Fresh sandwiches and pastries are everywhere to be had in Berlin, from coffee houses to pastry shops to chocolatiers and places like Back-Werk. Located in the Berlin Hauptbahnhof central station, I was pretty impressed with the efficiency and swiftness with the crowds going through here. Grab your snack and drink, checkout and eat anywhere in the subway or train station. The layout is simple– get a quick meal or snack by perusing the sandwiches(baguettes, multi-grain sandwiches) and snacks(donuts, croissants, pastries), soda, water and a genius coffee machine that serves up delicious Italian coffees by the serving: espresso, latte, cappucino, coretto. Not Starbucks… Starbucks is 3 doors down same floor. What’s also secondly impressive here are the German bread sandwiches(coated with multigrains and seeds, really filling and good). Cheap and convenient you can get a bite at Back-Werk on the quick on your way to catch a subway or train. Visits: 5 Tip: Food is verboten in trains so, you can eat/drink outside or at Back-Werk. Starbucks is directly across from this if you’re jonesin’ for an American chain. But this chain does complement a Starbucks in a healthy sort of way.
