Café Luzia

One of my favorite bars in Berlin for the buzzy, relaxed atmosphere with a glaringly Berlin abandoned apartment feel. Came on a Wednesday at 20:00 and the place only had a few tables left and the large, wall-​length window was completely exposing the interior to the street. Service here was average, as usual (some nice, some a little too cool for school, some attentive, some a bit slow).
I usually get beer here, although the cocktails are decent as well. They’ve upgraded the mens room in the last few months, so it’s lost the dirtier than hell charm but at least it’s quasi clean and organized now and smells only a little.
Notes: they take cash only and this whole area around the bar has ZERO options for withdrawing money without a heavy surcharge. 3 blocks away there is a Berliner Bank, near Kotbusser Tor. Bring cash or you’ll have to take a trip or pay the financial system cash to get cash.

Hippe location, fancy Musik, verrsch. Getränke — aber so recht haut mich das Luzia nicht vom Hocker. Bierpreise sind ok, aber andere Getränke sind dann doch schon etwas teurer. Am Wochenenden scheint der Laden recht voll zu sein, sodass es mehrer Türsteher (!) bedarf, um den Überblick zu behalten… Das kann man dem Laden natürlich nicht zum Vorwurf machen, aber mir stellt sich die Frage, warum das so ist… Ihr seht, ich nörgele ohne konkrete Anhaltspunkte — mit einem check in macht ihr dennoch nichts falsch ;)

Etwas «zu inn» für Kreuzbgerer Verhältnisse. Gut: Nichtraucher (und ein kleiner witziger Raucherraum). Schlecht: Zu viele Touris, die besser in Mitte bleiben sollten gg

Great place. I think my hair grew a little while I was waiting for someone to acknowledge my presence on a semi-​busy Saturday afternoon, but that’s Berlin. If you’re looking for Hipster Ground Zero, this is it. The € 3 half liter beers is awesome! Great people watching, and non-​smoking rocks!

La atmósfera es muy buena, poquita luz, velas, decoración postindustrial… Tomamos un par de bebidas calientes con alcohol, un glühwein (bien hecho, no como en los sitios más pensados para turistas) y otra de la casa, con vodka, todo buenísimo. La música muy modernilla, sobre todo electrónica experimental. Precio moderado, gente entre los 20 y 35. Muy recomendable.

Super Location, interessante Leute. Leider muss man der Bedienung hinterherlaufen damit man seine Getränke bekommt. Es scheint auf den Tag anzukommen, auch bei der Zubereitung der Drinks ob man Glück hat oder nicht. Schade eigentlich, denn ich mag den Kiez sehr.

Für ein Bier zwischen durch perfekt. Bedienung kam sofort statt vollem Laden. Gutes Ambiente und gute Preise. Nichts zu bemängeln :)

Really nice place to chill and grab a drink with friends. The vibe is very relaxed and people are generally friendly.
Definitely stop by if you’re going out in Kreuzberg, prime location to start off!

Einmal reicht– one time is enough– das wichtigtuerische Gehabe an der Tür am Abend macht das Ganze nicht interessanter.

This place oozes cool. It’s so cool they don’t have to put the name on the door. All kinds of people, all kinds of furniture (perfectly mismatched, of course), and all kinds of cool (with the exception of a few of us posers).
The interior is black and yellow/​gold, and there are a couple of murals, illustrations of children, that I could see from where I was sitting. The bar serves beer, wine, and a few cocktails. There’s an Indian guy who walks through selling samosas out of a basket. It feels like Berlin.

I might cry writing this review just because I’m not in Berlin anymore and I spent a good chunk of my 3 months living in Kreuzberg at this place. I was right around the corner and it made the perfect local. Whether it was during the day to get my coffee fix while studying for class, or at night getting a drink with friends, it was the perfect spot. It definitely has that whole hipster decoration feel but it’s more than that. The bartenders became good friends (they’re ALL fantastic) and they put up a big screen during the world cup for the games and the place was filled with people cheering and bonding. It was the perfect hang out for any time of day, especially summer days when they opened up the big class wall windows and you could sit right on the cushioned ledges with a good book. I think about it all the time and can’t wait to go back! oh, and definitely not a touristy place, but lots of internationals, but that’s just Kreuzberg in general.

Brechend volle Großraumkneipe Schrägstrich Hipstercafé im Herzen von Kreuzberg 36 in unmittelbarer Nähe zum hübsch-​häßlichen Kottbusser Tor. Ich spare mir an dieser Stelle mal jegliches Hipster-​Bashing und konzentriere mich auf die Kernkompetenzen eines Trinklokals. Lieder macht es das nicht besser, denn das gezapfte Bier hat mit dem erhabenen Gerstensaft wenig am Hut und gleicht einer wässrigen Plörre, die am ehesten noch mit nem Pilsator vom Späti mithalten kann. Die international gesinnte Bedienung runzelt während der Verzapfung munter die Stirn ob der deutschsprachigen Bestellung und verbessert den Gesamteindruck damit nur minimal. Von der Einrichtung her aber recht schön und im wahrsten Sinne goldig.

Entspanntes, angenehmes Café, mit grossen Fenstern, die sich zur Strasse hin öffnen, das sich am Abend zu einer engen, von allerlei entspanntem Hipster-​Folk und anderen netten, alternativen Leuten bevölkerten Bar entwickelt. Shabby chic wie in Berlin öfter gesehen, aber individuell und charmant interpretiert mit netten kleinen Details in der Inneinrichtung. Das Servicepersonal ist freundlich und die Atmosphäre ist entspannt.

Cool bar with cool people in it. I liked the small dance floor (really small!) in the back and the fact that within bar area you’re not allowed to smoke. Def’ worth a visit.

Right at the heart Of Kreuzberg. Really cool open minded international here.
There is a slight hipsterisch touch, that I am personally not so much into, but still the vibe is very friendly and relaxed.
Prices for a big beer are moderate (3.5 EUR), and it offers a lot of space for you and your (new friends)

Ich war angenehm überrascht und fand es echt gut, gemütliche Sofas im Kerzenschein, gute Getränkeauswahl und –preise, angenehme Musik im Hintergrund, gutes Publikum, was will man mehr? Ein paar mehr Sitzmöglichkeiten im hinteren Bereich würden allerdings aus meiner Sicht nicht schaden.

I would absolutely not recommend going there! The staff is super unfriendly. The place is a normal café with lack of hygiene. Dirty and dark, warm beer, rude barkeepers Besides, they suddenly decided that they need a bouncer as a café?! My friend told me that she used to go there as a regular customer during the day. Later on her and another friend wanted to go there for a drink. Surprisedly, there was this beastly bouncer. He was a young man that looked like a teenage boy, telling my friend they were not dressed appropriately. What a joke This filthy café has a dress-​code?! This is not Kreuzberg

Wirklich enttäuschend!Erst der 3. Saft auf der Karte war bestellbar, Moscow Mule statt Gurke ohne Hinweis mit Orange :(Und keine Heissgetränke mehr ab 20 Uhr ?!? Ganz katastrophal war das siffige Klo!
Eher wie ein Disko-​Klo um vier Uhr nachts:
Warmwasserhahn war ab, Klopapier und Wasser auf dem Fußboden, Das können dann auch die schönen Zeichnungen an der Wand und die Live Künstler dann nicht wett machen.

Wir waren nur recht kurz drin, und sind wieder raus, weil die Bedienung uns ignoriert hat. Aber schön sieht’s drin aus.

Das Luzia ist eine Berliner Institution. Mittlerweile findet man jedoch Gott sei Dank nurnoch wenig der ich bin so cool ich bin ein ur-​berliner typen sondern auch mehr tolerantes ausländisches Publikum, darunter sehr viele interessante und unterschiedliche Menschen. Die Einrichtung find ich persönlich recht ansprechend und wenn es nicht übervoll ist, sind die Bedienungen auch ganz nett und bedienen sogar am Tisch.
Das gößte Highlight des Luzia ist die Party auf der Straße während der 1. Mai (Myfest) Veranstaltung, dort hab ich schon die witzigsten Dinge erlebt.

Mit einer Freundin war ich vor ein paar Tagen dort. Leider kann ich fast alles vorherige (negativ) Geschriebene nur bestätigen. Okay, zwei positive Dinge, obwohl recht voll fanden wir schnell einen Sitzgelegenheit mit Tisch und über das Barpersonal kann ich mich aber nicht schlecht äußern. Sie waren
eifrig bei der Sache, vielleicht etwas maulfaul, aber was soll’s, und
die Gläser wurden von den Tischen auch recht schnell abgeräumt und abgebrannte Kerzen ausgetauscht. Meine Begleitung (obwohl nicht Hipster oder Touri) ist zwar begeistert von dem Café, ich war es nicht. An demAbend gab es sogar eine Performance. Gut, über Kunst lässt sich streiten, aber was dort angeboten wurden, war eine Beleidigung für das Wort Kunst. Viel zu laut, viel zu nervig und absolut nicht begeisterungswürdig. Von den Bierpreisen kann ich sagen, haben sie sich stadttypisch angepasst. 3,00 EUR bzw. etwas mehr oder weniger für 0,5 l, gehen gerade noch so. Im gutbetuchten Charlottenburg regen sich die Gäste diverser Lokalitäten (Kino, Kneipe, Bar) über einen solchen Preis auf, hier ist es anscheinend völlig in Ordnung. Einen weiteren Besuch hier schließe ich dennoch aus.

For once, a bar that I like. Not that I have a high standard in bars, nor is it the case that I go out a lot. But this one just scored rather high in my book.
I was here earlier for a meet-​up with some international folks; we were there early evening, around 7:30, so it wasn’t crowded yet. I got a glass of Riesling for 4,00 EUR. It was potent. And yes, they have the standards; lots of beer offerings, and a variety of cocktails are also in the books.
I like the interior; this is more swanky than divey. Think somewhere between hipster and trendy, wherever that line is. The interior is clean (with the exception of the restroom, where the walls are filled with graffiti, but when you’re drunk, it’s not like you’d care), but more importantly, smoking is NOT allowed inside. As a non-​smoker, I like that, so that I can be there for hours and not come out smelling like a chimney.
Overall, I like the place. Service is prompt, and I’d be more than willing to bring friends there if needed.

Been there in a mid week evening with a friend living in Kreuzberg (AKA: Xberg).
Quite busy, almost packed, good music in the background and good beer, not over-​priced.
I will not join the anti-​tourist wave by saying that there were too many American hipsters (though maybe some might think so), but it was quite international.
All in all, I will pop in before my next visit to SO36 or something.

I stumbled upon Club Luzia during the day when it was raining and I wanted a place to sit, get a drink, and figure out the rest of my sightseeing for the day. The place is very airy, spacious and adorably decorated with mismatched second hand chairs and tables. The staff is very helpful and speak enough English to explain what each of the foreign (to us) beers are like so we could make our decision. Ironically, we were planning on returning here later in the week as TimeOut described it as «the linchpin of Oranienstrasse.» We didn’t realize it would be the same place. I am very glad that we got to see it during the day because it was SO crowded at night that I don’t think we could have appreciated the décor. The crowd is very cool and spanning many ages, but I found it to be VERY warm. So be prepared for that. It is very lovely during the day or when it’s not crowded though.

Der Laden ist typisch Berlin. Es wurde minimalst investiert, die Barkeeperin wusste den Preis meines Weins nicht und sprach kein deutsch (but wi ar internäschenäl, also kein Problem), die Möbel sind vom BSR-​Hof. Trotzdem (oder deshalb?) geh ich gern abends auf einen Wein mit Freunden hin, wenn sonst gerade nichts los ist und wir nicht feiern wollen.
Musik war immer ganz gut (Electro, nicht zu laut, so dass man reden konnte) und die Leute sind hauptsächlich Touristen. Aber ist nicht schlimm. Die beissen nicht.

nice coffee, service is hit-​or-​miss. Particularly lovely in the summertime when you want a nice lounge on a busy street. Smoker’s lounge is quite cute. Alcoholic beverages pretty pricey. Good if you feel in the mood for a bit of hipster vibe. No W-​LAN however!!! get with the times people!

Abends oft sehr voll, aber gute DJs. Man sollte mit dem Barpersonal möglichst nicht deutsch sprechen, sie verstehen einen eh nicht…

Mein Gott, was habe ich dem einen Abend, als ich da war, geschwitzt! Es war draussen noch recht kalt aber drinnen ist man schir eingegangen. Und ich war definitiv nicht die Einzige, der es so ging. Die Musik und der Menschenmix waren ganz nett und die Lage ist auch nicht schlecht, wenn man plant weiterzuziehen. Die Bedienung ist ziemlich langsam, was bei den Besuchermengen eher ungeschickt ist.
Nichtdestotrotz fand ich es ganz nett und man kann mal reinschauen.

Ich war hier drin ohne zu ahnen, dass der Laden «in» ist. Wir sind ganz normal reingekommen. Der vermeintliche Türsteher hatte wohl gerade seine Gewerkschaftspause :-)
naja, jedenfalls ein angenehmes Ambiente, wenn man den Stil gebraucht alte Möbel, abbröckelnder Putz an den Wänden mag.
Ich/​wir haben uns wohl gefühlt. Einzig der Raucherbereich ist nicht besonders gut vom Café getrennt (dafür optisch allerdings sehr ansprechend), so dass es im ganzen Café nach Zigaretten riecht. Wie in den alten Tagen.

If you plan on going there and you agree with the anti-​hipster song (
) you should probably reconsider Luzia as your place of choice. Personally, my uni mates and I chose it as our Tuesday night local (Wednesdays off — wohoo). Even though the location — one has to love Oranienstr and the interior — are amazing and most definitely worth 5 stars, it has to be pointed out, that bar staff is too cool to work and love nothing more than having the longest conversation about latest fashion trends while you’re waiting for your beer. Furthermore, in the afternoon when Kreuzberg around this area turns a little into Mitte and Café Oberholz with illuminated Apple signs spreading through the café landscape. So maybe due to that or just out of pure ignorance it’s hard to understand why they don’t offer wifi at all. Having said that — lack of speed and internet unfortunately make them lose their 5 star everything.
Make an effort to look nice (up to your definition) on weekends in order not to hear «oh, sorry — we have a private party tonight». Private meaning «you kinda don’t fit in».

I love this area of Berlin. You really feel that you are in a world-​city here, with it’s many mid-​eastern european restaurants, cool shops, bars and more.
When I’m there I just love having a nice coffee at Luzia in the afternoon… just watching people or reading a book.
The place looks very cool with it’s golden walls, street art on the walls and very good lighting.

Erschreckend, wie viele negative Beurteilungen es hier gibt. War nur unter der Woche zur Mittagszeit hier und hatte kein Problem mit dem Personal. Es waren allerdings maximal 20 Gäste da. Daher kann ich mir schon vorstellen, dass am Wochenende bei Vollbesetzung und mit Türsteher (!) es hier anders zugeht. Für mich war der Service ok, das Ambiente mit den geöffneten Fenstern sehr gut.
Der Schmuddel-​Look ist hier zwar Konzept, läuft aber etwas Gefahr, ins Unhygienische abzudriften.
Ich meld mich wieder, wenn ich mal abends und am Wochenende da war…

Absolut nett, vor dem Tresen und hinterm Tresen! Mancheiner kommt dahin, weil man auch als sexuell unentschlossene® dort seine Laden gefunden hat. Das Essen schmeckt, der Kaffee auch und die Räumlichkeiten sind einfach nur schön! Große Fenster und obwohl man drinnen sitzt, entgeht einem null komma nix vom trubelnden Leben der Ostrasse (als OHHH strasse zu lesen! für Oranienstrasse!)
Ein Laden als gutes Beispiel was aus dem kämpferischen und alternativen Xberg so rauszuholen ist!
Auch nachts ist das Café angenehm und wandelt sein Tageskleid zu einer Szenebar, von der man in die weitere Nacht ausströmt, oder einfach dort versackt, weil es eben echt nett ist!
Das Luzia ist allerdings kein Geheimtipp mehr! Nur so zur Info!

Um elf Uhr morgens beginnt langsam der Betrieb mit der Zustellung der Suppen vom Zulieferer. Die Putzfrauen haben den gestrigen abend ungeschehen gemacht und sind gerade auf den Weg in den verdienten Feierabend. Die Anlage spielt bereits einen Elektromix. Im LUZIA beginnt der Tag eher gemütlich…
Was am Vor– und Nachmittag eher wie ein nettes Cafè mit Szene-​Ambitionen erscheint, verwandelt sich im Laufe des Abends in einen internationalen Treff der «Nouvellle Bourgoisie» — einer Künstler– und Kreativenbörse mit dem ganzen Charme, den die Oranienstraße zu bieten hat.
Ob zum Kaffee, zum Arbeiten mit dem MacBook oder zum Feiern am späteren Abend, das LUZIA bietet einen großen und vielfältigen Blumenstrauß an Gelegenheiten, sich mitten in Berlin als Teil einer weltoffenen und teilweise etwas zur Schau getragenen jungen Avangarde zu fühlen, die sich von Montag bis Sonntag fast rund um die Uhr selbst am Feiern ist. Geht natürlich nicht immer — aber das Luzia muss man einfach mögen.

Als ich in der Oranienstraße gewohnt habe, fand ich es eher schade, dass das Luzia geöffnet wurde. Ich finde, dass es nicht so gut hier in die Gegend passt und es ist im Sommer immer überfüllt und mir ist es eine Spur zu hip.
Ein paar Mal habe ich es mir angesehen und muss leider gestehen, dass die Bedienungen doch etwas verpeilt sind (wogegen ich grundsätzlich nichts habe, wenn ich mich in einem Club oder auf sonst einer Party befinde, aber in einem Café ist es doch etwas fehl am Platz).
Die Wochenende sollen allerdings toll sein, habe ich mir erzählen lassen. Es läuft gute Musik und die Stimmung ist immer top — ich werde auf jeden Fall nochmal einen Abstecher dorthin machen und es mir mit feuchtfröhlicher Laune ansehen.

The first time I came here I was totally captivated by the gold walls, awesome mismatched furniture and lighting fixtures and chill atmosphere. I had a great time hangin with a friend at one of the tables. That was a Tuesday.
The next time I could barely find room to stand and each trip to the bar was an epic struggle through crowds of unyielding hipsters. Each trip to the bathroom was the same except it involved pushing through the tiny «dance floor» (aka 2m square of space in front of the DJ crammed full of people) and with a long line waiting on the other side. That was a Saturday.
Both times featured acceptable music, expensive drinks, a crappy bathroom and dismissive bartenders.
A fun stop for a weekday drink but not worth the weekend crowds.

Une ambiance très intime et véritablement sympathique. Les serveurs le sont aussi.

Un bon bar à Kreuzberg, immense, avec une déco en noir, gris et or négligée-​sophistiquée. Les prix sont cool, la musique aussi. Les gens sont branchouilles et sympas, pas mal d’oiseaux de nuit aussi.

Très bon bar, genre chic et trash, plein de gens beaux. Musique chic, du coup. Et pourtant, reste pas cher.
Bön c’est un classique de Kreuzberg celui-​là, donc si vous cherchez un truc un peu plus confidentiel ou moins blindé, y’a ailleurs quoi.

Bar de caractère à l’ambiance et éclairage très réussi, un peu dans la lignée du Bellman, mais moins intimiste. Il ont par ailleur d’excellent coktail.

Absolutely rammed on a Saturday, this café bears no resemblance to one at night! Decent tunes, loads of people, cheap drinks, nice décor and a really cool upstairs seating area that you have to climb a ladder to get to. Decent.
