Liked this place a lot. Nice sunny outdoor seating. Good simple food and great coffee(not easy to find great coffee in Berlin). Nice employees and a good place to hang out. I had the eggs and bacon on toast, it was simple and good. They gave us a complimentary banana bread that was great! Will come back for sure.

Inevitably I ended up with a slight hangover in Berlin at one point, and through a quick Google we found this place near to our hostel. The fact that it was owned by a native English-speaker was the first thing that brought me to this place, but I also was mainly on a quest for bacon and eggs. I’ve never been to Australia, so I have no idea what breakfast there is like, nor have I ever really heard it raved about by anyone either, but oh man, if breakfast in Australia is like what I had here I need to book a flight immediately. Fresh green salad with mayo, bacon and avocado within my new favourite laugenecke bread with a greasy fried egg on the side was guaranteed to cure whatever was ailing me that morning. Add a delightful chai latte to the mix and I was feeling better soon after my meal. Décor was homey and comfortable. While I wouldn’t call the venue spacious it was not cramped, and it had a nice amount of sunlight seeping in through the windows without being glaringly bright. Really cute little spot that I definitely recommend. Also they have table service, which is very nice and their waiter was really friendly without being overly so(maybe he could tell we just wanted to eat in peace that morning).

My sister and I came across this little café on our last morning in Berlin. Amazing food, awesome service(run by a lovely New Zealander). Cute little handmade cards for sale as well. We also purchased some of the baked goods at the front(brownie was yummy). We recommend the fried egg on toast with bacon(be sure to add avocado! We’re from California and are skeptical of how they taste, but were pleasantly surprised).

A café-style breakfast and lunch place that wears its New Zealand style on its sleeve. It seems baristas from Down Under make the best coffee in Europe and Antipodes is one of Berlin’s contributions to that legend. Warm and welcoming staff. A small but well-curated menu is supplemented with a daily blackboard list: today, two soups, a leek and gruyère tart and a roast vegetable salad with salmon. Even more of a Kiwi treat, they bake all their own biscuits and slices, which line the counter in glass jars like an illustration from that NZ Classic, the Edmond’s Cookbook. Orange marmalade and coconut slice. Fig, date and coconut balls. Chocolate brownies. There’s always great music playing in an après-club Flying Nun mode. It’s such a homely place, customers clear their own plates to the counter just to be helpful. Lovely to sit outside in the afternoon if it’s sunny. Otherwise cosy inside. And just steps off the rush of Schonhauser Allee.

Friendly but very slow service put a bit of a downer on an otherwise decent breakfast. We had booked a table for 8 which seemed to overwhelm the kitchen — our orders came out in 3 batches with other tables getting their food inbetween! Food was good — standard scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado etc

What a lovely place to sit outside on a sunny day & get rid of your hangover with some eggs and bacon! Super friendly staff(the ‘honest’ kind of friendly), delicious coffees and good breakfast options. We had the scrambled eggs with bacon and the laugenecke with avocado and bacon. I have to say I was a bit jealous of the avocado egg breakfast that I saw someone else order, so give that a shot when you get there :-). Located in a quiet and pretty street near senefelder platz, we’ll definitely be going there more often!

Yummy, quick and great quality breakfast! And I also really liked strong coffee they serve. Everything is very fresh including the orange juice, so definitely worth going there :)

Super friendly service coupled with a proper good Australasian standard coffee and excellent food will make you a little homesick if you’re an expat, but will also make you super happy. Might have to wait a little but worth it for a proper bene!

Very mediocre food and extremely rude waitress. Had to send food back because eggs were too runny for me. I should’ve made a note up front but didn’t expect this much liquid. Bacon was very undercooked as well but I figured I could live with that. I asked they throw the eggs back on for a minute, apologized for the trouble and went back to wait with my friend. The restaurant was rather quiet at the time — maybe five people total. I waited for over ten minutes and even went to check at the counter and was ignored — quite a feat as it’s a very, very tiny place. I ended up splitting my friend’s meal which was just plenty of food anyway. Exactly when we cleaned the plate and pushed it aside, the snippy waitress shows up with my plate — including still wet and runny eggs. I was no longer hungry but didn’t really care, so I just thanked her. She must have seen the surprise on my face because she made a big deal of acting put out and annoyed and telling me it was my fault for not asking up front. It was uncomfortable and mean. I wasn’t complaining — I tried once, still came back under-cooked I was getting on with my vacation — no biggie. It was just a lot of negativity over nothing. Wouldn’t recommend this place for that reason alone.

The friendly staff at Antipodes make you feel really welcome. They make great breakfasts, unbelievable coffee and proper cups of tea. Their eggs and bacon on toast is out of this world. Anything is good with coffee this good though. They do pies and that kind of thing too, though I’ve never tried them.

Cute small café in the neighborhood. Lovely service. Free wifi! My husband really enjoyed the coffee, although mine was a bit bitter for my taste. The thing is that the breakfast menu looks super plain and simple so we were a little wary at first. When we received the dishes we were delighted by the thought that went into them. Beautiful dishes and delicious. We sat facing the street which is always fun in a city. Very very cozy :-)

Terrible! Overly peppered pies, breakfast sandwich SOAKED in oil, very slow service and an incredibly rude chef. Definitely not worth it for all the other decent cafés in the area.

What a lovely place. Gonna be my go-to for eggs and bacon breakfast, in fact I could say this was the first time I had a proper eggs and bacon in Berlin. The biscuits were all really, really tasty and the coffee was great too. As if that didn’t suffice, the servers are all incredibly professional, friendly and efficient. Bring you a glass of water as soon as you arrive, and keep it filled. This place is an island and I’m grateful to have found it. Kiwis rock.

My friend and I just left this place totally angry at the service we received. We came in and while the places wasn’t full, there were quite a few spaces filled. I used to come to this café when I lived in Prenzlauerberg a few years ago and really loved it. The owners were nice, the coffee and food were good. Unfortunately, as the reputation of the place has increased so has their service decreased, it seems. After an hour, my friend tried to sit at a table together. The owner saw us and asked if we would order food. I said yes. Then she said that she needed our table for three people and she needed to clean the table off immediately so we needed to move. I moved my coffee back to my original low-seat/back aching table and started to move my other things. She watched me move and then said, «you need to move your computer too.» Yes, lady because what I’m going to do is leave my computer at a table for strangers to use it. By this time, people had taken my friend’s seat, and all the other patrons were staring at us as we tried to shift our bags back to their original place. That’s not embarrassing at all. I should mention that the table next to us was taken up by two people and she didn’t say a word. There also was a man at a 4-top next to them by himself with only his drawings. We did have computers, it’s true, but we never saw a sign telling us not to use our computers and no one said anything when we came in. We left without ordering food, and only then, once she realized we weren’t going to stay, did the owner offer a half-hearted“apology” saying, «well you know, it’s a bit crazy with the computers.» Lady, please. Was it also crazy with the people sitting along the wall who didn’t order anything, or the guy who had one coffee and a table for four by himself? Or the other two people in the back corner with their own table? What it felt like was that my friend and I weren’t welcome for whatever reason.(Maybe I’m not hipster enough?) I won’t be giving them any more of my money. It’s a pity, because it used to be a really nice place.

I went to Antipodes during the summer 2013(last week of july). I looked forward to it A LOT as I had heard only great things about this place AND especially the coffee, but man, I was about to be disappointed BIGTIME. :-(Before I say anything; I have only been there once and this COULD have been a one-timer, but even though it is still not okay, in my opinion. We arrived at Antipodes which was full outside, so we found a table inside instead which was perfect, since I think it would have been a little too hot outside. When we arrived, we ordered two sandwiches, two softdrinks and a coffee — it took 15 – 20 minutes before we got our drinks and the waitress excused it with ”it’s so hot outside, normal people can’t work or think in this weather”. I was a bit annoyed, but as I have been a waitress for years myself, I was completely fine with this, smiled and told her ”no worries”. The coffee was amazing, so I quickly forgot about the long waiting time and flipped through another magazine. Two sandwiches shouldn’t take too long to make, so we thought that we would get our food maybe 10 minutes after the drinks: However, this was not the case. after a little over 1 hour of waitingtime in total, my boyfriend asked the waitress if they had forgotten about us. She replied that no they hadn’t and with a little patience our food would be right up — and again, that the hot weather caused the chefs to work slow. This seems a little off to me, I must admit — why not invest in a climate control thingy, if it’s so hard for the chefs to work?! I was extremely hungry, but I tried to stay positive anyways. After a little more than 1 ½ hours of waitingtime, our food arrived. WONDERFUL! It looked good at first, but then I discovered that they had brought us the wrong sandwiches… :-(We got a hold of the waitress as quick as possible and told her about the issue. She seemed really annoyed and told me, that if I really wanted another sandwich, I would have to wait for the right sandwich then. Really, it cannot take that long to make a sandwich! We were really annoyed and angry at the same time, so we told her that we wouldn’t pay for the food but that we would gladly pay for the coffee and two softdrinks. I mean, after 1 ½ hours of waiting we get the wrong food?! come on! I just wanted to get out of there as quick as I could. She started cursing in german, printed the bill and smashed it down on the table in front of us with the message ”HERE”. We paid and left pretty quick. I really see potential in this place as they have a great menu — but the staff need to learn a thing or two, in my opinion. The 1 star is for the brilliant coffee though.

Willkommen in meinem Lieblingscafé.

I was here for lunch today, as I think I’ve forgotten my head this morning and was so disorganized; hence I forgot to bring lunch and had to eat out. I tried this place, because I haven’t been to this part of town before, and I wanted to try something new. I arrived around 1:30PM. Two ladies were behind the counter. One said«Hallo!» and the other said«Hello!» When I responded with«Hello» they asked me in English whether I was hungry. When I answered in the affirmative, they offered me their special for the day as well as their regular sandwiches. I opted for the special(I originally wanted the lamb, advertised in their Facebook page, but already out of stock by the time I got there), which was chili con carne with herbed rice. I also tried their honey orange ginger tea, which was very potent and to my liking. The ambience of the place is great: there are plenty of mis-matched chairs that give character to the place. It’s like the interior was made by a carpenter who wanted to be an artist instead. And the service, that was impeccable. They give you water, for free, without being asked, which is quite rare here in Berlin, a city that always makes you pay for water. I heard that they have wi-fi, but when I was there, I didn’t use it. And given their opening hours, it seems they’re more a swanky lunch café populated by expats than a coffee shop where one can park one’s butt and work. That being said, many people seem to like the coffee, but since I would rather drink tea than coffee, I haven’t tried that route. Most of the times, I’d rather hang out with the locals than be completely enveloped in the expat bubble, but this one is a little gem in the city that makes me want to break that rule and have an exception every now and then.

Als ich fragte ob das zu viel Aufwand sei sagte die Kaffeemacherin«you wanted a Latte, you got a Latte that’s it.
