Barcomi’s Deli

This lovely New York Style deli has become a Berlin icon due to the fame of its creator, Cynthia Barcomi, who has now written several cookbooks. The café itself is a little hard to find (the entry is in a courtyard off Sophienstraße, just turn down the alley at ‘21’) but once you’re within the courtyard, you’ll feel comfortably relaxed amongst warm brick and climbing ivy.
Barcomi’s café menu is perfectly ‘New York style’, boasting traditional bagels, cinnamon rolls, deli meats and tasting plates to share (their vegetarian plate contains a range of dips, salads, cheeses and fresh fruits). Service was a little slow, however staff were pleasant and portions were generous (I had enough peanut butter for four bagels within an individual ramekin… oh wait, is that just American style? I should ask Judge Judy).
As per most new venues in Berlin, Barcomi’s coffee was creamy and robust, with just enough bitterness to offset a slice of baked vanilla cheesecake. Which we had, of course… a Big Apple dining experience seemed incomplete without it!
As per the name, Barcomi’s is also a functioning take-​away delicatessen with many cold meats, cheeses, deli rolls and bakery items available for purchase. Cynthia’s cookbooks are also on sale, if you’d like to try your hand at a Barcomi special from the comfort of your own kitchen.
Note that this place gets super-​crowded on bright, sunny days due to its airy courtyard and accessible location. Arrive early or you may have to resort to take-​aways.

Its location is really cool.
You should try Marble cheesecake.
It was good but a little bit overcrowded.

Der Kaffee war sehr sehr lecker, mein Bagel mit Hummus ebenfalls. Die Speisen der übrigen Gäste sahen auch allesamt zum anbeißen aus, leider muss man sich beim Besuch ja für etwas entscheiden ;-).
Einziges kleines Manko (daher auch ein * Abzug) ist die Lautstärke. Ich war in der Adventszeit dort und es war proppenvoll, durch die offene Gestaltung der Räume kam da schon eine Geräuschkulisse zusammen.

Hervorragender Kuchen und leckere Kaffees in sehr angenehmer und entspannter Atmosphäre. Super fand ich auch, dass man einen Probierteller bestellen kann wo man vier halbe Stück Kuchen auswählen kann-​Falls man sich nicht entscheiden kann…
Service war sehr aufmerksam und auch sehr schnell!

Wollten unbedingt frühstücken auch noch um 12 Uhr Mittags. Auf Unilocal haben wir diesen Tipp bekommen. Dieser laden bietet bis 21 Uhr, Frühstück” an. Der Innenhof ist super gemütlich und einladend. Auch der Innenraum macht einen netten Eindruck. Man findet in der Karte kein klassisches Frühstück mit Rührei und Bacon. Nette, interessante Kleinigkeiten zum zusammenstellen. Unter anderem Bagels und Sandwiches. Sehr nette, aufmerksame Bedienung. Der Kaffee ist sehr lecker. Preise sind vollkommen angemessen. Unter anderem bietet dieses Deli auch unzählige Sorten an Kuchen an. Sieht alles sehr gut aus. Nur weiterzuempfehlen

Allerbestes Frühstück, gebracht von geduldigen, liebenswerten Menschen in angenehmer Atmosphäre. Großartige Auswahl, viele leckere Kuchen, zig Kaffeesorten, Milchsorten, Brote, etc…

Had an excellent chutney chicken salad and an INCREDIBLE blueberry cheesecake. I would also recommend a bagel over sandwich on normal bread.

Ok the spot is nice yes but the customer experience is underwhelming. The quiche I got pre made, heated up in an microwave and the the ham looked white instead of pink. I suggested using a little oven instead of a microwave so that the dough stays crispy. That pissed them already of. Even as a German I had expected more.

Zweimal besuchte ich Barcomo’s bisher. Leider wird die Küche gegen 21 Uhr geschlossen, also unbedingt eher da sein wenn man abends noch warm essen möchte. Nachmittags sind die Torten allerdings mein Anziehungspunkt Nummer 1. (Und ja, insgeheim wünsche ich mir den Birthday Cake zu meinem Geburtstag zu bekommen ;)
Meine Begleitung und ich bestellten zwei verschiedene Stückchen, deren Namen mir leider eben entfallen sind. Beide waren jedoch reichlich groß und äußerst lecker. Für eine süße Sünde komme ich gerne wieder!
Außerdem erinnert mich das Barcomi’s ein bisschen an Extraordinary Dessert, was in San Diego mein absoluter Favorite spot war.

Mein absoluter Lieblingsladen in Berlin. Zwar schon lange kein Geheimtip mehr und mit Touristen übersäht, aber erstklassige Speisen, sehr leckerer Kaffee, ein erstklassiges Ambiente und ein super Service (außer die letzten beiden male. Da hatten wir leider einen Kellner, der gar nicht ging…)
Vor allem wenn man draußen sitzen möchte, ist eine Reservierung dringendst empfohlen.

Schönes Café an einer schönen Location. Die Küchen sind natürlich krass, danach braucht man grundsätzlich eine Woche lang nichts mehr zu sich nehmen. Ich empfehle einen Cortado und einen von Barcomi’s köstlichen Cheesecakes! Danach nicht vergessen noch im Gestalten Space gegenüber vorbeizuschauen!

Super leckere Kuchen und Torten, dazu eine Tasse Tee… mhhhhh wunderbar!
Nette Bedienung, schöné Einrichtung, mehr kann ich dazu nicht sagen.

What a lovely restaurant. We both had the lox bagels for breakfast, which were scrumptious. The coffee was good too. I didn’t partake, but I was happy to see lots of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-​free options on the menu.
The courtyard must be a welcome respite from busy Hackescher Markt when it’s nice out (it was raining when we went, so we didn’t eat out there). Inside, it’s pretty standard café seating, with some booths thrown in. Very cozy and nice lighting.

Location is cool, especially the between buildings quadrangle courtyard setting. Food is ok, but more expensive than your typical Berlin hood café. I expected great things from the sandwiches, given their American inspiration. Specifically, I expected a better ratio of meat to bread, which is now the standard in places like NY, and the downfall of most sandwiches one can buy in Europe. Unfortunately, the sandwiches seem to fall into the usual European sin. So if you come here expecting a Chicken salad sandwich which delivers heavy chunks of chicken after every bite, you will be dissapointed, and are advised to build that chunky delight in your own kitchen. If, on the other hand, you are one of those who enjoys pretending that more bread and less meat should be the rule in days long past the Great Depression, then you might enjoy delivering € 12 for some exotic loaf and a cup of coffee. Young children seem to enjoy the waffles, and express their delight rather vociferously.

Tolles Ambiente. Nettes Personal. Große Auswahl, gutes Angebot. Überteuerte Preise. Geschmacklich gut aber nicht überragend.

War zum Frühstück hier.
Die Location ist etwas hallenartig, wirkt aber ganz nett und modern.
Wartezeiten waren auch okay, da gibts nix zu beanstanden. Mein Baguette war zwar lecker, aber ziemlich überteuert (um die 7 Euro), da hätte ich schon mehr erwartet… Cappuccino war geschmacklich sehr gut, aber etwas zu lauwarm, so dass dieser nach kurzer Zeit bereits kalt war. Schade!
Ich werds beim nächsten Berlin-​Besuch nochmal versuchen und schauen ob sich hier etwas getan hat.

Booked a 9-​Person Table for breakfast 2 months prior due to the Easter Weekend.
As my troop arrived ontime, we were escorted to the right wing in to kinda larger hall. Quite bistro-​like, with some unconfy chairs and narrow tables. The whole room is bright n tall-​ed ceiling. Pls concern the «noise» as soon as its filled with customers.
I had one Cappuccino and a kinda petit-​four consists of 4x half cakes of your choice. The plate is marked with 7,50 € .My betterhalf n I picked Devil, NYC & Blueberry Cheescake n Carrot Cake which were good. But only the Carrot Cake could impress me.
The Cappuccino wasnt bad afterall but I’d rather zip my coffee n munch my cake somewhere else. My recommendation would be if you are around in a group since you could find loads cozier place nearby anyway.

I’ll never come back to Barcomi’s after today. I just got ripped off for a few slices of salami, white bread with mayo, & pickles for € 7+. Definitely going for a falafel next time. They asked me how it was & all they could say was sorry… Haha Don’t ask if you can’t own up to your shortcomings… Yeah 1 star cause it tasted exactly like I described, something I could make myself but not even as good. For that price I would have 4x the amount of food. This tasted like a sandwich from the place that charges € 2 at the Alexanderplatz metro. A bratwurst from the street is phenomenally better than what I just ate

Barcomi’s Deli offers really delicious food, especially the bagles are worth trying! We normaly went there for brunch to start the day with a good load of energy. The remarkably good coffee boosts you up perfectly and the cinamon rolls (with butter!) and other bakeries make sure your stomach gets full.
Still, there is a drawback, which hasn’t changed since I’ve come there the first time in 2012: the long waiting time for ordering, food, and bill. Although the staff is nice and seems to care about their guests, there is still a lot of improvement to be done in that area.

Du stehst irgendwie auf Bahnhofshallenatmosphäre und einen konstant hohen Lärmpegel — dann bist Du hier genau richtig. Und wenn es so wie heute auch noch feucht draußen ist, bekommst Du die Sauna gleich noch umsonst dazu. Da half dann auch das Querlüften nichts, außer dass einige Gäste zwangsläufig im Zug saßen. (Aber passt ja irgendwie zu dem Wortspiel mit der Bahnhofshalle.)
Anyhow — die Kuchenauswahl sehr ansprechend — dürfte wohl für jeden Geschamck etwas dabei sein. Und auch die anderen Speisen sahen alle sehr frisch und yummy aus. Das Preisniveau kannst Du ja selbst in der Online-​Karte nachsehen — vergleichbare Qualität bekommst Du auch für weniger in Berlin. Die Getränke auch guter Durchschnitt, aber wirklich ungerechtfertigt ist ein zusätzlicher Euro beim Doubleshot!
Der Service startete im Eingangsbereich mit absolutem Toplevel und fiel am Tisch dann auf sehr mäßig ab. Die Servicekraft am Eingang war wirklich auf Draht, konnte mich sofort meinen Freunden zuordnen und leitete mich an den Tisch; dem Service am Tisch fehlt nach der aufgegeben Bestellung die Aufmerksamkeit und somit auch jegliches Interesse an Nachfragen zu potentiellen weiteren Bestellungen. Aber ist wohl bei einer «Massenabfertigung» nicht anders möglich — trotz hohem Personaleinsatz.
Zum Ambiente und der Gesamtatmosphäre — insgesamt freut es mich natürlich für Barcomi’s Deli, wenn es voll ist. Aber wenn sich die Gäste stapeln und auf Tische warten, leidet zumind. mein Wohlfühlfaktor. Ein voller Saal mag ja was haben, aber Sitzmöbel ohne jegliches Flair, etliche Gäste und keine schallschluckenden Maßnahmen führten dann doch zu meinem Gesamtresümee von lediglich 2 Punkte. Denn eigentlich fühlte ich mich eher wie bei einem Kantinenbesuch als bei einem netten Sonntagskaffee.
Ergo — zumind. für einen Sonntagsplausch von meiner Seite keine Empfehlung. Weniger ist manchmal halt mehr…

I have been coming to Barcomis for years now and they keep raising prices to a ridiculous level. Their club sandwich (something i have been getting every Sunday for years.) costs 8 € now (take out price!).
Bravo Barcomis, way to lose your regular visitors, i hope it was worth it.
Never again.

Das Positive: das Essen ist unglaublich lecker, frisch und fantastisch zubereite. Ich war dort sowohl zum Lunch als auch zum Nachmittagskaffee. Der Kuchen ist etwas teurer jedoch sein Geld wert! Die selbstgemacht Limo ist genial.
Das Negative: wenn man in der Nähe der Bar sitzt ist es unangenehm laut, man hört die Spüle und das zubereiten der Getränke. Wenn man auf die Toilette muss, sollte man doch vorher die Gummistiefel anziehen, das was ein Schock. Als ich hier vor zwei Jahren war, waren die «Örtchen» nicht SO heruntergekommen. Das ist renovierungsbedürftig!

Nice place for sandwich or great cake! Take the probierteller which is 4 half pieces of cake so you can try!

Barcomis ist ein angenehmes Deli wo du rundumdieUhr Frühstücksplatten und Sandwiches bekommst.
Ich mag das Frühstück und die Salate sehr, vor allem der Rucolasalat hat es mir angetan.
Die Preise sind ok, aber für Mitte schon günstig.
Der Service ist zum grossen Teil nett nur ab und zu sticht jemand ein wenig negativ raus.
Der Kuchen ist so lala meiner Meinung nach, aber jedem das seine!

i love this deli. it can get loud & busy but the friendly staff will never make you feel anything less than welcome! the breads & bagels are delicious & the cakes are to kill for.

Ohne Hunger, nur mit ein bisschen Kaffeedurst ausgestattet auf der Suche nach einer guten Ecke, um zu sitzen und zu reden — hier gut fündig geworden! Wunderbares Ambiente (sicher im Sommer draußen noch besser!) plus unaufdringlicher, trotzdem aufmerksamer Service. Sehr schön, gerne wieder — und dann probiere ich den Kuchen, der in der Vitrine so toll aussah.

Barcomi’s ist natürlich bekannt:
Mehrere Standorte, große Karte, auf der man von Snacks über Frühstück bis zu Kaffee und Kuchen alles finden kann und natürlich auch der ins Café integrierte Verkauf von Merchandise-​Artikeln wie Kochbüchern.
In Mitte ist das Café äußerst schön und etwas versteckt in den Sophienhöfen gelegen, was im Sommer, wenn man draußen sitzen kann, einfach toll ist, da man ruhig im Hinterhof sitzt. Dazu Superleckerer selbst gebackener Kuchen (der Carrot Cake ist ein Traum!) und leckerer Kaffee. Der Service könnte teilweise in Sachen Freundlichkeit noch eine Schippe nachlegen, ich habe bisher aber noch keine Totalausfälle erlebt.
Leider sitzt man in dem sehr großen Innenraum des Cafés sehr eng und nicht besonders gemütlich. Zusätzlich wird es durch das offene Konzept doch sehr schnell bahnhofshallenartig laut. Die Preise sind Mitte-​Standard.
Zusammengefasst kann ich sagen, dass ich aufgrund des leckeren Angebots vor allem im Sommer gern im Barcomi’s vorbei schaue, im Winter aber dann doch eines der anderen Cafés, die kleiner, ruhiger und gemütlicher sind, bevorzuge.

A neighborhood kind of feeling. The outdoor patio allows for the perfect amount of natural light and is pleasant with its brick/​vine. Certainly a great place to relax with a coffee.
The food is what you’d expect a good NY deli to have. The sandwiches are gigantic! The club was easily enough for two (if you threw in a dessert). Not a bad helping for the price. The cheesecake is pretty good as well (but wasn’t as amazed as the other reviewers).
Overall, I advise grabbing a coffee+dessert and enjoying the outdoor patio.

Gestern war ich mal wieder im Barcomi’s. Ich liebe diesen Innenhof in der Sophienstraße. Hier ist es immer etwas kühler und wirklich entspannt obwohl es brummt wie ein Bienenstock, weil dieses Café wirklich immer gut besucht ist. Wir hatten einen Iced Cappuccino und eine Kuchen-​Probierplatte. Diese war wirklich toll! Vier halbe Stücken, die ehrlich gesagt fast genauso groß waren, wie die richtigen. Kostenpunkt 6,90 € ist dafür daher echt okay. Sonst finde ich die Preise typisch touristisch gepfeffert. Daher der eine Stern Abzug. Sonst ist eigentlich immer alles ganz zufriedenstellend. Man wird schnell und sehr freundlich bedient und es wird häufig gefragt, ob alles zur Zufriedenheit ist etc. Für einen entspannten Kaffee nach einem Bummel am Hackeschen Markt ist das Café wirklich zu empfehlen. Man vergisst quasi, dass man mitten in der City ist.

Espresso Cheesecake ist vielleicht der beste Kuchen ich habe jemals gegessen. Ist voll und schwer wie eine ganze Mahlzeit.
Der Kaffee ist gut aber nicht wie ich erwartet hätte. Aber die Kuchen, ah, die Kuchen…

Wie schade, dass ich hier wohl meine Erinnerungen an leckere Studentenzeiten zu Grabe tragen muss.

Erfolg macht aus einem Bagel einen faden Gummibagel?
Erfolg macht aus einem Monster Brownie ein kümmerlich trocken-​krümeliges Etwas? Wo ist bloß das Monsterhafte hin — ich meine im positiven Sinne?
Erfolg macht gierig und aus heißem Wasser mit ein paar Minzestängeln 3,20 €?
Das Barcomi´s Deli ist nicht mehr das, was es einmal war…
Zumindest hing jedoch zu Weihnachten ein riesengroßer und wunderschöner Mistelzweig in der Toreinfahrt.
Ein Sternchen widme ich der Person, der diese romantische Geste einfiel.
Auch wenn das Küssen darunter nicht viele Kalorien zu verbrennen vermag ;o).
Nur eines ist seit Jahr und Tag unverändert legendär geblieben: Cynthia Barcomis Carrot Cake mit dem weltbesten Frosting!!! Zum Glück zum Mitnehmen.

Mr Mann surprised with a trip to Barcomi’s & some real bagels. We stopped by in the afternoon on a Saturday and — sadly! — our two 2 choices for bagel were out. SO many options — but we were really looking forward to onion & garlic. No matter. Some coffee and a bagel sandwhich made us feel just like home (USA).
The coffee comes in a wide variety and the smell absoutely fills the room. As Seattlites, that smell is like crack for us. Mmmmmmmm!
Desserts looked amazing & they had choclate chip cookies! We didn;t partake this time, but watch out cookies — I am coming for you.

Barcomi’s ended up being my favorite dining experience in Berlin. We rode bikes through the side streets to hunt out this hidden brick courtyard deli, where you can wheel your bicycles right through and park them next to your table.
A NY style deli, I couldn’t not go for a fresh bagel with homemade cream cheese (you can get Philadelphia, but why would you??). And I added a lovely coffee from south America (they have info on their extensive coffee offerings on their website, score!).
Husband got a quiche and a lemon tart. All cakes and treats are vegetarian friendly, without any animal fats or gelatin. (If you’re lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant or vegan just ask, they are very on the up and up about that stuff).
It was a little on the pricey side, but considering their quality of ingredients and in-​house policy on making just about everything, I think it’s worth it. Service was really friendly and it was just a really relaxing, atmospheric stop in our day

A New York-​style deli tucked away in a courtyard, as if it were a natural oasis from the traffic of the city. There’s a deep menu of coffees, teas and bagels, in addition to a hearty selection of fresh sandwiches and tempting cakes.
I had a latte macchiato and a club sandwich, and both were unusually large and delicious. Like most of Berlin, the prices are cheap. Coffees are less than 3 EUR and sandwiches less than 7 EUR. A full meal for two people, tip included, shouldn’t top out over 20 EUR.

Super leckeres Frühstück. Das Brot ist der Wahnsinn, genauso wie der Kuchen. Auch Käse und Schinken haben top Qualität.
Der Kaffe hingegen hat mich nicht umgehauen ist aber auch nicht schlecht.
Am Wochenende sehr voll, fast immer Wartezeit auf einen Tisch.
Preislich mit rund 10 EUR für das Frühstück und 3EUR für Kaffe für Berliner Verhältnisse gehoben, aber auf jeden Fall gerechtfertigt.

The real discovery is not going to Starbucks or some bigass well known shop when you are visiting a city.
For late breakfast /​brunch… whatever, I decided to check out some spots you can’t find it at every corner and every mall. So I looked up on Unilocal.And I found Barcomi’s Deli.
It’s very inconspicuous, cuz it’s inside a courtyard. You cant really tell there is such a damn nice, cozy place unless you’ve founded already. So the price for the food is totally OK. I got me water and switched from hummus bagel sandwich to Club sandwich after the waitress recommended that.
I really do like that place. It has a certain cozy, big city urban vintage family style that makes you wanna stay here longer or even come more often.
Lucky me It was pretty empty when I got it and after an instant it was packed as hell. I wonder how people found that place haha.
AND they have a lot of yummy fresh cakes, tarts. deserts and american cupcakes.

Such a lovely place! Located in one of the sophienhoefe, it seems to be a little bit out of sight, but no doubts about that! Great location, great breakfast with bagels and sandwiches with fresh ingredients. As a former coffee place of course the serve perfect coffee in all different kinds and types ;) but best at all– try one of the cakes! REALLY REALLY GREAT! All a little bit more pricey but worth!

Un bar très sympa dans une cour typiquement berlinoise.
A la fois très agréable en été autour des tables installées dehors et les matins d’hiver pour prendre des forces pour affronter les frimas de l’hiver berlinois.
La nourriture proposée est simple avec notamment des pâtisseries typiquement allemandes. Et les cafés latte sont biens meilleurs que dans un Starbuck.

La gourmandise n’est pas un défaut
J’ai un vrai faible pour ce petit pain rond troué mieux connu sous le nom «Bagel «. Mais ce n’est pas encore tout parce que d’autres tentations comme des Cookies, Muffins et Brownies vous attendent. Sans parler des différentes sortes de café. Difficile de résister à ces délices.

Un endroit agréable
Oui, je pense comme Annabel Lee qu’il est agréable de discuter au Barcomi’s et tout particulièrement l’été sur la terrasse. L’endroit est calme dans une cour intérieure. Personnellement, je préfère le Barcomi’s de Mitte à celui de Kreuzberg.
