Buchbox!

I always have a love-​hate relationship with non-​chain and small-​scale bookshops. On the one hand, I like the fact that there are these small bookstores that cater to the needs of the neighborhood. However, due to the fact that they are small, they couldn’t carry enough titles to make a good selection.
I was here the other day, browsing for postcards. They had several racks on display, but given the fact that they were selling it for at least 1,20 EUR per piece, I didn’t buy any. If I can get interesting and unique postcards for 1,00 EUR, I wouldn’t pay more just to support a lovely neighborhood bookstore.
I also browsed at their books. They don’t have a lot. Of course, I am guessing they can order books in case there isn’t any on stock. But sometimes, there are people who just buy books by browsing the shelves. They had a small travel section, yet the travel books they had are sometimes already outdated. That being said, travel books are tricky; information gets old the moment you publish them.
I guess it might be advisable to concentrate on just one genre and be a specialty bookstore. That way, people would definitely flock to the place and see what they have. But if you’re a neighborhood bookstore, then customers are easy to be lured by online bookstores like Amazon. After all, they have more choices.

Und ich dachte, ich hätte was entdeckt. Eine Kette. Tssss. Kettchen ;-)
Weil ich Berlin nicht besonders mag, kann ich Literatur dazu auch nicht empfehlen. Hier lag auf jeden Fall eine Menge davon herumdideldumm. Wir fahr’n nach Lodz!
Außerdem kann ich nicht, will ich nicht und darf ich nicht lesen.
Na wird’s bald?

Eine Buchhandlung die, so gut wie, täglich bis 20 Uhr geöffnet ist, direkt vor der Tür das war vor ein paar Jahren noch undenkbar in Berlin.
Ich gehe täglich an der Buchbox vorbei und bleibe mindestens ein mal pro Woche stehen. Sehe mir die neue Bücherauslage an, blätter in den Zeitschriften, kaufe eine Postkarte für Omi oder irgend einen Krims Krams. Es gibt Bücher auf deutsch, englisch, spanisch und französisch und immer Sonderangebote.
Es gibt dort schon lange einen Mitarbeiter den wir den Elfen nennen, wenn ihr hingeht werdet ihr merken wiso, er ist magisch, da macht das ganze doppelt Spaß.
Es werden Lesungen abgehalten, auch für Kinder!

Ich hatte Berlin schon abgeschrieben, gedacht, gute Kunst-​Mode und Architektur Bücher bekommt man nur in London oder NY. Bis ich dieses Kleinod entdeckte. Neben der kompletten Palette von Moleskine finden sich ausgefallenen Design-​Zeitschriften aus Tokyo und Bildbände über Modedesign. Aussergewöhnlich auch die extrem kompetente Beratung der Kunstbuchhändler. Wäre ich nur etwas reicher-​ich würde den kompletten Laden kaufen!
