verzaubert mich immer wieder haha
PREIS für 3 Getränke (Cappucino, Moccha, Matcha) haben wir ca. 8,50 € bezahlt, also durchschnittlich :)
BEDIENUNG war super nett!
was ich sehr Schade fand, dass es kaum Tische und Sitzplätze gab. Draussen gab es paar kleine Sitzmöglichkeiten und innen 2 kleine Tische und an der 3 grosse Hocker mit kleinen Wandtischen.
also eher war für Café to go.

A very nice little café which focuses specifically coffee. The best coffee I’ve tried in Berlin.

Super good flat white. The pastries and sandwiches were tasty too. Very reasonable prices. Small shop so it is not suitable for large groups or for a long chilling chat session.

Absurdly good coffee! Not the most coziest of places though. But did I mention absurdly great coffee?!

Ein kleiner, wirklich süßer Laden mit herausragendem Kaffee! Für mich und meine Freundin gibt’s hier regelmäßig einen sehr gut gemachten Cappuccino mit tollem Milchschaum. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Best coffee in the area! Pastries are quite good too. Unfortunately the sitting options are not great (only a few which arent particularly comfortable) but the coffee makes up for it! Staff is always pleasant and I’ve never had to wait more than a few minutes for my coffee. Highly recommend!

Super guter Kaffee! Der Laden ist klein aber man kann dort Kaffeebohnen kaufen. Die Kaffees werden mit guter Brodowin Bio Milch zubereitet.

This is a fabulous coffee house. If you don’t speak German that’s fine, they speak perfect English. The selection of roasts is phenomenal and the espresso is perfect, bold and strong. There isn’t a lot of room to sit inside, but most people take out anyway so the sitting room that is there is generally open.
They also have a great selection of Danishes and croissants. Very fresh and soft. Not to mention the guy who served me my latte did a lovely design in the foam (it’s something small, but definitely a lovely touch :)).

Yesterday was my first but defo not last time at Chapter One Coffee in Berlin. Loved the interior and set up of the shop and they even have a few chairs outside to catch some sun while enjoying your coffee. As I love my freshly brewed filter coffee ala V60, Chemex or Areopress I was delighted to avail of their filter option. To top this even a bit more you are able to choose from 5 different coffee blend origins. I went for the Ethiopian one which was absolutely divine. Its kind hit you on the rich semi dry taste but leads to a fresh and citrusy finish. Along with the filter we ordered a Matcha latte which was finally made to the standard and quality taste we used to drink our Matcha but weren’t lucky in Berlin yet. This, the excellent coffee, well have to give the other 4 options a try and the friendly service will make us come back soon.

Ein tolles kleines Café. Der Kaffee ist sehr hochwertig und der Milchschaum perfekt. Dort versteht man was von Kaffee.

Hier wird Coffee noch zelebriert und nicht einfach nur schnell in Pappbecher gefüllt. So muss es wirklich sein, nur so schmeckt es. Es hat etwas mit Genuss zu tun und genau das ist entscheidend und ich sage ja! Es ist ein Genuss!

Felt like we were back in Brooklyn when we visited Chapter One. Coffee was great and the pastries weren’t bad either (though there were lots of bees flying around them — bees seemed to be pretty omnipresent in Berlin though). This café is definitely not ideal if you’re looking for a place to sit with your laptop and do work all day as the seating space is limited to the window seat. We ended up sitting outside on the makeshift benches they had set up with everyone else who was getting coffee. Was a lovely little breakfast.

Stumbled in here through a word-​of-​mouth suggestion and was very impressed. I talked with the owner who was knew exactly what he was serving and was enthusiastic about his product. I was so impressed with my first espresso that I ordered a second one.

Definitely my favorite coffee place in Berlin.

Geile Brew Bar in Kreuzberg! Wer den perfekten — handgefilterten — Kaffee sucht, sollte hier dringend vorbei schauen! Nix für den gemütlichen Kaffeekranz ;-) Es ist stylisch, hip und für den schnellen Kaffee ausgelegt. Diesen sollte man aber unbedingt genießen, denn die Qualität ist der Wahnsinn — volle 5 Sterne!!!

Hier gibt es leckeren soja cappuccino und soja latte mit Der speziellen Alpro sojamilch. Müsst ihr probieren!

Schöner Laden mit minimalistischem Design. Ein Besuch lässt sich super mit der Marheinekemarkthalle in Kreuzberg verbinden. Vielfältige Auswahl an Kaffees (auch Brüh-​Varianten) und Macha-​Tee. Noch ein wenig mehr Auswahl an Gebäck /​Kuchen dazu wär super.

Das Chapter One liegt etwas versteckt in einer Seitenstraße am Marheinekeplatz. Wenn man reinkommt, merkt man sofort, dass sich dort alles um Kaffee dreht. Die Mitarbeiter sind super nett und beraten gerne.
Der Kaffee selbst ist handwerklich großartig gemacht — ich trinke am liebsten den Flat White — die geschäumte Milch ist praktisch immer perfekt. Einziges Manko für mich: Die verwendeten Bohnen sind mir etwas zu fruchtig, ich persönlich mags lieber etwas klasdischer. Trotzdem eine absolute Empfehlung.

OK, wie man in Deutschland einen Laden aufmachen kann ohne Toilette (trotz Sitzplätze drinnen und draußen) ist mir fraglich. Wollte kurz in einer Pause einen Kaffee trinken, musste dringend Pipi machen aber man ließ mich nicht sondern empfahl so pseudofreundlich eine Toilette in der Nähe. In die Markthalle sollte man gehen (kostet übrigens 50 Cent dort). Wer keine Toilette in seinen Laden baut (oder sie nicht freigibt) sollte keinen aufmachen. dürfen. Stimmung auch generell nur so halbfreundlich und unterschwellig irgendwie ätzend. Tschüss hat auch niemand gesagt. Ach ja, wie der Kaffee war weiß ich gar nicht mehr, jedenfalls kann er keinen so tollen Eindruck hinterlassen haben. Byebye Chapter none

Die unfreundliche und unprofessionelle Bedienung gibt den Kaffee einen bitteren Nachgeschmack.

Ich gehe gerne fort hin. Naja, die Show mit dem Filterkaffee ist nicht mein Geschmack, aber der Espresso ist sehr gut

Hier stimmt alles! Ein absolutes MUSS für Kaffeeliebhaber. Vor allem bei dem Slowcoffeeangebot kein vergleichbares Geschmackserlebnis weit und breit. man schmeckt quasi die Liebe zum Detaill heraus.

Tolle Bohne! Bin sehr begeistert vom Laden. Freundliche Inhaber, die auch mal Zeit für ein Schwätzchen haben und einem die Welt des Kaffees erzählen, wobei die echt Ahnung haben!

Ein Freund hat mich dahin geschleppt: Er hat mich gefragt, ob ich schon mal leckeren Filterkaffee getrunken hätte. Filterkaffee? Das ist doch dieses Omagetränk.

Mein Favorit. Guten Kaffee gibt es mittlerweile ja fast überall in Kreuzberg. Sehr guten auch bsweilen. Aber was Chapter one bietet ist eine ganz andere Liga. Meistens kriegt man mittlerweile den Kaffee von zwar engagierten aber doch ahnungslosen Servicekräften serviert, nicht aber so hier: Die beiden Betreiber machen den Kaffee, erzählen über die Sorten und haben eine echt sehenswerte Kaffeemaschine!

Make no mistake, the coffee at Chapter One is excellent. Aside from having a range of high-​quality beans to select from, C1 allows you to choose from a range of preparations — Syphon, Chemex, Aeropress, etc. However, the space barely allows one to enjoy their coffee in the time and comfort it warrants. Seating is extremely limited, and rather uncomfortable. Wifi is also not available, although there is really no appropriate space to set up a laptop either. Even if their coffee can’t quite compete, I would thus take Cuccuma, barely a block away, almost any day.

Berlin’s a city where the quality of coffee perches at two extremes: you can get a cappuccino with a push of a button in many quick-​stop bakeries or can enjoy a (quite dark) espresso in cafés that take their coffee more seriously, but without much wider variation and with filter coffee being an endangered species. i think this is changing, certainly with the rise of some really high-​quality small cafés and roasters, where the focus rests squarely on the COFFEE. (e.g. Five Elephant, Double Eye, The Barn, No Fire No Glory…).
the newbie to my list of favorites is Chapter One Coffee. this little shop’s location –on a shady residential street, just a short walk from the bustle of the u7 on Gneisenaustrasse and the Marheineke Markthalle– is really fantastically suited to taking a break and enjoying a good cup of coffee. you get the impression they’re still sorting out their layout — the stools on the sidewalk are simple and the spots for lingering inside are mostly counters on the walls, except for a cozy+covetable windowseat (see some pics here:
). this doesn’t bother me one bit — the sparse interior, with lovely weathered floor tiling and classic Werkstattlampen, gave me the feeling of being in a friend’s kitchen and drew me to linger at the counter, like I would when a friend is cooking…
…and maybe this is the point: front and center on the wooden counter is a Bonmac Hikari coffee siphon, with a trio of brewing pots looking a bit like a Buck Rogers chemistry set, especially when the heating elements are glowing. this vacuum technique –using water vapor to drive the brewing of a really pristine cup of coffee– may sound a bit foreign and that’s because, at this point, Chapter One is the sole coffeebar in Germany that has such a device. this technique is all-​the-​rage in San Francisco now, where i feel it’s actually gone a bit wrong — people have gotten so locked in the *idea* of specialty brewing that price and snobbery have in some cases gotten out of hand. this couldn’t be more saddening, since siphoning coffee really does make a difference to the taste… and making this technique accessible is where Chapter One shines. all the beverages, from the usual run of espresso drinks to filter coffee to the siphon coffees, will take nearly the same time to make and run you about the same price. the owners, Nora and Björn, are excited to not only make damn good, locally-​sourced coffee (mostly from small roasters around Germany), but also to teach their patrons to get more out of their cup-​o-​joe (if they’re interested). this extends to their future goal for public coffee events, ranging from cuppings to lectures to brew trainings. there are afew tasty morsels at the counter –yummy muesli cookies made by Nora’s mom, shortbread, and franzbrötchen from a small Hamburg bakery– with simple sandwiches planned for down the road (e.g. ham+cheese from the owner’s relatives, on homemade bread). for now, though, the focus is –happily– on the brew.

Im Ernst, ich hasse den Kaffee in Berlin. Viel zu viel schlechter Kaffee für viel zu viel Geld. Dann bin ich in Nähe von Chapter One gezogen und muss sagen, dass der Espresso und Kaffee einfach nur schmeckt. Vollmundig und lecker. Der Laden ist schön eingerichtet. Zwar wenig bis keine Sitzplätze und eher für den To-​Go-​Bereich. Aber bester Kaffee Kreuzbergs!

The area has a few good coffee places already (Blinis, Cucuma) but this place is new and special. They have siphon and V60 and excellent espresso, made by Nora and Bjorn who are two of the best in the country.
